OH SHIT EVEN BETTER

Mr. Brosio is one of my favorite modern painters :)

My first thought was this book that I thought I read in 4th grade but thought surly I must have hallucinated, but it was a real book.

*Not what kind of bender you want to be, but the type you would be. Metrics for deciding this are up to you.

For a moment there I really thought this was going to be about if you were a robot in Futurama who bends steel stock all day. In my defense I’m currently waking up from a nap.

But I’d probably bend the stuff they make public transit shelters out of. Lord knows I’ve spent enough time in them.

How did you not include "girders"?

It's based on the application of the metal being bent. Bender bent girders, yes, but specifically for suicide booths.

We could add another poll about the type of metal stock being bent, if that would appease you.

Apparently ICE now has agents posing as utility workers to get into people's homes. The electric and gas companies have posted information on how to tell if it's one of their workers, and numbers to call to confirm whether they've sent someone to do utility work on your house.

Stay safe, friends.

How do you make zine friends?

Read zines, contact them in letters or emails, trade zines, go to zine events, join zine discords or other places online to talk. It grows from there.

You forgot "be the zine friend until your non-zine friends get inspired to start making zines".

This is a viable option too! It's the most DIY of avenues!

for the purposes of this question "alone" means you had exclusive access to a shower, toilet, cooktop, fridge, and bed (or whatever you sleep on) with some physical barrier between you and any other occupants of the building. living with a partner is not alone. use your judgement on edge cases- i don't want to hear "well my roommate moved out and my new roommate didn't move in for a week" as a yes

Now I really want to see your 90s punk playlist

Okay, well I made one with some stuff I could find on Spotify. A lot of what we played at our DJ thing was on vinyl and it can't find on Spotify.

I spent the early 90s going to local shows in Salt Lake City. There was a lot of hardcore and straight edge then and I wasn't really into it, but my friends were and I liked going to shows. Didn't put any of that on this list. I was also into SoCal punk and skate punk in the early 90s like Bad Religion, Descendants, and early Pennywise, Face to Face, and Offspring, even saw Blink-182 before they added the 182, but I didn't add any of those bands either.

By the mid-90s I was deep in the Lookout Records catalog from Operation Ivy to Fifteen. I added a lot of that stuff but kept out some I was really into at the time but have mixed feelings about now like Screeching Weasel and The Queers.

By the late 90s I was leaning into a lot stuff that was melodic hardcore and kinda 90s emo like Braid, Jawbreaker, the Promise Ring, Lifetime, Jets to Brazil, but didn't put too much of that on this mix.

So, here's a mix of the kind of 90s punk I was and still into. Some of it is glorious lo-fi shit that sounds like the wheels are about to fall off.

I spent the 00s as one of those annoying bike punks where my bike was an extension of my personality and also all the earnest Plan-it-X records nonsense that came with it.

I should make another mix of things I'm into now, Spotify keeps calling it "bubble grunge" which feels embarrassing somehow and just seems to be a stupid name for melodic punk without cis-dudes singing.

Anyway, here's a mix I made:

Oh hey, before I got into punk and on the late 80s and early 90s I was listening to KJQ full of goth, new wave, and college indie radio music I was listening stuff like this mix Ian B and I made.

I'm DJing tonight as half of of Team You Plus No One at Mad Hanna's and also on the 22nd.

then on Valentine's Day Paul and I are DJing as openers for Kepi Ghoulie! we'll be playing some combination of those two play lists as a sort of public Full Moon Night!

Come hang out!

What is the origin of your blog name?

Alex Wrekk has been my name since 1997 when I was looking for an androgynous pen name for my zine, Brainscan. My side blog is @upthewitchypunx which was taken from the graffiti a friend left on the wall of our guest cave (guest room in the basement with no windows) many years ago when I was a wee witchling.

What's your "I will always order this" food?

vegan rancheros, socca, any vegan thing wrapped in puff pastry, a new craft beer I haven't tried.

What's your overused emoji?

That blue square that just says "COOL" I also modified it with the the regular "cool" emoji so it has glasses. it is just a blue square that says "COOL" and has sunglasses. It cracks me up.

🆒

What's your current comfort show/movie/book?

Time Team Classic

Song you've had on repeat this week?

Ice Cream and Sunscreen by Martha

What's the last thing on which you hyperfixated?

Cutty Bangs (the San Francisco based liquor store concept of putting mini bottles of liquor in a bag with a can of a mixer and selling them as a ready to make drink with a wild name. The bottles are still full, you don't empty them into the bag. You empty them into a cup with ice)

What smell instantly makes you happy?

The "Oregon" smell that I remember as a child that was always one the side of my grandparents' house. I smelled it ever summer and it still sneaks up on me reminding me why I moved here. It smells like damp forest and sunbaked barkdust all at once.

What's something you loved as a kid that you secretly love now?

secretly? Why would I tell you that?

What's your phone wallpaper right now?

The castle from the Windows solitaire game, you know the one I mean.

What's an oddly specific thing that brings you joy?

I am so easily distracted by plants and animals when I leave my house. In my house, I'm charmed everyday when my partner brings me coffee in bed and when my cats finish their breakfast and both curl up and sleep on me for a bit.

Are you a morning person, night owl, or something else entirely?

I'm a mid morning to early afternoon person. I wake up early, but don't get out of bed until 9 usually. My brain shuts down from work mode after 3. I can't do late night anymore, i like to sleep.

Lastly, if you work, what is your work profession? And do you like it?

I make custom buttons and sell books and zines, basically two businesses in one. It's pretty much all I've ever done in my adult life and it has allowed me to live a life that makes me happy and I can meet new people and travel and wake up when I want.

tag yourself and blame me.

Accountability Partner - Seriously.

Hey folks, I'm looking for an accountability partner that has nothing to do with new years resolutions or anything. I need to do work to further my career and it requires daily practice and I'm having a hard time doing it on my own.

I prefer the idea of someone else being in a relatively similar boat who wants to be able to do check-ins, maybe weekly or something, on how we're doing on our goal.

Lemme know!

Reblogging for the morning crowd.

Perhaps you can join @alexwrekk and I when we start the Time Knife Society sometime soon. I think we were going to zoom-meet on Thursday evenings?

Yes! We need to chat and get things sorted for the Time Knife club in the new year!

I think the purest form of love is just wanting someone to notice life with you. "taste this. look at that. hear this song." again and again. until you can't imagine noticing life without them.

white people please just purchase native artwork and jewelry from native people i keep seeing idiot white people be like “waaah i wish i could support native creators but its cultural appropriation” girl why would beaders sell you their earrings then. just dont get a medicine wheel or a thunderbird then like damn it is that easy

If Native folks are making it to sell to white people with the approval of their tribe, it’s not “appropriation”–its support and appreciation! So yes, buy that native-made dream catcher, but not the mass produced fakes made by white people. Like, you can go to a pow wow and buy native crafts there, too.
