I’ve started a new story, The motion of the ocean (M). This one is hopefully a little on the lighter side (although still with the yearning and a bit of angst).
Jack and Robby attend a cruise ship conference as presenters, at Gloria’s insistence. What might seem like a welcome week of fun in the sun to some folks is a potential nightmare to Robby, who suffers from debilitating nighttime motion sickness. Robby meets a handsome stranger who offers to help, and may also be instrumental in getting Robby to admit a pretty big secret he’s been harboring about how he really feels about his best friend.
(Note 1: this is not a Doctor Odyssey crossover but there may be a face that looks and sounds a little bit familiar to any fans.)
(Note 2: cruise ship photo is for illustration purposes only. This story doesn’t take place on any specific cruise line or make any claims about one and I don’t own that photo I just think it’s pretty!)
Having a nice day skiing and now I want to write Robby takes Jack skiing fluff (for some reason it is obvious to me that Robby, not Jack, would be the experienced skier). The question is, do I break with my HC and have Robby grow up upper middle class? Or is it something Janey gets him into, at first begrudgingly, but eventually with enthusiasm?
Went into this season sure Al-Hashimi *wasn’t* Robby’s 7-week itch person, finished the episode less sure, but still holding out hope she’s not. Meta Golding is supposed to show up as a nurse and she’s lovely and (I think?) age-appropriate so maybe it’s her. Just not digging the potential “we’re having sex but I clearly don’t respect you” vibe.
2025 writer's wrap-up
Not tagged, but saw @atlasblue85 post it and thought it might be fun
1. How many fics did you write this year?
14, published.
2. How many words did you write this year?
278,876, again, published. I have a lot of WIP words but who’s to say which of those will see the light of day?
3. Did you try anything new this year? (New fandom? New pairing? New language?)
This was all new! I had not written fanfic in years until rabbot stole my heart.
4. Did you participate in any fests/events during the year?
Nope. Maybe in 2026.
5. Which is the funniest fic you have written this year?
I don’t know, maybe Graffiti, which has the characters themselves taking things a lot less seriously than in most of my other stories.
6. Which is the angstiest fic you have written this year?
This is a tough one—overall I’d say Promise Land but for no happy ending angst, Greys/Repair (do hope to write a part 3, maybe even this year!)
7. Which is the steamiest fic you have written this year?
I really don’t know, most of my stories go in a smutty direction so it probably depends on what you’re after. I think maybe recency bias is at play here but I think the car sex in Well I told you from the start just how this would end is pretty engine revving.
8. Which is your most valuable writing lesson learned this year?
Having multiple things to work on. I get in my head and if I feel like one thing isn’t working/is the worst thing ever written I often just need a break—but if I don’t have something else to noodle on I won’t really take one and the issue will just compound.
9. What do you look forward to writing next year?
I look forward to having a few more scenes of Jack Abbot for inspiration!
I won’t tag since I’m not sure who would want to do this but if you see it and would like to, please tag me so I can read yours!
New fic, Esprit de Corps, in my brothers in arms, Jack and Robby help each other de-stress, series. This one features Robby in the helping role for a change. NSFW!
Any Jewish rabbot fans reading this, what do you think about the word “schnoz” used affectionately by Jack towards Robby? Is it inherently offensive and to be avoided or can it be cute banter between the two of them?
ETA: Thank you for the responses. I ended up using this in my new fic Esprit de Corps. I couldn’t really set it up ahead of time, it’s pretty spontaneous, but Robby addresses it and I think it’s clear that it is said and taken in the spirit of love and sexiness. I hope, anyway!
I guess I am clearing the decks a little as we come up on the end of the year, because I posted another, smut with feelings. Technically a sequel to another fic but could be read standalone. Mission Impossible, wherein Jack and Robby negotiate some stress relief.
This didn’t quite land where I hoped it would, but I wanted to post this chapter before the end of the year and there’s a point in rewriting where you hit diminishing returns. So, new chapter of Well I told you from the start just how this would end is up! This one has sick Robby/caring Jack which is just a sweet dynamic, but other stuff too. Enjoy!
Apparently I hit the audio limit on my music refs post for Well I told you from the start just how this would end, so just starting a part 2 here.
Want badly to post the next chapter of Well I told you from the start just how this would end especially before Christmas runs me over but it is missing something, some emotion, some conversation, some thought process, and it is driving me crazy that I haven’t figured out what it is yet. Maybe it will show up wrapped under the tree.
