Students and instructors at North Island College (NIC) say they're disappointed following the institution's recommendation to suspend 15 programs from its three main campuses on mid and north Vancouver Island. The recommendations were made as part of the college's expedited program impact assessment that began last fall, and will go to the board of governors for approval on Feb. 5. "The review has taken place during a time of significant financial pressure for post-secondary institutions across Canada," said a college spokesperson in a written statement.

This is my college and one of the programs they're looking to cancel is literally the entire fine art diploma program.
This is not only one of the most popular programs in the school with some of the highest satisfaction scores, but is also one of the only affordable art programs on the island with transferable college credits. If they cancel this I either have to change my entire program or go to UVIC or VIU, neither of which are very accessible to me.
Very disappointing. They also only let us know this past Tuesday for a decision to be made by the end of January, so we have very little time to speak out.
