i got a 100% on this bostonian-to-english quiz but i grew up near boston..... i'm curious what you guys get. there's a couple things in here i didn't even know are regionalisms + a couple things i hadn't heard before but could parse pretty easily from context. tag/reply with what you got and if you're familiar with the area or not!

GENUINELY before today i thought fluffernutter and american chop suey were part of National American Culture (TM). i was so puzzled by those questions that i googled both bc i was like "ohhh, this quiz maker thinks some american things aren't as widespread as they are..... they're assigning regional markers to things that aren't regional...... every american will instantly recognize these...."
and then i discovered both of these things are, in fact, particular to the new england region.

500 words written today. Last day of conference; I am mildly doubtful I'm going to get everything into my carryon but there's only one way to find out and it has to wait until morning since it's the last minute stuff that can't get packed until then. I am leaving very early since I have a 7 am flight; fingers crossed I do not have one of my classic travel delays and get into Sioux Falls on time. (Alaska Airlines did give me both a food voucher and a $50 voucher for the last one, which means I actually made money on it since I paid for the flight on miles.)

Pretending to be Father.” Loki raised his eyebrows. “Erik told me.” Thor stared at him. “Erik couldn’t have told you, it hadn’t happened yet when you were controlling his mind.” Loki rolled his eyes. “Erik told me four years ago, while you were dead and we were all at the Avengers Compound for a –” He hesitated, then said carefully, “– situation.” “And the Avengers wanted both of you?” Thor said, distracted from his original point. “Together?” “It was a somewhat sensitive situation at the time and there were not a great many options.” Loki’s mouth was tight. “Later it became an extremely sensitive situation.” “About…?” “It’s not mine to say.” Thor discovered abruptly that he didn’t enjoy learning that Loki had shared experiences with the Avengers that he wasn’t even willing to tell Thor about.

Something BTVS does that i think is really funny for a show that is ostensibly about vampires is that it establishes vampires as like. The baseline threat. Like she's not worried about vampires. Basically ever. Theyre just vampires! Theyre like the petty criminals to her spiderman. Almost all the interesting/ threatening villains are Something Else, they keep having to bring in new and weirder bullshit because they've created a world where vampires Are Not That Scary. And it is entirely because of Buffy that this is the case, thats why The Wish is so jarring and unsettling, because you're used to writing the vamps off as one note minor threats that'll get killed off in 5 minutes, because the Slayer is supposed to be there. Without Buffy around they have the power and potential to be genuinely scary but she's so used to dealing with them that it just never happens

So there's a ship I'm seeing fairly regularly on my dash that, like REALLY squicks me. It's a NOTP for sure. It makes me really uncomfortable. I'd prefer not to see content about it.
So I blocked the tag.
I did not a) send anyone anon hate, b) post in the tag about how much I dislike it, c) judge the people who DO like it, d) write diatribes about how the ship is toxic and problematic and immoral and the people who enjoy it are problematic and should be cancelled, e) even say what ship I'm talking about or what fandom it's in.
Notice that the onus is on ME to avoid something I'd rather not see. It is not for the people posting about it to change their habits or stop enjoying their thing (so far everyone's being good about tagging but I'm sure some will slip through, that's just life in the big city). My dislike of this ship is a ME thing, and my dislike does not translate to it being inherently bad, or that those who like it are bad, either. Not liking it is not a moral crusade on my part, it's just a personal preference and should be treated as such, and my responsibility to avoid it.
It's not like this shit is hard, y'all.
Avoidance is the worst reaction to stress. Oh this thing is giving me anxiety? And it's something I could prepare for by looking at it more or learning things about the topic? No, I will take psychological damage if I look at it directly. I will still be thinking about it and be stressed though.
