If a man is drowning, you have to help him.

Irina Sendler said, "My parents taught me that if a man is drowning, it doesn’t matter what his religion or nationality is. You have to help him."

When the Nazis began to trap the Jewish quarter in Warsaw,

Irina sneaked into the neighborhood with official papers, saying she was there to check for diseases. But her real goal was to save the babies from death.

She carried a medical box and carefully hid some babies inside it. Often, she used potato carts to hide other children and move them outside the trapped area, or covered them with blankets to keep them hidden from the guards.

She had a well-trained dog that barked loudly whenever the guards came near, to distract them and cover the babies’ cries and screams.

Irina wrote their real names on small pieces of tissue, put them inside bottles, and buried the bottles under an apple tree at a friend’s house. She believed that one day, someone would find those bottles.

The Nazis caught her and tortured her,

breaking her legs and feet, but she never told them about any child. She kept their secrets safe.

Her friends bribed the guards and got her released.

During the war, she saved about 2,500 children.

When asked why she risked everything, she simply answered,

"I couldn’t leave them."

Whoever saves one life, saves the whole world.

And sometimes you can’t save one life, sometimes it doesn’t work, sometimes there’s no way out for anyone, but … try anyway. Because it matters anyway.

And maybe no one will ever know. But maybe someday, more than a hundred years later, some stranger will cry into her coffee because of what you died trying.

whenever i find a good world heritage post i do my best to carefully remove unnecessary "why is this so funny!!" or "i cant believe i found the original" reblog comments. sometimes it takes a bit of work digging back through the reblog graph to accomplish this but fine art restoration is tedious but important work

you get it

These are short and pretty quick to read, so I strongly encourage you to read them in their entirety. Here’s an excerpt from the end of “Transfeminine Cultural Nationalism Vs Trans Feminism.”

it's incredible that you can say something as simple as "food should be free for everyone" and some prick spawns in to be like "ummmm ☝️🤓 how are you planning on financing this?" as if 99% of all the money in the world isn't in the pockets of 6 people

Do not forget the other victims of ICE

as much as we must mourn and stand in solidarity with Renee Nicole Good, please do not forget the other victims of ice raids, who are not white. Silverio Villegas González, a cook from mexico who was dropping his son off at daycare and was murdered Jaime Alanis, a farmer from mexico who fell off a green house at the farm where he worked to send money to his wife and daughter Roberto Carlos Montoya Valdez, a father and grandfather from Guatemala who was hit by a car Josué Castro Rivera, a garden from Honduras who was struck by a car And so many others who were killed or are dying in detention centres, prisons ect racial bias is always something we must be aware of, Renee will be focused on because she was a white woman and a US citizen, but do not forget all the other victims of ICE, may they all rest in power

more people need to start blorboposting with she/her pronouns. idc if ur usually emotionally closed off white boy is emotionally clsoed off and you want him sobbing on the floor you can acomplish that by asking your roomate to do the dishes. but an emotionally closed off WOMAN? ..now were talking.
