what’s hb:l!reader and rafe doing for mother’s day?

the first year they were back together, rafe went all out. he decorated flowers in her apartment, bought her favorite sweets, and bought so much jewelry that complemented both emmy and her! truly, hbl!reader mourned that holiday because of what she lost. she just wanted something simple, nice, and to be with rafe to dull out the pain. they settled on a walk around campus, a drive to a nearby beach, and a homecooked meal where rafe nearly burned down her kitchen.

the second year, rafe got better. he got her flowers and set them in a glass vase inside their (shared!) apartment. rafe got drafted to the nfl, so they're living in whatever city he was drafted. because of the new career, reader had been telling him he didn't need to get her anything because they didn't have a kid, but rafe refused to listen. rafe bought emmy her favorite treats + new toys, and got her another chanel necklace that she liked to show off (jj tried to touch it once and she scratched him, again). coming home from practice, rafe took reader to a record store that he booked out for the entire evening, played their favorite tracks, and danced together, eyes closed, head leaning on his chest. it was one of her favorite days yet.

the third year, rafe was busy, reader suspected he forgot. they don't have a kid, after all. he got rookie of the year, so his popularity and fame skyrocketed. he had been flying in and out of the states to attend conferences, interviews, and late-night shows. he tried to fly reader out with him, but she hated flying, so she ended up staying home. emmy refused to leave reader's side throughout the entire day. by the time the sun set, reader got ready for bed. somehow, by the grace of god, rafe ended up coming home in time. he was planning on surprising reader, with her favorite flowers in his hand, and a little note he wrote, and a physical cd he burned on the plane. when he snuck into their bedroom, she was nowhere to be found. emmy either. he didn't want to call out for her, so he looked around. luckily, the search ended rather quickly with reader in the bathroom. sitting on the toilet seat. with a pregnancy test in her hands. it read positive.

the following year, the holiday came true.
