Just an autistic bumbling through life

One of the cool things about making your own aac board from the ground up is knowing exactly where everything is.

It's not even in a mostly functional state yet but boy do I love startling people with how fast I can click through the categories.

The way the app is set up definitely helps too, its legitimately so customisable.

I'm gonna read the paper (not just the article) but I don't like this very much. Probably because it's likely gonna become just another way to stereotype us and ignore our needs.

I turned off the words on my aac tiles and honestly it's so much better.

Idk if it's faster but it is better.

Got it set up so my keyboard can chill out in the empty space (so it doesn't mess with my board acess).

Feel free to ask me about it I'm bored :)

I reset on my phone (my board is on my tablet) so it should look as accurate to yours as possible.

For any autistics or others who are struggling to eat enough fiber/nutrients due to sensory issues around texture here's some tips:

Blend it into a sauce. Make sure its smooth and that there are no bits! (Good for vegtables)

Blend it into a smoothie. Again, make sure its smooth! (Good for fruit)

Try various preparation methods for foods you dislike. They will produce different textures!

Add red lentils to sauces if you're lacking fiber. They have a lot of it! (Make sure you check how to prepare them properly)

There are also wholewheat pastas/rice/cereals that will add a bit more fiber too. It adds up over time!

And remember, do what you can and it's ok if you can't! I'm only able to make these changes because my gf cooks for us both and is more than happy to do these. On my own I'm not able to do much to add more to my diet.

And remember, forcing yourself to eat something that is causing phycological harm won't make you like it further down the road, especially if you try to eat it frequently. I still can't eat eggs where the yolk and white are separated because I was forced to eat hard boiled eggs every day as a kid and it was akin to torture. It stopped years ago. Be kind to yourself!

Listen to grandma! :)

okay- i know that asl isn’t aac, and its its own language, but i dont know the language in a way like if i was going to become bilingual or something. idk. i USE it as aac. it augments verbal communication the same way text to speech does, and cboard, weavechat, gestures, drawing, writing, behavior and communication cards do. like for me it’s used as AAC. not a language in itself. i WISH it was the only language i used becuase then i wouldn’t ever be expected to speak, but not enough of my family knows asl, and i don’t know enough of it anyway. iddkkkk. i hope this isn’t like offensive to the Deaf community or anything im just curious why signing cant be listed as aac. because when someone asks me to list the forms of aac i use, i think it would feel like im leaving something out if i ddidnt say asl also. IDKKK.

Individual signs can be used aac, if i remember correctly, however asl (and sign languages in general) are full languages. It's like using a few French or Italian words when you can't fully speak English, even if you can't fully speak French it's still aiding in your communication. I would say putting 'signs' as an aac instead of asl, even if those signs are native to asl. Like you would say 'I use some French words' instead of saying 'I speak French'.

I use some signs too, when I can't speak. They're very helpful.

changed aac bg again ! drew myself rainbow and stars . . . aac sticker is by @/pileofpawns !!

edit: icon for her to match icons on our other blogs :)

You inspired me to make my own :)

I'm having issues with my balance/motor skills and you would think it's a physical body issue because my body is not moving the way I want but the pattern of issues, instead of correlating with physical exertion, instead correlate with mental exertion.

I wake up ok, progress to not necessarily needing crutches but greatly preferring to use them by lunchtime, then around dinner it's either I use the crutches or I am incapable of talking due to the focus required for walking, and then at night there's literally no indication at all that I ever have had motor struggles. My hand eye co-ordination also takes a hit in the afternoon and evening before recovering to my normal at night.

This coincides with my mental energy throughout the day, and my issues become worse if I use up mental energy on like a meltdown, for example. They don't seem to care how much I excersise as long as the excersise in question is not too mentally demanding, though I need to do more testing on that.

I have never heard of this as a thing before, though I do have a theory as to what is happening. Anyway I'm using crutches on a near daily basis now.

Feel free to add anything you think might be helpful, I like learning new things and this is defo a puzzle to perplex over.
