part of the obikin dynamic that fucks with me severely is that anakin commits to having his act together when obi-wan is looking. when obi-wan isn't looking, he's more inclined to make some of the riskiest and worst decisions of his life, but when obi-wan is with him, he's genuinely the best version of himself. there's so much that can be read into that for just anakin's side of it alone, never mind what it says about the two of them together. obi-wan is an influence that consistently brings out the best in him, but it's in an arguably subterfuge way. it's conveyed as genuine, a real part of anakin, just as the parts of him he tries to keep hidden and separate from obi-wan are (until they can't hide anymore). before vader, a significant bulk of the worst things anakin does just have a much less chance of reaching the heights they do if only obi-wan were around. obi-wan comprehends a fraction of the influence he has on anakin, if at all. anakin likely recognizes what obi-wan is to him more, but whether or not he ever actually looks at it fully in the face is up in the air, and personally i'm inclined to think that he doesn't. but that doesn't make the strength of whatever this is any weaker. anakin just doesn't have a thing like this with anyone but obi-wan; the closest next to obi-wan is yoda. anakin is so consistently worse without him. it's hitting so many buttons. it's so compelling.

Codywan anyone? Drew this as a request from a friend. I wanted to try and be more free/sloppy with my art style, and I really like the results.

Saw one of those posts where someone was like “Boba Fett was only 37 in Return of the Jedi?? He shoulda been at the clubbb” and like. I cannot stress enough how much he was at the club. He was chilling in the corner but he was AT the club. Max Rebo was there and everything

It's true that he was already at the club and that he basically lived at the club full time. But also I just want to say that 37 is kind of a wild age to be saying "they should have been at the club"

Like 37 is by no means old, but it's a pretty reasonable age to be thriving in your bounty hunting career and taking on Jedi.

I tend to think of "they should have been at the club" as a phrase for characters who are like... 18-24 and are being deprived of their youth by the obligations placed on them by fate. I think Boba Fett has spent over 20 years at the club at this point.

he was working 9-5 at the club

The Great Codini

They need to hurry. He cools down the… micro waver or however it is called, dries the mugs with a snap of his fingers. “Cody. Bedroom, now.” Obi-Wan shouldn’t enjoy this but life is short. “Bring the cats.”

Cody gestures at him, slack-jawed. “I’m— No.”

I don’t even like the TCW Rako Hardeen arc but I DO think that having Anakin try to kill “Rako Hardeen” who is actually Obi-Wan in disguise for the crime of killing Obi-Wan who then wrestles Anakin into submission hits him in the face a few times for the kink and then chokes him into unconsciousness while whispering in his ear “don’t follow me” was certainly a choice and it’s one that I respect

okay i love corrie whump but please consider this:

the corries arrive on coruscant. their training at kamino was, shall we say, maladjusted, and then they are treat like shit by the natborns. however, unlike the GAR and their jedi and the wider galaxy, the corries have… no other example of how natborn society works.

so it must work like this, right?

i mean why else would the senators be like that.

so the corries start their casual blackmail, bullying, larceny, murder not out of revenge but just because That Is How Society Works

and after a little while maybe they accidentally have a burgeoning criminal empire, several senators in their pockets, a cordoned-off territory in the midlevel, and they’re working on expansion ever upwards

the corries have no idea that there’s a sith in the senate. there’s an arsehole or twenty but that’s okay, thorn has something on most of the aides and stone is collecting protection from the others. it’s all under control.

cody: i’ve heard your explanation
cody: i have a few more questions
bly, ferreting through the neglected datapads on fox’s desk: did you ever do any of this padwork?
fox: what are they gonna do, fire me?
bly: i want to be you when i grow up

I am gently holding the costume designers for Primavera (Italy, 2025) and kissing them on the mouth

no one is done up to be 21st century attractive. the main characters have stained teeth. no one has their hair out: men have wigs, lower class women have caps.

and even when something is not historical, it's done for a narrative reason and it works

yes this is about the Odyssey trailer with men wearing fucking trousers

let me be crystal clear: I would adore a Romeo + Juliet style setting and design, a strong visual choice that has nothing to do with historical accuracy. make it full fantasy, or make it a western AU and put everyone in cowboy gear, I can respect those choices

what I cannot respect is the absolute cowardice of that dark and gritty faux-realism that means all clothes and armour are brown or black

(maybe the current cultural and political trends have me paranoid but I also think the pants are a sign of modern masculinity norms getting even narrower, bc you used to be able to be a macho sex symbol and still show some slutty thigh in a sword and sandals production until recently. but nooo. we can't have men in skirts. I would bet my entire ass that this entire movie won't have Odysseus cry at all, either. feel free to dig this up in july or whenever and tell me I was wrong.)
