Everina Maxwell. Wrote Ocean's Echo - 1st Nov from Tor. No it was not intentionally a discworld fic but I'll own what I've accidentally done. @everina-maxwell-updates for book related stuff. (Trans rights are human rights.)

Ocean's Echo is a queer space opera in which Tennal, a disaster socialite with mindreading powers, gets conscripted into the space military and ordered to soulbond with his fellow soldier Surit - an earnest and well-intentioned type who follows his own personal ethical compass with the single-minded devotion of a bull in a china shop.

It's what you would get if you took Lois McMaster Bujold's body of work and decided to make it revolve around queer soulbonding. It somehow made Publishers Weekly's Best Books of the Year list. It's in the same universe as Winter's Orbit, but you don't need to have read that - it stands completely alone.

If you like awful main characters who fall into disasters and proceed to make them everyone else's problem, love interests who have memorized the ENTIRE rule book, and a deep commitment to space mindreading powers on the author's part, then *waves hands*. And it has an incredible cover, which I had nothing to do with at all, so feel free to buy one just to rip it off and stick on your wall.

my corner store guy is a 50 year old man who's my best friend in the world and recently he was like "you're too pretty to be single I have some nephews you should meet. very handsome!" and I was like "a niece might be more up my alley" and he just got more excited and said "ah even better! I was overselling my nephews but my nieces are very beautiful"

I just wanted to ask if your next book is about lesbians 🥺 (it’s okay if not I’ll read it anyway but just wondering <3) -S

Can confirm VERY MUCH lesbians. However I wouldn't put it down as good lesbian rep because these two have the relationship instincts of a youtuber in a hurricane and nobody should take them as a good example of anything.

looking forward to a new book from you so much!!

thank you, I have been working on it for one million goddamn years and i love it to death and i want it out there so bad! let me reblog living weapon girlfriend memes on main!

okay i'm now sitting on the finalised cover and it's the most goddamn beautiful thing i've seen in my life. let me post it. come on.

my discord group chat is lovely and I really appreciate their habit of spoiler-tagging any relevant plot points of books they find interesting in case the rest of us want to read it.

however i did wake up to an extensively spoiler-tagged discussion of the untranslated Code of Hammurabi and guys i think this has gone too far.

underneath it all I think that gideon and harrow are fairly vanilla in that what they want is to be lesbians together. However they don't know how to do that (never done it before) so they make up evil and elaborate games to trick each other into like, hugging. to them that feels way more risque and dangerous than any of the insane shit they have done to each other instead. Cam and pal on the other hand want to do something to each other unclassifiable by modern science and ethics

“There are such a lot of things that have no place in summer and autumn and spring. Everything that’s a little shy and a little rum. Some kind of night animals and people that don’t fit in with others and that nobody really believes in. They keep out of the way all year. And then when everything’s quiet and white and the nights are long and most people are asleep - then they appear.“

Tove Jansson: Moominland Midwinter.

Sometimes you can give your behaviour to an OC, and then years later, when you want to do the Behaviour, you can turn around and point to what you yourself did to the OC and say to your brain, 'look what happened to them when they did the Behaviour, do you want that to happen to us?'. and your brain will believe you. I don't know why.

i DON'T need them to kiss i need them to come to the sobering realisation that their souls are merged and no part of them is extricable from the other anymore
