Hello friends

In all my spare time I halter break and train baby horses the gentle way and this year my baby business has been BOOMING. I currently have 14 babies in training, and I have birthed an ungodly amount. I'm focusing more on posting and sharing these moments with everyone but don't want to do it here because it's not related to my blog and is a lot more personal. I will always accept questions here though! I have been an equine reproduction vet assistant for 11 years and as my boss nears retirement I've built my side businesses up and have some exciting opportunities in my future (it involves even more births and more limp noodle baby pics) I just want to share the personal side of my passions and hobbies with my wonderful followers, don't be scared to ask questions! Looking for a conformation critique of my old dude. @craigslisthorses do you do regular conformation critiques? He is 23

He looks great for an old man! He's a bit steep in the shoulder which makes his pattern angles a little upright as well. High wither, but not sure if he's had that his whole life or just age related. The way he's standing makes him look camped out behind but he's not squared up. His back and neck are a bit on the longer side but not extreme in any way. Very nice looking man, give him treats

Yall don't do dumb shit like this because this is why people get hurt. 1-turning around to scare the colt back off of you WITH THE ROPE AROUND YOUR BODY? 2-leading in front of colt, taking your eyes off of him? BAD IDEA. 3-walking in front of colt then stopping suddenly and BACKING YOUR BACK INTO HIM IS ASKING HIM TO JUMP ON YOUUUU

This lady is on Facebook bragging about this and her training and telling everyone else they have no idea what they are talking about, and how the interaction is just giving her more money so keep it up and blah blah blah honey child you have no business training young horses 😭

Hello! I'm thinking of going to college to get a degree in animal behavioral science, and I was just wondering how many people you meet in the horse world have that degree.

I was also kind of wondering if you knew whether or not they felt like their degree helped them in their field -- like there seem to be a lot of classes based on animal nutrition and physiology in addition to the animal psychology classes (and in schools that have an equine track, those classes are horse specific), so I can see how that would help someone better understand how to take care of horses, and I've also seen classes that are based on evaluating horse conformation, which would also be useful.

I guess the short version is: how many people in the horse industry (especially the horse training/breeding/boarding world) have animal related degrees (especially an animal behavior science degree) versus working mainly off of practical experience and self-or-mentor-directed learning/research, and how do you and others in the industry feel about formal education vs practical experience? (Sorry, I tend to ramble)

I'd say it's about 50/50 to be honest. A lot of higher end clinics will require a degree of some sort to work in them. There's a lot of horse barn owners or managers that have degrees in horse/animal sciences and I do find it beneficial in obtaining more knowledge, plus having the degree may make you more desirable to hire. Is it necessary to get a good job? No. A lot of veterinarians like someone with experience, at least here that's true. I was once belittled by a vet student because I didn't have a degree so I wasn't allowed to call myself a "vet tech" despite having 10 years experience in vetmed. I later took my moms dog to the vet, and when I told him I was an assistant, not a tech, because i didn't have a degree he blew me off and was like "Eh, you're a tech regardless" lmfao so moral of the story is dont let no bitch belittle you because you don't have a degree amen

I'm obsessed with your free horse and her gigantic head. Do you have any specific plans for her once she grows up?

Yep! She is gonna be my first show horse. Will take her the flatshod route and depending on how she carries herself naturally she will either go English or western

Akhal teke stud submitter here -- looking through the "Akhal-Teke Lines" page on the newer version of the ATAA website, I noticed that a lot of the horses on the page have neck problems (ewe necked, undermuscled, etc). Would that be a sign of genetic issues regarding neck muscling, or just that the owners of a lot of those horses weren't doing whatever exercises/conditioning that help develop the neck? Thank you!

hey! So Teke's are generally super strange looking alien horses and it's not uncommon for them to have peculiar neck conformation.

Akhal Teke's are an extremely agile breed, and built very lean, for example you can compare them to a whippet, or greyhound.

Hi there! Asking this because of so many breeders falsely advertising their gray horses as roans -- can a horse stop graying at a certain point, or will it always progress towards becoming "white?" The "true black roan" you posted a while back comes to mind. Using him as an example, is it possible that he only grayed that much and will stay like that for the rest of his life? Or are his owners just idiots/scammers?

No all grey horses will turn mostly "white" with the exception of flea bitten and sometimes darker dapples stick around for a while

Theres different shades and variations but they will never stay that pretty dark salt and pepper

Is this not the biggest wolf tooth you've ever seen? Took 30 minutes just to get that bad boy out

Prev tag clarification. Wolf teeth serve no purpose and are just leftover from evolution and cause interference with the bit. The tooth we extracted was completely blind (buried under the gum)

Wolf tooth location ^

What you're thinking of are canines

We do not pull canines

And for reference to add, these are standard wolf teeth size

I also got these out a day prior in a filly sired by the same horse as the hecking chonker
