quick brain come up with a reason for cypher to be around during the smith virus i need him to be surrounded by smith i need him to be smithed

hmm, i suppose in a version of events where cypher got caught out meeting up with smith before he could help with the ambush, you could make the case that the neb crew wouldn't kill him bc he hadn't actually got anyone killed himself yet, but that they'd no longer trust him as far as they could throw him. so they take him back to zion to be punished/imprisoned/rehabilited or what have you, basically disallowed from going anywhere near the matrix ever again.

and from there, with cypher being cypher, i feel like an escape attempt of some sort is inevitable, like he evades his captors and hijacks an unattented hovership, flies as far from zion as he can before probably crashing, and then, assuming his escape succeeded, and he's not recaptured, he just starts living out in the wilderness as a human exile. using the communication network on the stolen hovership, he begins connecting himself up to the matrix for days on end (very dangerous) before returning to the real world to begrudgingly look after his actual body, all the while in the background, the rest of matrix 1 (slightly to the left, since the agents would have to get morpheus some other way), the six month time skip, and the beginning of matrix reloaded is all still going on.

then, one day, on one of his by that point nigh uncountable virtual excursions, cypher stumbles upon smith, or rather, stumbles upon a whole gang of smiths, who, of course, whilst creepily in sync, are all just like "…mr reagan?". and then they talk, like they used to; cypher explains why he seemingly bailed on the plan, the smiths vaguely describe how their agent self was destroyed and how they became what they are now, they each give their version of comiseration at the precieved betrayal at the hand of their respective species, and then one of the smiths steps forward, making clear the time has come for cypher to join them. the smiths expect the usual fear, but cypher practically welcomes assimilation with open arms; his body in the real world has been flagging for some time now, and if it means he can finally rejoin the matrix wholly and fully, he'll happily become one with smith. very happily, in fact :)

or something along those lines ha ha

i fucking love this thank you whattt...... 💚💚💚

CyphSmith thoughts on the brain because I adore these two:

  • Cypher is the yapper - Smith can be too, if something is REALLY bothering him
  • Smith usually picks where he and Cypher will meet, since he's literally programmed to know the locations inside the Matrix. He can even take Cypher to more secret places that the average person cannot access... (rubs hands together mischeviously)
  • Cypher leads their relationship often - he flirts with Smith as a joke at first, then he was genuinely invested in him. (haha, it's like how I shipped them as a joke first!!). and Smith had plenty of comebacks to shut him down to hide his affection fot a while xD
  • Smith can easily take the lead when he wants, with his role as an Agent and his natural ability to be intimidating. Problem is whether Cypher will take him seriously, he enjoys testing Smith and his authority, until it comes to threats of terminating their deal. what a brat.
  • Brown and Jones have no idea they’re kind of a thing - they do, however, ask Smith why hes gone for hours at a time. Smith doesnt elaborate.
  • Smith calls him Mr. Reagan usually, and by his first name (Vincent/Vince is my hc name for him) when hes feeling fond of him. Some part of me wants Smith to call him Cypher if getting on his nerves (like c'mon. Cypher is gonna get annoying)
  • They both have a bit of guilt about having to seperate and pursue their own goals, but its something they HAVE to do. I like to play around with the idea of one getting way too attached tho, not wanting to leave their relationship behind. especially when its Smith aAAAHHH
  • they complain about their lives a lot but neither one is good at expressing negative emotions other than anger grrr.... imagine if one breaks and starts sobbing a little :[[[

20. What is their dynamic like in the bedroom?

20 questions for CyphSmith !!

because I want to write stuff for them but im far too lazy to make an actual story?.........

THE BASICS

1. When did you start shipping them? No joke, i've been shipping CyphSmith since I saw the steak scene for the first time. Started ironically, then I started talking about it and taking it seriously in December 2024. I was prompted to upon finding out theres ZERO fanart or fanfic of them being paired together online. let alone even existing together in fanart (people just do not like to draw Cypher) So I decided I have to provide my own art with whatever motivation I have in me :]
2. What do you like about them as individuals? about Smith - I've loved him for ages, began getting back into him and The Matrix when he got added to Multiversus. I just find Smith and his tropes, and abilities and concept of Agents in general to be very cool, and he's hawt. about Cypher - I actually used to HATE him. Then I slowly got into his character. I think it helps I see myself in him with his dissatisfaction with reality. we're not getting into that right now though. also when I first showed my partner The Matrix, they were really interested in Cypher too and that fuels me MOREE
3. What about their dynamic appeals to you? I like when two individuals start out working against eachother, and then they do business together, putting some amount of trust into eachother to get what they want done. also their secrecy, moreso on Cypher's side where the crew has no idea he has teamed with Agents. And they are long-distance too, Smith being trapped in the Matrix and Cypher being unplugged from it. Also just realised they want opposite shit in M1 lmao. Cypher wants to be in, Smith wants to be out. i have so many thoughts about their dynamic. too much for me to type
4. What are their favorite things about one another? Smith - aside from being a useful asset to the agency, Smith's favourite thing about Cypher is his bold intentions and refined taste. He's not just being reinserted as some guy, nor returning to how he was before being unplugged. He wants to be an actor. With all the money a man could ask for. I just feel like Smith would admire his forwardness. Also while he tries to keep a "business only" relationship with Cypher, Smith appreciates having someone other than Brown and Jones to converse with. Someone who can handle him being more... honest. Cypher - he, of course, enjoys the luxury and protection Smith provides him in the Matrix, but also just having him as company. On the Neb, Cypher is so detached that he isolates himself from the other crewmates. He really can't relate to them. Connecting with Smith has given him someone slightly more alike to turn to.
5. How do you envision them getting together? Diverting from the events of the film a little here, but I have been imagining Cypher scheduling frequent meetups with Smith before, rather than it being the just the one steak scene. I made a post detailing this theory/idea/AU? yea. Anyways, I like the idea of a slowish burn between them, for weird feelings to fester as they both get to know eachother and their reasons more, and they refuse to address the tensipn because it's not in either one's plans. and they don't want to get attached before going through with their plans. also I can envision Cypher lets it slip first that he's got feelings for Smith.

THE FLUFF (nope)

Not really into it enough to write anything for this stuff. Also all of my ideas happens within The Matrix's story and thats often far from of a cute domestic setting! So I don't have good answers. I'm skipping 6 - 10

THE ANGST

11. How do they comfort each other? Cypher listens, and would try words of affirmation, but quickly he realises he's shit at it. He offers physical affection as a compromise (but now its a matter of whether Smith will like it or not. I see him being very particular about it. but of course Cypher is the only human who can be comfortably close to him ^^) Smith offers expensive gifts and outings so Cypher can get spoiled and taken away from whatever's bothering him. Also, an optional deep conversation if the aforementioned doesn't work, to get everything out. Suppression really isnt good for the mind, the agents do need a functional battery to reinsert (but Smith also cares about Cypher :] ...)
12. Is there anything you don’t like about this ship? I guess the fact that they are doomed in the general Matrix storyline. if they get into their feelings, they're gonna have a hard time seperating to achieve their goals, but if they suppress their feeling they're gonna be so frustrated they are utterly DOOMED (but i also love love looove a doomed relationship?? so i dont know what i genuinely don't like about them....)
13. What would be their least favorite things about one another? Cypher can be a tease to a degree where Smith can get annoyed with him. Cypher can also come off as needy, and overly physical, and in private it's alright but Smith doesn't like any signs that they are more than business partners in public. Smith can be overbearing when in the presence of the other agents or the general public - Cypher is aware he has a facade to keep up. But when they're alone together, Smith seems so alive and evolved. Therefore it feels weird when he reverts back to his cold machine tendencies.
14. What sorts of things might they argue about? Oh, don't get me started. IMO they would start arguing soooo easily, since they can both get hot-headed. Not sure WHAT sorts of things specifically, but I can yap about their dynamic when in an argument. Smith would be angry and raise his voice a bit, but he would be more rational than Cypher. Also I think he would reach out first when they try and fix things afterwards. Cypher is a drama queen and blows stuff out of proportion. I also think he would not be the type to forgive first. But once Smith reaches out, he realises how much he's blown it up and feels kinda guilty.
15. Do they face any pushback from friends, families, or society over their relationship? For as long as they keep it secret, no. If the Neb crew and other agents found out about the relationship, those two are fucked.

SAUCY BONUS BELOW (cus why not, huh.)

not one for writing convincing The Matrix theories, but do have my thoughts about Cypher being able to jack into The Matrix on his own. simply to explain Cypher and Smith kissing

Remember Mouse saying he could arrange Neo a "personalised" encounter with The Woman in Red? was thinking to myself "who the fuck would wanna operate for THAT?" so i imagined that Mouse had been able to create a script to automate jacking in and out of simulations without needing an operator.

it is considered risky to use by the others - despite that, it works quite well with the Construct. of course, it is not designed for Matrix use, and any attempt to make it work with the Matrix is NOT ADVISED

so anyways Cypher being the hedonistic (also sad and lonely) bastard he is, would have been VERY interested in "meeting" The Woman in Red. Mouse gave him access to the software he needs for that a while back. and Cypher uses it a bit for sure - then he secretly copies and begins altering the automation script, so he can use it with the Matrix because OF COURSE. now instead of the Woman in Red he's banging SMITH

he can now plug himself into the Matrix, and the script calls a set phone at the set time Cypher wants to jack out. All hes gotta do is make it on time for the rings. imagine if he misses the phone and gets STUCK IN THE MATRIX. thats one of the many possible risks there could be, and it sounds hilarious honestly

anyways theres my bullshittery, take of it what you will xD

Hi! Honestly, this ship is fine in my book. I like when pairings make sense, and this one does because both Smith and Cypher betrayed their homeland to achieve their goal. I've explained my opinion on Smith's situation already, so I'm gonna say that I do understand where Cypher was coming from, and even though it was low of him to do that to people who were practically his family, I can't blame him for wanting to find peace and fix the mistake he made 10 years ago, which was choosing the red pill. If we take Smith from M1 only, his motives were of the same kind. He was looking for a way to end his misery. So if he and Cypher became close, perhaps they would push each other towards their goal because their love is strong enough to realize they need to do this; so Smith gets deleted and Cypher returns to being a Bluepill without any painful memories of Smith being, as humans put it, dead. So yeah, this ship is not my most favorite, but it has great potential and drama that is often overlooked (mainly because people dislike Cypher and don't want to see his point of view). I think I even reblogged your fan art of them lol. Thank you for asking, hope this was informative!
