Because don’t we all secretly want the kids to think we’re cool?

Welcome! I'm Billie (she/her), and I'm a multi-fandom girl. You can find my greatest hits on tumblr below, and I’m also on AO3.

My ask box is open if you have any questions or just want to say hi! I'm always excited to discuss my fandoms and fandom history and culture more broadly.

Fic

My fics are tagged #billie writes fic and can be found on my AO3, which is archive-locked. I'm most proud of these fics:

Remus and Sirius: the end of the beginning. (Or, April is the cruelest month, in the shadow of October.)
The only time Ilya has seen perfect Shane Hollander lose control is when Ilya has him on his knees. When Ilya has him face down on a mattress. Just the two of them, alone. Now everyone’s seen Hollander fall to pieces, thanks to fucking Scott Hunter.

keep you like an oath [A League of Their Own (TV)]

By unspoken agreement, Jess and Lupe keep Vi’s a secret—even from those who would be welcome. Lupe probably has a number of complicated reasons for it, but Jess only has one: she’s selfish as hell.

Fic recs and meta below the cut.

A thought about Rose Landry: Heated Rivalry episode 4 tells us that Rose is a big sex symbol (all the boys cream themselves when they hear her name), but it doesn't show her that way to us - not at first. In a show full of hot people showing a lot of hot skin, Rose is covered up and casually dressed, downplaying her sex appeal and glamour.

I think that's because we see her through Shane's eyes, and what he sees is a charming, kind, disarming woman, who he's starstruck by in a schoolboy way, and feels giddy to get to hang out with... so much so that he kind of forgets he's supposed to also want to see her naked? He forgets that it's a part of dating, which is what they are meant to be doing.

He seems to get at least a few weeks to enjoy that, judging by the fact that they're photographed together on a few separate occasions, she starts showing up at his games, they become the press's favourite couple, and then we skip a couple of weeks to another home game. Only then do we see Rose Landry in a very hot clubbing dress, when she's dancing with Shane and finally seems intent on seducing him.

And it gets a little lost in the big heartwrenching drama of Shane running into Ilya at the club, but the thing is that even if Ilya weren't there, Shane would be feeling equally trapped. He was doing well so far, but he has no idea how he's going to pretend to be a good heterosexual boyfriend to this new Rose and her suddenly uncovered body.

Always embarrassing realizing you don't know basic facts about your friends. Like yeah hey, here's this person I love dearly, I've known them for 23 years, we've been through so much together. They're currently working in a lab.... developing... medicine? and also getting a PhD. I think. Don't ask me what subject.

I once met up with an online friend in person, and after the meeting my mother was asking all sorts of questions about their life (in a friendly way, not in a paranoid-about-this-stranger-my-child-met-on-the-internet way. I was at this point an adult with a a child of my own.)

Eventually, when I was able to satisfactorily answer almost none of them, my mother asked in exasperation, "What did you just spend two hours talking about?"

And I was like, "....books?"

making friends via fandom is inherently hilarious because in many ways it's like a regular friendship and sometimes you'll share stuff that's going on in your lives and offer support and talk about food or pets or random cultural stuff because you live on opposite sides of the damn planet, but also some of your interactions are like "hello beloved friend whom I cherish deeply, I have brought you a deceptively platonic gift of lovingly crafted star wars porn"

[Description: a TikTok video showing someone holding up a Macbook laptop with an incredulous look, with a caption reading "Alan Turing after I bring him to 2026". The person inspects the laptop, and as they do so they say "Oh my god. This is—this is incredible. Like, I just—I can't even comprehend what I'm looking at here. Like, I just never thought that like in a million years society would ever, ever be able to create something like this." They pause and look at the laptop screen, and say "And you said they're both hockey players?" /End description]

I’m paying to force seven thousand strangers to see a photo of my late husband having fun with his dog. Tumblr Blaze is totally worth it. XD

Thank-you to all of my new Internet stranger friends for being so gracious about having my post shoved onto your dashboards. I loved reading all of your kind tags and comments! Both Martin and Bosco have been gone for several years now but for 24 hours, they felt very present in my life. I greatly appreciate this gift. ❤️

Reblog to have your dashboard be visited by the spirit of joy that death can end but not erase.

Love that this is well beyond 7000 people now and still going

@leavescrown Exactly! It’s a beautiful gift. Martin and Bosco out there travelling around the Tumblr community, continually making new friends.

#hello again martin and bosco!! sending you boys round for another go :)

Reading your tag made me laugh out loud. It’s like two old friends unexpectedly stopped by your porch for a quick visit. XD

I’ll always reblog Martin and Bosco when they splash across my dash, because of Reasons.

What’s loved, lives.

There is something truly beautiful in seeing a comment like that from someone so very loved and recently lost.

Yes, Peter, you’re absolutely right. What’s loved, lives. You three boys all come back around again to see me again soon, okay?

Huge shout out to all the people who read fics. Who actually take the time out of their busy days to open a fic and read it

Before I started writing in earnest, I did not understand how much writing was going to eat into my fic reading time. We joke about having too many tabs open, but I have a different problem: the amount of tabs I have open on new fics is way smaller than it used to be. My ao3 wrapped would be a sad affair. Unless I’ve subscribed to an author or come across something on my dash, I basically don’t see it

Which has really driven home for me how much fandom cannot just be creators. You have to have people who want to read fic and meta discussions and joke posts. You have to have people who want to look at art and gifs. It has to be mutual.

Community thrives on flow. You have to have that movement of people sharing things with each other for a community to exist

Thank you fic readers. You keep things flowing

the ep2 emotional first time anal is really absolutely fucking insane. the way they’d both been thinking about this for months. the anticipation. the teasing. the full fucking hockey game that just occurred. ‘you meeeessed me’. the race up the stairs, always trying to one-up each other. shane letting ilya into his home and his asshole for the first time. extremely vulnerable but he’s so eager for it. the way ilya keeps checking in. the cum up to shane’s neck when they’re done. the way he lies back and smiles when no one’s looking. the way ilya melts at the praise when shane says that was so fucking hot. how softly shane kisses him. the way you can see in ilya’s eyes how he has to force himself to say i have to go. the way they linger on the stairs, his cab is definitely here, they don’t want to part. shane’s fluffy hair under his hoodie. the way ilya murmurs ‘good trick’. that kiss. they’re so lovestruck i-

God I love this and how the time passing makes it even hotter and more significant, and I keep coming back to this, from Jacob (around the 16" mark in his second What Chaos appearance, abridging slightly):

"That's part of what makes it believable, is allowing time to pass and allowing things to accumulate. Part of the reason I wanted this to be six hours of TV and not a movie is because if people think the first two episodes were rushed, imagine if that was 15 minutes of a movie. Because that's what it would've been. It would've been 15-20 minutes, something like that. So it would've all been cliche, it would've been all little dumb things that happen too fast.

But if you slow it down and you allow moments to become meaningful by time passing, it means more, because you've been thinking about it more. And you can feel it weighing on people more. You're watching someone go from 18 to 25. Like, those are big years. Those are big changes. You go from not knowing what matters to you, to understanding what does matter to you. I have always felt that the thing with Shane and Ilya -- with both of them -- is that the reason they figure out they're in love is because they just can't stop doing it. They can't stop seeing each other. They can't stop finding each other in a room. They just can't fucking stop. At a certain point, six years in, you're like, I'm texting this guy. I'm fucking still -- I can't stop doing this. That is when you go, like, I guess I have feelings. I guess! What else could possibly explain it? Other people have noticed I've been texting the same person, even if it's a fake name in my phone, for seven years. It becomes ludicrous to yourself to think that doesn't mean anything.

I think that's part of the evolution of Ilya. And then I think his father dying is the last straw, of really feeling like you have nobody, and then going, "Well, I do. I guess there's this guy I'm in love with. Ah, fuck. There's this guy I'm in love with. What else am I looking for here?""
