the gulf between what gideon and harrow want from each other and what they're doing to each other is wide. There lies the compelling aspect of the ship. What if you really wanted to kiss a girl but you'd been brought up to hate her and then coerced into serving her and so instead of kissing her you commit suicide for her and then take her grief (which btw is so overpowering she has to lobotomize herself) as a rejection. they're falling in love the worst anyone's ever done it. They are so bad at this. And in a culture full of stories about women who are either hypercompetent or basically not people, that loser lesbianism is both inspiring and necessary

Sextus would come out as trans and Harrow would largely be respectful but say something privately about how confounding it is that someone of her caliber has time to waste thinking about gender at all and then two weeks later quietly start using they/them
