i don't know how to properly articulate this but the way the only thing glinda has left of elphaba is her hat, as a forever reminder of the attempted mockery that 'backfired' and led to their bond after glinda stepped in, and it serves as a constant reminder to glinda as to what she could've done differently and of the choices and paths she didn't take... like WOW...
