Then Garak is pregnant and he cant afford to be politically but hes too sentimental to take care of it so he just sort of tucks it away, telling himself itll go away, its his imagination, its not really happening, etc etc until hes IN LABOUR. Afterwards, its a potential scandal but he just doesnt care, doesnt have the energy to care. Hes not prepared. Hes not suited. Tain was right to exile him, hes so useless and pathetic and couldnt even do this right. Kelas is worried because hes still stubbornly refusing to Tell Bashir.... It goes on for weeks until kelas decides its time to take matters into his own hands.

meanwhile the pregnancy has been hell bc there really aren't any Human ob/gyns on the planet to work with Kelas, so Kelas has been flying blind and it's been incredibly stressful.

things that dont cost money: hiking, walking, birdwatching, identifying plants, drawing (you have a pen, reading (library), collecting rocks, dancing, singing.... etc wtc etc

if you cant find a hobby you can afford, thats a you problem. and if youre posting online, you have a device to do that, get some free games, trawl wikipedia, study something. stop picking fights online and do something else.

if you can write an essay about it on your phone you can write fanfic or poetry or something on your phone also and it will be much nicer for everyone involved, including you

One essential skill that a lot of people have forgotten: DO IT BADLY.

I think a lot of folks who think "I don't have the money to do that" are assuming that they need lessons, or to do their hobby well. They need good materials, new tools.

I'm not a good artist.

But I do just sit down and draw. I like landscapes. Then I paint over my truly mediocre sketch. I've never done one that looked all that much like the thing I was looking at, but they were pretty and I had fun.

You'll never see me post them, because they're not good! But it's a hobby, and it was free to start- I already had a pen and paper.

Anyways, write bad stories! Make bad art! Lose at games! Get lost on your walk! Identify the hawk wrong! Make bad musical instruments! Train your cat!

It can be discouraging, because so many people are such good artists, and I'm... really not. So I give up, and come back later. It's okay. I don't need to be perfect.

You don't have to post about it, nobody will know but you. And even if you rented a billboard saying "TWITCHY IS BAD AT LANDSCAPES," so what? It's a hobby. I'm allowed to be bad. So are you.

So go forth! Try something new, and suck at it!

This is how they're saved in my music app. "Beethoven's Symphony #7 The Sexy One" or "Brandenberg's Pleasant little violins" or "Mozart's Quiet piano" or "Ligeti's one with the broom sound"

(Unfortunately, there are a lot of "quiet piano" and "pleasant little violin" so "concerto number 27 in E minor" does eventually become useful.)
