She had watched him nearly kill a man, had seen just how dangerous he truly could be, but his voice was soft and gentle, and she knew if she looked at him in that moment, she would start to sob and would not be able to stop.

It's interresting how Rookanis' talk before tearstone island can go depending on what dialogue you choose.
The first time I played, the conversation didnt go too well, Lucanis was frustrated and he stopped Rook from telling him he loved him, which made Rook frustrated, it felt pretty angsty:
Lucanis: "They moved the moon. We're in over our heads. That's not magic you can fight with a blade ! You're putting your life in our hands. My hands. All I know is death."
Dialogue option: I trust you
Rook:" I know we'll get through this"
Lucanis: "Optimism is your worst and best quality. If I have to kill every blighted creature in Thedas to keep you safe, I will."
Dialogue option: We're in this together
Rook:" You don't have to do everything alone"
Lucanis: " I'm never alone anymore" (refering his possession)
Rook: "You know what I mean. I'll be there for you"
Lucanis: (sounding sad) "Don't make promises you might not keep"
Rook: "Lucanis, I-"
Lucanis: (making this face: è-é) "Don't. Whatever it takes, I wont miss this time. I'll meet you at the eluvian"
Then Rook leaves saying "business as usual" blablabla, super frustrating !! Personally I'd be pissed at him for the possession comment. I was trying to be nice to you you emo bird.
Anyway, here's how very different it can go:

Dialogue option: Don't back out now
Rook: " This isn't a time to have second thoughts, Lucanis. No one else can do this."
Lucanis" You know I don't quit. If I have to kill every blighted creature in Thedas to keep you safe, I will."
Dialogue option: It won't take that many
Rook:" Two blighted creatures will be enough"
Lucanis: (looking like this: 😏) "The most dangerous two."
Rook: " And when they're gone, the rest will be easy. You'll see."
Lucanis: " What would I do withou you?"
Rook: " Don't tempt fate" (foreshadowing 🤪)
Lucanis: " I don't intend to. If all the gods have to die for you, it's a small price to pay. I'll meet you at the eluvian."
I'D BE ON MY KNEES!! It's such a sexy talk, it shows how deeply in love Lucanis is, he clearly says he'll do this, no matter the odds, because of how much he loves you. Rook seems to have successfully reassured him, he's more confident. It's SO DIFFERENT from the outcome of the other conversation.
Clearly gentle parenting won't work on Lucanis, you have to tell him to LOCK TF IN and he'll respond with the craziest love confession lines. *sighs* i'm not suprised... Caterina what have you done to this man...
