So, if anyone has watched the Tobot Movie, there's this one scene where Hana is inside a container (??), and then his dad, who was like, brainwashed or smth??, picked up the thing and started crushing it. He even drops it after.
I just think that after all of that, Hana would've at least get claustrophobia. I mean, come on, who would've been ok after all of that? (I wouldn't be alright, but idk if it's just me)
I wish that they could've depicted that in HoD, but from what I remember, I don't think that there is a specific scene where he's trapped/is in a closed room alone. Maybe we can consider in s3 ep 14, where they have those VR sets. I guess that claustrophobic people would fear using VR. The thing is, Hana is the one to suggest using them, so, uh.. yeah.
Still, I think that it would've been better if they added that, since it would've connected the movie w/ the new series. Maybe Hana, in this case, would've been against on using the VR, but that wouldn't really.. flow?? Bc the idea would've been the 3 of them to enter the M-World, but if Hana, hypothetically, had claustrophobia, that wouldn't be able to happen.
Plus, the setting of the Movie is different from the series. Like, an AU?? This is what I thought when I watched the movie, but there isn't any evidence that it is (well, from what I researched). I mean, while in the series, the trio meets Suho in Daedo city, in the movie, they meet in Jeju island (I don't remember if it's Jeju island, correct me if I'm wrong).
Why I'm writing this? Idk, I thought of this for a while now, and I actually wanted to share this, or it would've been in the void rn.
HEY GLUE, do you watch the English dub of HoD or do you just stick to the Korean/OG dub?
There's something that's been bothering me abt the English dub of s2-e4.
That one scene where everyone begs Zero to play with them and he only actually joins when Semo (politely, I think? It sounded polite) pleads with him? The English dub changed it to Semo challenging Zero by saying something along the lines of “Are you scared to lose?”
Like??? The English dub is really out to make sure all of the small, soft interactions are lost...
What do you think?
only the korean dub, because the english makes me cringe so hard it feels like my skeleton's trying to crawl out of my skin! plus, korean's my first language, so it's easier for me to appreciate the show fully when i watch the og dub.
"are you scared to lose" is terrible. in the korean dub, semo is actually saying "please, Zero" firmly. his tone's pretty authoritative, but it's also kinda pleading in a sweet way. not unlike a parent to their child.
the english dub is just emotionally constipated at this point
also it's so sweet how zero puts the sliced apples right in front of semo eeeeeeeeee
and then semo's like "hell yes apples"
(I wanted to add my opinion too, if you're ok w/ it)
(+, I want to make one thing clear: I don't hate the voice actors for the Eng dub, nor I intend to show that, I just think that they could've put more effort to it, or just stick to the script as similar as possible. Sorry if I look like I'm complaining or criticizing too much. I don't intend to do that)
(++, this may be long, so I included a summary. It's at the end. Also, I separated my "rambling" into parts to make it easier and more organised. Also, sorry if I repeat too much or there's any grammar mistakes. English is not my first language)
Brief intro
So, I actually tried watching Tobot in English after watching the Korean, but I kinda gave up bc I didn't like it (??). The Korean dub was way better with the whole voice acting (both cast and the whole how expressive they were (??)) and how it was the "official script" (idk).
I analyzed some seasons (.. 2 seasons), but not completely nor every single season.
Season 10
So, I didn't watch it entirely, just some parts that made me curious on how the Eng dub would do. I think that the main issue was that it's hard to script it into another language, because of how.. "Korean" it was (??).
E.g., the kids play 쿵쿵따, which is like a wordplay?? Idk how to explain, but that clip is always funny to me in the OG. BUT, in the English dub, instead, they play a game where they name animals and places in alphabetical order or smth?? Like, it's not even the same game or similar. Plus, they cut off a part of them playing, which I guess that it's bc it was just too difficult to script it.
Another thing is that they didn't stick to some "characteristics" that represented a character (?? idk how to say it)
E.g., Nguyen (Yujin's mom) is not Vietnamese in the Eng dub, which kinda throws me off.
Plus, they changed some of the script, to the point that it's not the same context as the OG.
E.g., instead of Duri mocking Yujin's mother (or smth), he complained about the service of the restaurant. They even included a scene that it was removed in the Korean dub, which consisted on Ilsoo saying how the twins (and I think Semo included) didn't have a mother or smth. The English dub kept it bc, again, they chained the whole script. So, it was from Ilsoo mentioning that at least he had a mother, to how the city people only knew how to play?? Like bro??, that has nothing to do w/ the original.
Season 18
So, I was curious how they managed w/ this season, especially with the whole singing, bc I think that it's the season where the VAs need to sing the most (also watched the scenes that I was curious the most, bc watching for 2 hours is way too much just to write my opinion)
And.. it sucks, tbh. They completely changed the script in this one. Like, it's to the point that it's like, 5% accurate. They even added things that completely mischaracterized some characters. Though, I'm only saying this to the scenes that I watched, but it's probable that the main context is the same, idk.
- There's a scene where they were "suggesting" what to do to "help" the village. It's the part where Semo agrees to help at the school, and mentions how he gets "way better grades" than Duri, so that's why he'll go w/ Hana to the school (or smth like that, idk). Meanwhile, Duri just, like, says how he has something in common w/ Suho (.. that they're bad at school). I like this scene bc it's so.. snarky and sassy?? Idk. BUT, in the Eng dub, Duri just.. complains?? how he doesn't want to be all day finger painting, and Semo suggests on teaching them how to play soccer too. Even Duri suggests at Suho that he could.. teach them how to run?? It's that, my opinion, it's way more boring bc it has nothing to do with the OG, and the sassiness isn't there.
- Talking abt soccer, apparently, Semo is in a soccer club in the Eng dub?? In the scene where Semo sings to the school to follow him, he says how he'll teach the song of his soccer club. Like.. huh???
Like I said before, I wanted to watch this particular season bc it's the season where singing is included the most
- They scratched out the scene where Nokwon sang the "reason why the village sings so good" (I don't remember what the name was, nor the name for that style of singing). It's probably bc it's difficult for them to sing it, since it consists on having a strong vocal control. (I think)
- What it's different is that.. their singing is not the best..? E.g., when Angela sings, it's not like the Eng dub sang bad, but the Korean is way more appealing to listen. I think that it's because Angela's Korean VA actually sings, idk. The same goes w/ Shumbo Tobot. When you listen the Eng dub, they didn't sing bad, but they didn't sing as good as the OG. Like, the effort is kinda there, but the OG is just more pleasant to listen to.
Additional
Another thing that I don't like the Eng dub is that it isn't divided like the OG. What I mean is, there are some episodes of a season mixed with another one, so it's harder to find a specific scene from a specific season (it took me way to long to find the part where they play 쿵쿵따).
Also, when I was watching the first ep of HoD in Youtube, it automatically changed to the Eng dub. I was genuinely confused, because my intention was to watch it in Korean, but I was curious too, so I watched it. The beginning wasn't that bad, but let me tell you, when I heard Hana and Duri calling for their Tobots, it was way too goofy for me that I switched it into the OG dub immediately.
(Now that I'm writing this, I'm just realizing that I'm throwing way too much shade to the Eng dub)
So.. Summary??
So, to summarize, the Eng dub could've done better. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't as good as the OG. It was not only disappointing bc most of the scenes that are funny turned out.. boring??, but it was kinda funny bc, while knowing the context, they would say something that has nothing to do with the original context, which would catch you off guard. The thing is, they would also mischaracterize, so it didn't stick w/ each character's personalities, etc. Again, I'm not hating on the Eng VA's, and this is just my opinion.
(At this point, idk why I dedicated so much time in this)
So.. uh.. yeah, this is my rambling of Tobot's Eng dub. Yippieee
friend maybe?.. @bab0o
EH?? EHHHH??

Y'know, I've been thinking a lot about what would've happened had Ogong decided to stop the virus even seconds later during the overpass scene in s04.
After all, he didn't know that was happening, that they were in actual danger, right?
I mean, obv the show would end since the Tritan trio would die (I don't think you can survive a car falling from that height).
But I wonder how Ogong would've reacted when he heard the news. How confused the people would be when the tobots stopped showing up to save them.
What do you think?
So, I had to rewatch the scene to see how severe it was, and I think that it's clear, that if Ogong stopped the virus like, 3 seconds later, Duri would've been dead, bc the time he stopped it, Y was like, in the verge of falling off.
I think that if the Tritan trio did die, and Ondal found out, he wouldn't do the surgery. Like, I mean, the pilots are dead, so no more tobots, right? And since Ondal is a huge fan of them, his condition would get worse, which would make Ogong not just increase his worry about his brother's health, but also, he would have a huge guilt for actually killing 3 people unintentionally, and it's his fault that his brother wouldn't do the surgery.
If Ondal found out that it was his brother who caused all of this, idk, I actually don't know?? But what it's clear is that Ondal would hate Ogong, but idk to what extreme though??
And, when it comes to the people, idk, they would genuinely be confused because they wouldn't show up, when they normally would. Maybe they would start suspecting, and maybe, but just maye, Dingyo would post something in the fan cafe, how the pilots are dead, who they were, etc. But just maybe.

ANOTHER hc bcs I have a lot of thoughts
I think in the team, Semo would probably be the last one to understand dirty jokes because of a combination of
- Not being online too often
- Having restricted online access (Limo probably tries to shelter him)
- Not having that many friends that will explain it to him properly
So occasionally someone will mention a dirty meme and Semo would just say “I don't get it” and try to search it up while most of the others try to tell him it's unnecessary.
Whenever he does finally understand a dirty joke, it literally does not affect him. He just shrugs like “Cool. Kinda gross,” and moves on.
---
Who do you guys think would be the most chronically online on the tobot team based on vibes and stuff? I'm thinking Duri, probably Ogong, and Hansu (he was glued to his phone in HoD s1-p1)
Imagine like, Duri, Hansu and Ondal speaking in brainrot shi, while Ogong just stares and listens bewildered, since he knows what it is, Hana just got used to/fed up to his brother's nonsense, so he doesn't give a damn, and then there's Semo with a blank face.

The more I rewatch the OG series the more I think this franchise should've been for a slightly older audience.
With how dramatic/emotional the plot is at times, I think they would've benefited from a little more violence and injuries, maybe a couple swear words.
Also this would allow someone to punch Duri in the face in the early seasons. Love him but it would've been satisfying to see him get hit once or twice
Read this and immediately wanted to draw Duri get punched in the face (and Semo punching the hell out of him, while the rest of them are like.. there)
