They're calling it the most liberal Tweet to ever be Tweeted
Do you think the vampires in twilight start having nothing but the craziest sex ever after being alive for A While? Like now they sort of exclusively swim to the bottom of an ancient body of water to a deep dark cave and try to fit all the stalagmites up their ass or something
Man I hate reading the clan of the cave bear for reasons I can't articulate (and some that I can: why on earth did Auel have a ten year old get raped and give birth? I get that these books are old and that idk they wanted to Really hammer home that It Was Brutal but it just doesn't seem realistic to me. I think I read that in many monkey species violent males get cast out or killed because it's so detrimental to the group dynamic).
But there is something in the representation of Neanderthal society as something so primitive that it seems crazy to me. You mean to tell me they are incapable of abstract thought and then give them a very elaborate religion? You give them telepathy and a rich emotional life and then make them sexist as hell? Ayla is presented as the worlds most beautiful and fertile 11 year old who is also crazy smart and good at everything and The Future of mankind and Auel is working overtime to sort of... tell us why the Neanderthals kind of deserved it from an evolutionary standpoint? It just seems unkind and I don't know exactly why but sort of racist ?? Ayla is blond and white and perfect and she's here to surpass these sexually aggressive savages in every thinkable way.
3, 7 and 13?
3. Something you're looking forward to?
My bestie has been visiting his home country for a month but he's back and we're going to hang out on Saturday!!!
7. Favorite mode of travel?
Train for sure!!! Not all trains though, the swedish sj trains and Snälltåget are the best :) i HATE öresundståg though haha
13. Something i learned recently?
Tough one, I feel like i learn little things everyday... but i recently learned that Neanderthals had no true chin and I thought that was very interesting. I think it's crazy that there used to be a whole other kind of human and sometimes I genuinely feel very very sad that they don't exist anymore :(
