First post about Cuphead cause this has been BREWING in my head since I saw the panel. Small spoiler alert we do find out Cuphead can’t read🥹🤞. This is just gonna be fluff because I need fluff rn. Nickname used once (toots). Idk I think it fits. Touchstarved!cuphead, maybe a little Ooc but I’m trying my best. GN!READER.
“Listen toots, I know you’re trying to do me a favor but.. when I told you that in confidence I didn’t exactly expect you to become my English teacher.” Cuphead mumbled out. His fingers were intertwined with yours as you went to your bookshelf to pick out a book.
He had every chance to pull his hand away and not participate in whatever you were thinking, but knowing himself he’d rather die than pull away. His hand stayed firm around your own as you inspect the spines of each book. Pausing every couple of books, taking a closer look until sighing in dismay.
Soon your face brightened as your hand layer on a specific book.” There we go!” You voiced. Your hands grabbing the book as you tuck it in the hinge of your arm. “Now go get comfy in bed while I get ready.” You said as you rush out to go find your reading light. The book still wrapped in your arms.
Cuphead let out a sigh as he shrugged his coat off. “What am I getting into…” his voice tired but lacking any malice. He truly couldn’t be mad at you when you’re just trying to help him. He soon kicks his shoes off, stretching as he flopped on the bed. His limbs stretched out, reminiscing of a snow angle.
Footsteps scamper in, soon the lights turning off, well save for a small lamp on the nightstand next to the bed. “Now scoot over, we can’t do this if I have no room. “ You laughed as you got comfortable, pulling Cuphead closer as well. He didn’t argue as you adjusted him as you liked.
“If you’re gonna try and make me read it’s not gonna work.” His voice low and tired as his hands comfortably wrap around your waist. “You don’t have to do much. Just follow along as I read out loud.” You comment.
Cuphead playfully rolled his eyes as he watched you open the book. “You can ask me if any words are giving you trouble.”. Your voice was soothing as you started to read. His eyes following every word on the page as your slow narration made it easier. Though he was having trouble (not that he would admit it). He had to admit this was one of the nicest things anyone has done for him.
Cuphead isn’t a shameful man. That doesn’t mean he can’t be embarrassed every now and then. Safe to say having a low reading level was a bit embarrassing. So embarrassing he never sought to ask help with his reading comprehension. So having you patiently read to him, even explaining things when he had the guts to ask. All of this combined to make his heart swoon even more then he ever thought it could.
His eye lids grew heavy as your voice slowly lulled him to sleep. His arms around your waist tightening as Cuphead shut his eyes. His mind having the ability to go silent as he continued to listen. Every word that left your mouth was just another reminder on why he loved you so much.
The soft, heart throbbing love you save for someone who sees every flaw and kiss them like they were perfection.
Authors note: I really hope this isn’t Ooc cause again I’m not to far into it! But I really loved writing this. Though Mugman is my favorite this idea couldn’t get out of my mind so I had to write it first!
