I put about as much effort into this as the duffers put into s5. Which is to say, not much.
IM CRASHING TF OUT BRO
I used to listen to Scott street by phoebe bridges and think ‘hmm this would be a great song for an au where will and mike don’t get together and see each other again after years of not talking. Lucky that’ll never happen 🥰’
And then I forgot about it until it came on today and I was sitting on a plane trying not to cry. PLEASE everyone go listen to it now. (I think of it from Will’s POV after he returns from art school in another city and catches up with mike after not talking to him for ages)
like the bicycle bells in the background. ‘Anyway don’t be a stranger’. ‘Do you feel ashamed when you hear my name’. It’s perfect. Go listen now.
Finale so ass I’m seriously pondering trying to write fanfiction for the first time despite the fact that I barely ever write and hate the product whenever I do
the mistreatment of the women this season was appalling
el: after a life of being controlled by men, she is still with the boy who was controlling and didn’t understand her (and then she said that he was the ONLY person to ever understand her), planned to kill herself, which her father tried to prevent by telling her to picture her future kids, and then killed herself. Oh plus her last scene actually alive is with the boyfriend who was one of the controlling men in her life. Her whole arc centres around men. Oh also her one female friendship which was the beginning of her finding independence was completely erased.
max: her projected dream future is focussed solely on her relationship with Lucas.
kali: had no purpose beyond being a plot device. Was brought back just to tell el to kill herself and then die.
pregnant women: never addressed again. Treated only as vessels.
robin: conformed to traditional femininity in terms of appearance.
Vickie: no plot relevance beyond her relationship with Robin, erased from the epilogue
Karen: I don’t know if people will agree with me on this but it bothered me a bit that the only time she showed strength was when her kids were being threatened. I just feel like the duffers see women and motherhood as inseparable.
Literally never write anything again
(there’s heaps more so let me know what I missed)
tagging @urm0onagedaydream for the list of fucked up things about s5
