I will never make animations with color again. There are several errors in the animation that I couldn't correct in time, so I just gave up.

Flamey-o hotmans, been watching Avatar the last airbender and I just had to draw a wip of Kataraang in that one dance party scene in the ep the headband. They're so cute! I wanna draw more Avatar fanart but I have my programming course assignments to work on 😢

it baffles me how die hard zutara fans use the southern raiders episode to defend how their ship should've been canon when that episode has a clear depiction of how deeply aang understands and believes in katara in contrast to zuko.

from what aang knows about her as a person, revenge isn't ultimately what will help her heal, but he still lets her make that decision for herself and he ultimately ends up being right that katara is not a vengeful person and revenge wouldn't have given her closure. but the important thing here is he trusted she would stay true to herself.

meanwhile zuko doesn't even know what katara being true to herself would look like. he is surprised by her unwillingness to hurt the man who killed her mother, and learns from her and aang as a result. zuko literally acknowledges that aang was right to believe that katara wouldn't want to hurt him.

Kataang Winter Bash

Happy 2026, Kataangers! Mod Cabby here. We're getting so close to the date for the winter bash that had been initially announced by dailykataang over on X/Twitter. Unfortunately, life came at them sideways and they had to quietly step back from hosting that event. However, I am hopeful that we can pull off a Kataang winter miracle and still get a bit of Kataang-y goodness out. They've already done all the hard work for me: dates are chosen, prompts are settled on, and this lovely graphic is already made. So all that's left is to hype it and see what fun Kataang content we can get the year rolling with!

What is the Kataang Winter Bash?

A four-day event brand new this year that gives us some wonderful Kataang content to warm our chilly winter days (or to enjoy in the air-conditioning, if you live where your January is already plenty warm. Ha!) It will run from Jan. 15-18, 2026.

How do I participate?

The most common ways to participate are by creating art or writing a fic and posting it online. Some people try and create something for every day while others only fill one or two prompts.  Most days have multiple prompt ideas. Feel free to select your favorite, or to combine as many as you'd like. As always, we want to reassure you that it’s perfectly okay not to do every prompt! We just hope to have lovely pieces to share on each day.

But I can’t draw or write!

That’s totally fine - there are more ways to participate! You can sing a song, bake some goodies, create jewelry inspired by the prompts - just about anything really. And of course, you can also show your support by reblogging and liking other people’s contributions.

How should I tag my work?

The easiest way for us to find your work so we can reblog it to this blog is by using the tag “kataang winter bash”. Using “kataangtag” can also help. You must tag one of these in your first five tags otherwise it doesn’t appear in the search. It is also helpful to tag us directly with @kataang-week.

Sometimes even properly tagged posts may not appear when we search the tags, so if you do not see your content reblogged, please let us know.

Once we’ve reblogged it to this blog we add our own tags (a prompt tag and a user tag) for easy organization. This means we can find all the work for one prompt or all the work from one user in one easy click.

Can I post my stuff other places online too?

Uh, absolutely! Details of this event will be shared on the Kataang Discord server as well as on the kataangst subreddit, and hopefully the talented creators on X/Twitter will also be able to join in.

One final note

I realize this is much shorter notice than we give for events such as our Kataang Week, and as such it may be tougher to get works completed in time. I'll absolutely reblog anything posted late (anytime in January or February) just to give ample time. As mentioned before, there was unavoidable circumstances that led to dailykataang on X no longer being able to host the event, so in the future I'm sure additional Winter Bashes will have ample lead up time. :) For now, I'm going to dedicate this event to dailykataang (and all the other amazing Kataangers on X), who really did lead the charge in getting this event rolling. I'm just riding the coattails of all the work they got done way back in the fall. :)

Vampire Kataang au from a spooky ask!🩸At first I thought, well, obviously Aang is the vampire, since he’s over 100 years old and supernatural, but then, I thought, wait - hear me out - Painted Lady= Vampiric River Siren? Idk! The face paint and design kind of works to me!

I'm sorry but I cannot believe we're almost in 2026 and I'm still seeing people fundamentally misunderstand the southern raiders episode. Zuko literally said "you were right about what she needed. Revenge wasn't the answer." and you people still don't get it? I love him but Zuko was projecting his own mommy issues on Katara, and his goal in taking her on that field trip was to get her to trust him. It didn't have to do with what she actually needed. Aang's goal in convincing her to not go was to help her. Not because killing goes against air nomad philosophy, but because air nomad philosophy and personal experience taught him that revenge poisons people and he wanted her to protect herself from that. And after she and Zuko both realize he's right, he doesn't say I told you so, he tells her he's proud of her and the decision she made.

I just don't get why when Katara tells Aang rage and pain isn't the answer she's being caring and kind (2x01) but when he tells her rage and pain isn't the answer he's being controlling and judgemental???
