Did My Heart Love 'Till Now - Preview #2
Hey you lovely readers and everyone who is excited to read a YOI post-canon story! I'm a little late, but here comes preview #2. This time, it gives you a glimpse into training with the new rinkmates.
But first, please behold this absolutely stunning illustration that my friend @cosmiclion has drawn for me (thank you for your patience and putting up with my nitpicking 💙).
This scene is the first thing that comes to mind, when I picture them living together in St. Petersburg. Viktor left his home city and the sport over this brigde because he wanted to be with his Yuuri, and now he returns together with his Yuuri. I'm in love with how cute they look and little details like the sparkles in their eyes or the reflections of the sunset on the bridge and the dome of St. Isaac's Cathedral.
Since this illustration will become the cover image, you will see it everytime I post a new chapter, but with some text on it. I will include the text-free version in the story.
... and finally, here's the promised preview with a special appearance of the boyfriend hoodie from last week:
Huddled into the grey hoodie that now belonged to Yuuri, Viktor leaned against the barrier, warming his fingers on a cup of coffee. Last night, after the movie and an extended session of gentle love-making, Yuuri had told him that he could not wait to see Viktor skate again.
“I don’t care how high you will score, Viktor. I just want to see you on the ice.”
“And I cannot wait to skate for you, Yuuri,” Viktor had replied.
Yuuri was right to suggest testing our idea this season, Viktor thought. I don’t know how long it will take me to return to the level I was at when I stopped.
Near the bend, Yuuri fell on the triple Axel and slid several meters across the ice. Alexej and Natalja, the two pair skaters, who joined the morning training only during the first hour due to their odd university schedules, jumped out of the way. Viktor’s heart broke a little. Yuuri rarely flubbed this jump.
“Yuuri!” he called. “Go on to the step sequence. We’ll practise the Axel later.”
Yuuri nodded, his jaw set with determination. Viktor watched him speed up. Then he launched into a quad toe which he landed with a wobbly ankle. Viktor shook his head. I didn’t instruct you to skate all the way to the step sequence. Naughty, Yuuri. On the ice, Yuuri did the triple Axel-Euler-triple Salchow combination. He came down double-footed and touched the ice.
“Hey, Katsudon!” Yurio called from the bend where he was practising quad toes with rippons. “What’s wrong with you? You’re a disgrace!”
“Yuri!” Yakov barked. “Other coaches’ students are not your business!”
Yurio tossed his chin-long hair out of his eyes. “But his skating sucks!”
“I can’t practise when he always falls in front of my blades!” Yurio snapped, his hands curled into fists. “Why must he train with us? The rink is open all day!”
If I must discuss rink times with Yakov again, Yurio would side with me. Viktor chuckled. Then he glanced at Yuuri who was blinking in confusion. It’s good that Yuuri doesn’t yet understand Russian.
“Stop whining, Yuri!” Mila yelled from the other side of the rink.
“Shut up, old hag!” Yurio yelled back.
“Watch your tongue or I will scrub your mouths with curd soap!” Yakov yelled.
Confused about the exchange, Yuuri set up the next jump combination and hauled himself into the air just as Georgi twizzled past. Yuuri stumbled out of the first jump and steadied himself with one hand on the ice. He cursed in Japanese. Viktor stroked his chin. He’s no longer used to sharing the rink with other skaters.
“Yuuri!” Viktor called. “Over here!”
A frown crossed Yuuri’s brow. He blinked and faced Viktor. “But I haven’t yet skated the step sequence!”
“Yuuri, that’s an order from your coach,” Viktor said.
Blushing, Yuuri glided to the barrier. Their rinkmates had stopped whatever they were practising and were watching them. Mila and Jelena stuck their heads together.
“I’m thinking about rearranging the schedule,” Viktor told Yuuri. “You get the noon slots, I take the mornings.” Yakov would like that. He could supervise all his single skaters at once, although Viktor could hear him complain that he preferred to coach Viktor alone.
Yuuri reached for this bottle. “I’m not tired, I’m acclimating.” His eyes flashed with annoyance and determination. “Don’t pamper me, Viktor! We’ve agreed on testing this schedule before making any changes!”
But you’re stressed, Viktor wanted to object. Trying to understand Yuuri’s way of dealing with different kinds of stress was giving him constant headaches. Supporting Yuuri in silence seemed to work best but did nothing to curb Viktor’s desire to help. “Yuuri, what do you want me to do?” he asked.
“Nothing. Just be there and let me get used to this ice.”
The fire in Yuuri’s eyes softened. He put his bottle back in the barrier. “Thank you.”
Viktor curled his fingers around Yuuri’s. “Now show me the step sequence before Yurio kills us both for keeping him from his run-through.”
Bonus: a funny comments from my beta, the wonderful @zeco5000 (thank you, you're doing an amazing job! 💜), about Viktor worrying over Yuuri, showcasing that he's still an inexperienced coach which, let's be frank, he absolutely is.
Time to separate coach and lover here, Viktor.
I'm going to post Chapter 1 on Sunday, 22nd December. It's called "The poster kink" if that helps 🤭
