"actually you're the antisemite for thinking the hook-nosed banker goblins are Jewish caricatures" 🤝 "actually you're the antisemite for thinking my criticism of Israel is about Jews"
my synagogue was set on fire last night during Shabbat at 3:00 AM in an arsonist attack.
no one was injured, which i am extremely grateful for. they have several security cameras, so there is a suspect in custody. the details and motivation haven't been shared, but it can be reasonably assumed to be a hate crime.
this was the first synagogue established in the state, the only one that's not hours away, and certainly the largest in the area. two Torah scrolls are destroyed beyond repair, 5 are damaged. the library where children have religious school and morning Shabbat service is held has been completely burnt down, much of that section of the building that's left is covered in soot and ash. the administrative offices were also lost.
our Tree of Life, which was for important life events like bar/bat/b'nei mitzvahs, was destroyed. i was just looking at it this past Tuesday while waiting for a meeting with my rabbi. it was dozens of bronze plaques in the shape of leaves with commemorations on them placed above a trunk. there is a photo of the wreckage that makes me cry every time i look at it.
we have a rescued scroll from Nazi-era Czechoslovakia (it is thankfully unharmed). we have a Holocaust memorial garden. we have names of dead loved ones displayed. memories in and on the walls. there are so many deeply meaningful and largely irreplaceable things here.
my rabbi was out of state for the last several days. i cannot imagine how he's feeling.
im fucking pissed at the police department. they said that they would patrol the grounds more often in light of the worldwide rise in antisemitism. I have not personally seen them once. they let the only area for our community to gather be set on fire.
i am exhausted. i am angry. i am thankful it is not any worse, because it easily could have been, but tonight i am grieving that little library full of vintage Jewish books.
The same Synogogue was also bombed in 1967. This is the best article I could find so far this soon after the fire.
yes, this is my synagogue. Beth Israel Congregation was firebombed by the KKK in 1967 along with the rabbi's house because he was an outspoken supporter of civil rights for Black Americans.
here are some photos of the aftermath of the most recent fire:
I have been asked about fundraising, so I will be providing a link to donations.
Please help us rebuild if you can.
Something about firebombing a synagogue in 2025 that was firebombed in 1967 for speaking out in support of civil rights and against white supremacy and racism...

Activists protested outside a synagogue, chanting, "Say it loud, say it clear, we support Hamas here."
Whatever the amnesia surrounding 10/7, the truth must never be forgotten: Hamas murdered, maimed, mutilated, raped, and tortured thousands of innocent Israelis. It is-and has always been a barbaric oppressor of its own people.
Support for Hamas is not an expression of empathy for Palestinians; it is an expression of antipathy toward Jews and Israelis. Hate has no place in NYC.
I need someone to explain to me VERY carefully how Israel banning Doctors without Borders from Gaza is a good thing. How this doesn't make us look like monsters.
Doctors Without Borders sadly actively promotes Jew-hating libel and collaborates with Hamas.
https://www.jewishpress.com/news/jewish-news/antisemitism-news/anti-israel-ngos/major-french-magazine-accuses-doctors-without-borders-of-collaborating-with-hamas/2024/11/05/
This article is from ten years ago, and it's gotten worse since then: https://forward.com/community/344495/why-doctors-without-borders-has-an-israel-problem/
And multiple freed hostages have given testimony that they witnessed MSF personnel see them and ignored them.
So when MSF refuses to vet or manage their personnel to be in some kind of compliance with fairly understandable security requirements, yeah, Israel is justified in banning them... but, of course, people who don't have all of this context and more just see "The Evil (((Zionists))) are banning Doctors Without Borders!"
Add in the documentation from NGO Monitor about Hamas using "guarantors" in NGOs in order for them to function in Gaza and you understand how and why MSF/DWB functions as it does. They must adhere to Hamas's protocols and put Hamas approved persons, members or affiliates, into positions of power. This would be understandable for any government giving approval to a NGO to function within its boundaries: adhere to our laws, SOPs, regulations, and protocols or don't function at all. The issue is that MSF/DWB's adherence to Hamas's protocols breaks their ethics, morals, and oaths they swore to. They have openly denied claims that Hamas operatives were operating from hospitals their volunteers were in while testimony and footage proves otherwise. They have lied repeatedly at the cost of human lives to help support Hamas. Not Gazans, not the Palestinian people, and certainly not Jews (neither now or in their past). We also know that several of their personnel whom have talked to the public as members of MSF/DWB and portrayed themselves as "independent volunteer doctors" actually have a long and sordid history with Hamas AND the Muslim Brotherhood (e.g. Ghassan Abu-Sittah's family helped organize the Arab Revolts with the MB and have been members/associates since the 1930s).
people really need to move on from the “NGOs are all ontologically morally pure and good” mentality.
I haven’t consistently checked in on anything happening on the cesspool formerly known as twitter in many weeks (Nov/Dec were really hard and overwhelming for irl reasons, so I tapped out of keeping up with all the awfulness going on, and probably would have even more so had it not been for Bondi).
anyway, you might be familiar with Rachel Moiselle, I’ve shared her writing and posts often as she’s been updating about the terrible antisemitism occurring in Ireland. I don’t know that I would qualify Ireland’s obvious Jew hatred epidemic as “worse” than any other of the nations in Europe also exhibiting this, but each country is a bit unique in the ways it manifests. Irish Twitter becomes enraged when anyone addresses what’s happening there, but apparently it’s escalated to a new extent.
Rachel wrote a piece about the Bondi massacre and the response there, and the harassment and threats became so intense that she’s, at least momentarily, had to leave social media for her own safety.
this is a significant example of how voices either within or allied to the Jewish community are harassed and intimidated into silence persistently and cruelly.
she is pro-peace, pro-humanity, critical of both the Israeli government and Hamas, but none of this is good enough to protect her when she dares to speak up for Jews.
everyone defending her is being met with antisemitism and denial that it’s even happening in their comments too.
here is Rachel’s article. please read it.
"I want to expand a bit on this statement, because it exposes a very revealing aspect of the pro-Palestinian antisemitism of the new left. From their perspective, the Jew is supposed to remain passive and quietly await his fate — and in that sense, Eurovision is only one example among many. The other side is allowed to shake the world with massive campaigns to isolate and boycott Israel. But the moment Herzog dares to establish a task force in the President’s residence? Suddenly it becomes “scheming Jews manipulating things behind the scenes.”
Pro-Palestinians are allowed to use not only public campaigns but every heavy-handed tactic in the book to call for boycotts (for example, of Eden Golan or Yuval Raphael) and to harass them personally. Yet the moment Israel encourages its citizens abroad to vote for them — ah, now that is “unfair interference in the competition.”
Far from Eurovision, I have seen the same pattern among academic researchers within the rights-based activist ecosystem. The opposing side poured out, at a dizzying pace, piles upon piles of so-called “testimonies,” claims, and pro-Palestinian propaganda with little to no real supporting evidence — and in most cases without even seeming to think that peer review was necessary. Some of the studies they showcased were, in fact, rejected through peer review. Yet all these reports were cited enthusiastically by pro-Palestinian scholars.
But when my colleagues and I published a detailed 300-page study of the Gaza war, including forensic analysis, statistical methods, and cross-verification of sources — suddenly the response was: “You haven’t undergone peer review; you published through a ‘conservative’ research institute; and anyway, you’re Israelis — so let’s just ignore it.” In other words, the pro-Palestinian side views its own behavior as completely normal — transparent, neutral, the work of “objective scholars.” But the moment Jews, Israelis, or their supporters dare to step onto the field, it becomes “propaganda,” or “you’re manipulating the vote behind the scenes,” or “where is your peer review”.
They should be exposed for what they are."
Screenshots included in the tweet/post has the headline: "Spain accuses: 'It wasn't a democratic discussion about Eurovision, Israel manipulated everything in advance'"
I’m so tired of arguing with my mom that no, the issue with antisemitism and the anti-Israel hysteria right now is not primarily a simple “messaging issue”
The mental health and homelessness crises are so bad rn that people are literally being stuck and killed by the trains multiple times a day at this point and this man's first action as mayor on day one, like literally priority number fucking one, is repealing the legal definition of antisemitism.
This post just sums everything up to me. “Hey Jews. I heard this statistic. But I’m sure it’s fake. So if you want me to believe you, you better tell me all the horrible things that have happened to you recently.”
I really wish that when I read a post about how we can't dehumanize *anyone*, there is nuance in *every* situation, we have to hold and understand different viewpoints and respect the rights of every group involved or we won't achieve a just outcome, that my instinct wasn't to go "okay let's see if you've carved out a big fat (((exception))) to that, OP".
I also really wish my instincts were WRONG more often.
It reminds me of this image I saved from twitter a couple years ago (and unfortunately I didn't save the source, sorry):
Before you start arguing with an antisemite online, remember the acronym: S.A.R.T.E.
Someone has already told them what you're telling them.
Acting in good faith isn't what antisemites do.
Re-living your own trauma just encourages them.
They know what the fuck they're doing.
Entertainment is their goal.
Sarte has already released you from the obligation of pretending these people have any real takes..
I’ve been piecing together my family tree lately and while I knew that my family was likely badly affected by the Holocaust it is an entirely different experience to see that almost all of the branches of my family except for my direct line were completely wiped out.
On my dad’s side, both my great grandparents were the youngest of 8 children. All 14 of their collective siblings were killed in the Holocaust. And these siblings were adults, they each had their own sets of children, all of whom were murdered, too (as far as my family knows). Not to mention that the last letter my great grandmother ever received from her mother in Poland was her mother telling her that she was being put on a train but didn’t know where it was going.
On my mom’s side, one of my great great grandmothers came from Kovno in the early 1900s, leaving the rest of her family behind. And while we don’t know much about that family, this is the history of Kovno during World War 2:
My mom’s other great grandmother was one of 7 siblings; her and her sister came over to the U.S. from a shetl outside modern-day Vilnius. I’m sure you can guess what happened to her parents and the other remaining 5 of her siblings (and most of their children, except for one, who ended up in—you guessed it—Israel afterwards).
Anyway, idk why I’m writing this post up. I’m just heartbroken and angry because nothing has really changed. Antisemitism has been allowed to fester to the point where the mainstream “moral” opinion is literal Nazi propaganda. People are celebrating killing the Jews who survived the Holocaust, and stealing and appropriating our trauma to lie that we deserve it. It’s unforgivable. It’s evil. And it’s everywhere.
After a terrorist attack against jews in Australia, the world has wasted no time in continuing to be antisemitic.
Turtle Island Liberation Front, the group accused of planning bombing attacks on New Year’s Eve, has an Instagram account that’s functionally identical to every other Instagram account I’ve shared on here:
Fanart… women in crop tops and keffiyehs with red triangles…
candle sales for Palestine… collabs with CodePink and a local LGBTQ+ for Palestine Group…
…and then also pipe bombs:
* I would like to note that despite the name of the group, their primary political stance is antizionism. To my knowledge there are no indigenous American members of this group involved in any sort of criminal activity (or at all, for that matter).

One of their last posts is calling for participation in what would turn out to a violent protest of a Korean-Jewish solidarity event about dealing with hate crime in the Koreatown synagogue in LA.
Apparently synagogues are Elbit headquarters now.
The post referenced:
(To clarify, the temple was hosting a talk on AI driven public security measures to advance the safety of Koreatown that included two members of Elbit. No plans were in place to install anything anywhere; this talk was aimed at private citizens.)
The resulting incident:
A video-
I am done pretending there is anything redeemable about the antizionist movement. There is not. It is a Nazi movement. Its members believe the same things about Jews as the Nazis did, want to kill Jews just as the Nazis did, and dress up their ideology to sound academic and morally justified, just like the Nazis did.
It’s time to stop burying our heads in the sand. Never means never again. Start treating these people the way we treated the fucking Nazis.
