u know when u impulse buy a record player for like 70 pounds because u have like 3 ringo starr records and no means to play them?

and then it hits u

this isn't a shitty amazon thing with built in speakers.. this is from the 80s.. do i need speakers? wait why would i need an amplifier aren't they for... like electric guitars? what in the world is a pre amp? i know what mono is, but what is phono? wait do i even have space? oh I'm going to have to get its own little piece of furniture? wait i need a slipmat too right? rca cables as in like... the record label?

£225 pound later and reading lots of pretentious threads of reddit 'audiophiles' i have 70s/80s hifi shit on the way, and tomorrow im getting a media unit from facebook marketplace that i then need to sand and paint.

why do i do this. you know, i could have just.. thought for 1 second, saved for a tiny while longer and just got an audio technica and some bluetooth or whatever speakers. but no.

turns out i am also buying a shelf, because the 'compact' bookshelf speakers are actually humongous. and they are 55. did i panic buy them because i didn't understand? probably!

oh and i have to make a makeshift platform from the drawer inside of its own little piece of furniture to hold the FIVE kilo amp. why does it weigh that much??

but i did buy a BB record so that's a positive..

the speakers turned up. in a moving box. they are even more humongous than i expected. also they weigh the same as the amp, so.. im returning the shelf..

i feel bad for the postman

might as well add to this extremely long thing ive got going,,

the turntable came smashed to bits, because the guy put one tiny layer of bubble wrap. i pettily wrapped it in an ungodly amount of the bubble wrap that came with the humongous speakers, (which i have lovingly dubbed my 'speakies', even if they are massive, they are pretty looking) to send back to him. he thinks it just needs a part replacing but its racketing like a car with a broken engine...

anyway, I've got another marantz coming, just not one as good. but it may be a paper weight anyway, considering the whole inheriting one as long as its in good shape and i can get it running, that will be the one, but I'm not too worried as having a backup with all old gear never is a bad thing. and i have a drawer to keep it in for the foreseeable anyway.

the speakers are finally unboxed and in my room though. the amp is arriving tomorrow, but with no player.. i cant test any of it. maybe i can dig out the old walkman i have and see if i can hook that up to it just to test it and the speakers?
