Writing this while I'm thinking about it:

The King's Secret Service is the topic of many stories and myths. No one truly knows who they are, leading to much talk of them being ghouls, demons, and other creatures bound to the royal family.

They do, exist, though. As evidenced by raiding parties brought down before villages even know they're in danger. By the decrees acknowledging their work bringing in criminals. Scariest of all, by their courting.

If a woman wakes up to a bouquet of blue roses, impossible to be grown by normal methods, she must prepare to be whisked away in the night. Her family will receive a payment worthy of a noble, regardless of their actual status.

People try to keep watch to see the selected woman taken away but everyone who tries reports their eyes closing for but a moment, a mere blink. And when their eyes open again, the woman and her belongings are gone, replaced by the promised bride price.

You're the middle child of a village farmer, not much is expected of you beyond what's expected of every woman in the village.

One day you take your younger siblings into the first to gather kindling and berries. You can't fight the feeling of being watched so you keep your siblings close. As you pick some berries you startle back as you catch a pair of otherworldly eyes looking at you from the bushes.

Calmly and carefully, so as not to start a panic, you gather your siblings and get them home. Once there you inform your father and brothers of what you saw. Because you're not given to flights of fancy, your concerns are given weight. But searching results in nothing being found.

Still, you shouldn't be so surprised to wake up with a bouquet of roses on your chest.

Having more thoughts about this, of course.

The King's Secret Service is not bound to the King's blood line. We're that the case, they might follow royal daughters married to other kingdoms for alliances. Rather, they are tied to the blood line of the King's Mage.

To aid in the secrecy, the King's Mage would teach only their eldest son the magic needed to aid and control the Secret Service. But as the kingdom has expanded, it has become necessary for two of the Mage's children to learn.

The Secret Service are immortal creatures so offspring are incredibly rare, maybe once a hundred years or so. They do not seek brides to bear their children, no. They seek comfort, warmth, or, sometimes, a toy to play with. They are only allowed one at a time, adding to the unpredictability of their courting.

Killing or torturing a bride is punishable within the King's Secret Service. Especially if one inflicts this on another's bride. While they are bound to the King's Mage, there is still an internal hierarchy, enforced by strength. And the leader of the creatures insists on brides being treated as treasures.

There isn't much argument on that front.

The idea of hierarchy within the Secret Service being divided per each type of creatures is brilliant!

I wonder, if they are bound to Mage's blood does it mean they have to listen to him? I mean it in a way of them being loyal versus them being obedient.

They do have to be obedient to the Mage but if they are unhappy, they can always find loopholes in their instructions or fight the Mage's hold. It's why the Mage learns to control and aid.

Sure, the creatures are bound to a mortal blood line, but there are wonderful benefits. Guaranteed food and shelter. Occasionally allowed to unleash metaphorical hell on mortals without repercussion. First pick of the loot from their endeavors. And, of course, the brides. Being a kept creature isn't so bad. Usually.

At the top of the hierarchy, I'm thinking of putting a celestial or two. They are bound to the Mage through both magic and honor. And it is that honor that pushes them to keep the others in line. I'm also considering them being given to the Mage's ancestor as a payment/thank you of sorts for helping the celestials in battle. At home, they were low-ranking. Here, in service to the Mage, they are top of the food chain, adding to their lack of interest in breaking the hold the Mage's blood line has over them.

On the off chance I do figure out how to write this, who would y'all like to see in it?

Shape shifter Ari, perhaps? Able to take the form of any man or beast and it's a skilled infiltrator. You caught his attention when he was working to get an escaped prisoner back. As someone who can change his physical appearance at will, he has a strong appreciation for people who are genuine.

He needs that in a partner because, as a shifter, he can forget himself at times. He needs help remembering.

Oh that's actually sad. He needs someone to ground him, to be himself with, because he is doing this so long he doesn't always know who he truly is. This sounds more then a burden🥺.

I imagine him living further away from everyone because of this train, he wants peace and time to be himself with the person he lives him for himself.

Maybe he even has trouble changing back if he keeps his shape too long?

Oh, maybe his brides are artists. He holds into their drawings, paintings, sculptures of him in his true form to help him.

And yes, too long in another shape can make the transition much more difficult.

Like, they claim to have this connection and feel butterflies when talking, head over heels and all. When they see each other for the first time they usually hold some facade of being still amazed. I'm only three episodes in but I didn't like at all how they so openly talked about who they dated and looks. Like several people went into the pods and we're like oh yeah I heard about you.

You and Ransom were sitting across from each other in your living room, the atmosphere tense.

"So, do you want to tell me why you talking to Sandra behind my back?" Ransom asks, arms crossed, jaw tight.

You furrow your eyebrows in confusion. "I was asking her to back off and leave you alone. Why does that upset you? And why didn't you tell me you were already talking to HR about it?" You cross your own arms, unsure of why Ransom is acting so upset.

"I didn't want you to worry about it and I thought you'd trust me to take care of things," he retorts. "But had you talked to me first, I would've told you that. So why did you talk to Sandra instead of me?"

His voice is louder than you're used to. He's genuinely upset about this. But should you confess you went to Sandra first because of your feelings for him?

I actually love the detail about Bubbles being pressed to admit her feelings and Ransom being more open about them. It wasn't a perfect communication, and he was a bit harsh, but it was communication nonetheless! ❤️

Now, Andy is a real gentleman. He'll sweep in to take you to his home and help you, even checks the ankle.
