I quite literally do not want to hear the words "kitchen table issues" ever again

I do not give a fuck about people's bills when minorities are having rights stripped away, places are being bombed and there's masked feds shooting people on the street

Frankly everyone should leave Twitter X the everything app whatever period. It’s not just a Nazi hellhole that steals art it now generates porn at an alarming rate things other sites would have long been shut down for. Remember how the porn ban happened here in the first place? The fact people still stay on that site and make excuse after excuse to stay there appalls me. Be honest say you prefer the clout. I hang here and on bluesky and when I tell you my mood increased immediately after I left Twitter god best decision I ever made.

But people won’t not just leave they still pay for blue and put money in that Nazi’s pocket. Leave. Have it eat itself from its own hatred and fall there are better places out there. Maybe I’m just old but I’ve moved a bunch from watching sites made on geocities to livejournal and forms to tumblr to Twitter to back to tumblr to bluesky etc and don’t understand if people once left this site in droves why they can’t leave what is at this point one of the worst places on the net. I poke my head in from time to time to see if anything will ever change and yes it’s still rancid as ever and getting worse by the day only the worse combative people are still there stop.

I fully agree say her name should not be used for a white death and people do need to be informed about that about why it’s a major no and how important it is to the black community and should only be used for the black community; however while that is happening I would not be surprised if blue checks are farming engagement with arguments to anger people make them fight and gain clout and money on top of all of this. Because people are stupid qt to dunk on them and bam engagement and easy money. And we should all leave Twitter. Just leave! It’s so easy!

I want to preface my response by saying that, for followers and moots still on Twitter, please understand that I try to be compassionate when it comes to various things, so if you have a reason for it and can curate your space well enough, then on a case-by-case basis I'm... fine about it.

However, in general I very much agree with you anon.

I get it, trust me I get it. Artists have built up followings there and can promote easily in spaces where they've cultivated lots of followers. Other workers can have better contacts there. The place was entertaining whenever I was on it, so I understand if you're there just to fuck around with fellow people in fandom spaces.

But it's just... where does line begin? It's a site made to platform Nazi propaganda, using AI tools that steal art and have been causing a noticeable mark on the environment!

"But other sites have right-wing influencer problems too, and no site is safe from AI scrapers!"

Okay. Then what about the rampant CSEM? The frequent sexual harassment when people use the AI of that site? The alogorithms that pick and choose what to promote, often to the detriment of actual artists, especially those of marginalized identities? Do the potential dollar signs you get from commissions really overrule the reputational stain that being on the site could bring? Is it truly that hard to find another source of income, or to try and build your following again somewhere else?

I'm trying to be sympathetic here, but to me Twitter is a wasteland and a place for societal rot to grow and thrive. And it's hard to get past the initial judgment of others who elect to stay there :/ Maybe it's a personal thing about myself that I need to work on idk

Honestly I genuinely never got the Fates hate because the writing wasn't like revolutionary but it was still a pretty good game. The only thing I didn't like was golden route dlc and even then like I kinda get it because you're basically paying for a third version game (Pokémon Style).

Controversial opinion fr but I actually think Three Houses could have potentially benefitted from a similar model tbh because it seems like they wanted to tell so much but couldn't fit it all in like how CF feels unfinished plus then they could show some instead of just telling but I might be wrong. Plus IntSys likes money and three-four individual games (depending on if the put SS in with CF or not) would have made bank.

And you're freakin based for that, anon.

Overall, I don't completely know what I would've wanted out of 3H as a whole when I have so many individual issues with it. Though I'm a sucker for happy endings, that'd require entire rewrites from the ground up for multiple stories and characters, so meh.

More than anything though, I just wish the game was more fun to play.

I would like to give tw cents as t the xander thing. The reason I can find him a bit hard to swallow someitmes as a character is a bit of reality subtext. As a younger sibling myself, it's hard to know what to feel about an older sibling that'd kill me if ordered. Like, that's sort of a hard thing to swallow. I still think he's a good character, but that is one area which can be a sticking point for me personally, especially depending on how you view corrin as a self-insert (easier not to these days now that they're not the most recent one)

And that's completely valid and understandable! No one has to like or pretend to like a character, or even share the same opinion on them as I or others would. Part of healthy discussion is accepting feelings like these, and recognizing that not everything is a matter of convincing people, and that everyone comes from someplace different.

It's brave to share this with me and others, thank you for being vulnerable.

Yeah Fire Emblem Echoes is one of the games in particular effected worse than other games due to flaws in the cartridge. The Reddit links to a website that gives an option has the best chances of fixing your Echoes issue. Here’s the games known for this:

  • Persona Q
  • Pokemon X and Y
  • Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire
  • Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
  • Mario Kart 7
  • Fire Emblem Echoes
  • Fire Emblem Fates

Suffer this the worst and are the most prone to failing.

Thank you dearly for the heads up. If I can fix my Echoes cartridge (and at this point probably my Fates cartridge as well) that's all the better.

Who are your favorite characters in FE8?

Eirika and Ephraim are peak protags I love them and their respective arcs

Innes is such a fuckhead, he's hilarious and I cherish him

L'Arachel is the person that everyone should aspire to be

Seth is a great deputy and I love his supports with Eirka as well as how OP he is; the three trainees are pretty fun characters and I don't find them as obnoxious to train as others in the series; Lute is really fucking funny and just a splendid mage to have around at all times; Joshua is just the right amount of charming and serious when he needs to be; I'm gay so I'm legally obligated to love Garcia, Gilliam, Duessel and Gerik; I also really like Tethys and Myrrh a good deal.

FE8 also has great villains that back up how they're built up in the story. Caellach and Valter are great and it's awesome getting to put them in their places, Lyon is one of the best written antagonists in the series IMO, and while Riev and Fomortiis are pretty one-note, they still have presence that I can respect.

Sacred Stones just has a really GOATed cast in general

Thanks for the ask!

Playing Silver Snow Part 2

-Top two are Japanese, bottom two are English.

Treehouse was still in its "can't say gay" era here, I guess.

-One of the few major positives left of playing Silver Snow and 3H in general is hearing Billy Kametz as Ferdie again, he really did a stellar performance.

That said, part of that stellar performance is how magnanimous and charming he sounds, when Ferdie is apparently supposed to come off as arrogant? Idk if it's different in the JP version, but if they wanted that characterization in the English version, they really dropped the ball.

-In contrast, I'm sorry to say, but I really don't like Ben Diskin's performance as Caspar. I find it just... very grating and annoying. It does fit the character, but it doesn't develop alongside Caspar once you hit the timeskip, and it's particularly irritating to me.

He's fucking great as Lorenz though, as well as Saizo and Jakob. I even enjoy some of his Hayato lines despite it being the same kind of voice as Caspar. It's just the blue haired freak specifically that grinds my gears in multiple ways that makes the performance not hit.

-God Hapi is such a terrible character, I really cannot fathom how people find her writing to be acceptable, much less enjoyable

Yes, we get it, you hate the fact that people treat you badly because of something you can't control. And it's understood that your trauma from surviving experimentation is apparent.

But for fuck's sake, the fact that the resulting gimmick from her is summoning fucking monsters that would kill many people in a short time frame just from one of her sighs is why her writing is terrible.

You can't expect me to take her self-absored, 'woe is me' schtick seriously when the writers did something as ridiculous as tie her condition to monsters. There's nothing relatable or understandable when the character crosses into this level of absurdity anymore, it's just fucking dumb.

And this is the same fanbase that loves to decry Fates' and Engage's casts for being one note gimmicks. At least those characters made sense!

So if there’s any games you haven’t played in awhile I suggest putting them in the Switch/3DS for a 5 or more minutes. Turns out they stop working over time if they aren’t.

https://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/s/sHwFh4z79K

Yeah unfortunately that's what happened to my FE Echoes cartridge. I can't even beat it anymore cuz it stops working during the end credits :/

My 3ds itself barely works but it's still worth it to keep my games intact. I wish Nintendo was better at making stuff so these things didn't happen.

One of my favorite fates lines is when you fight Hinoka with Corrin in chapter... 11 I think? Something to the affect of "You're right in front of me but we couldn't be further apart."

It's really sad seeing her face to face with her long lost sibling, the one she's been fighting so hard to meet again, but they're on opposite sides of a war. I'm sure she's happy they're alive, but it's so bittersweet for her.

YES YES YES I love that line too!! It's tragic and gripping and sad! She trained her whole life for one single purpose, yet the person who that purpose was meant for is still a person at the end of the day. Corrin is capable of making their independent choices, and Hinoka had to come to terms with that. But she's allowed to be bitter and blunt with it!

Conquest Hinoka is such a fucking underrated character within the structure of Fates' story, especially since she's allowed to be frustrated and angry with Corrin and Nohr. She's allowed to have complex feelings! She's put into a position as queen that she never expected to have passed to her!

It sucks that Hinoka is more known for her comparable absence in BR and Rev than for her extremely well done presence in CQ, and it doubly sucks that her legendary form in FEH is explicitly her Conquest self and they did FUCKING NOTHING WITH HER REGARDING IT RAAAAAAAH

I want to put her under a microscope so bad Conquest Hinoka my beloved

"The tragedy of Xander's character is not that he was actually an amazingly perfect and virtuous guy, it's that he has the capacity to be someone better, but always needs a push because of his circumstances and mentality." UGH YES

You put into words so well one of my favourite ways to make a tragic character. I love see characters who have failure baked into them. Weakness and fear that leads to tragedy is so so wonderful in a story! Crunchy and delicious!

I think too part of why Xander is disliked can also be moralizing about characters, and failure to see a character as a character in a story. Not a real person. A good character must be consistent with the world, the themes, and the character themself. They can do atrocious things and still be a great character so long as they mesh with the world and themes.

And Xander does great with the theme of the Nohr sibs as abuse victims! He also does great with the theme of loyalty and familial obligation vs justice and duty to the people! And the theme of blind loyal leading to tragedy!

I only played the much derided treehouse translation and sometimes I wonder if people played the same game as me. It was a competently written game. Def had moments of weakness, especially with the deeprealm stuff (they could've integrated that better) but the story itself groks well with the worldbuilding and themes. It's fine. It's literally fine.

Exactly! Trying to moralize too much about fictional characters in accordance with our real situation ends up just obscuring what is actually presented in the story where they come from; the narrative and personalities that were written into their 1s and 0s.

People try to kill two birds with one stone with certain types of critique, when in all honesty? Criticism of a character within the context of their story and criticism of the context itself are, while related, two separate things.

And I agree with what you say! In my own words, the actual building blocks of Fates' story and structure could use some polishing or remodeling. But the characters, relationships and plot threads within that structure make sense.

Thanks for the reply. I liked Conquest in terms of cast and the maps more than Birthright, its just a downer that I could never really shake the feeling off of making the wrong choice. Especially since its so one sided, Hoshido is a purely good and noble kingdom while everything we see of Nohr is pure evil. In 3H it felt more even, Adrestia is the conquering empire in the game, but in the backstory it was the heroic faction that could only fall because Rhea abandoned it. With Nohr there is just no sense of it being anything other than evil until Xander takes over and even then it does not feel worth siding with them.

3H of course has its own can of worms and is too overly ambitious, but I like that there is a better sense of why things are the way they are. It never feels like there are good people in Nohr outside of some of the retainers though, they are likable people who still follow orders without crossing the thought of rebellion until its convenient. Revalation exists but overall I think Fates would have benefited from Conquest being more like Silver Snow.

It's perfectly fine to have dissenting opinions on it. I don't agree, and I think polishing what we have with Conquest rather than rewriting the whole thing from the ground up is a better assessment, but to each their own.

Regardless, it's good to know that I can count on most of my anons being kind while disagreeing with me.

This is 100% not about Fire Emblem, but I feel like I need a sanity check from another progressive. People are using "say her name" for Renee Good, who is definitely not being ignored, whose name is everywhere. So on the one hand, I do 100% agree that using a hashtag that was made for and by black women, who historically get no media attention when they're brutalized and disappeared, is in really poor taste and shouldn't be done. On the other hand though...I kind of feel like a lot of the outrage about it is manufactured. Like. Fed posting, rather than actual black folks being upset by it. Maybe I'm just wary because of how things are right now and how historically the government has used grievances to sow division, but I feel like we should be trying to come together as a unit and trying to find momentum in the wake of a tragedy rather than having petty arguments over a hashtag. I just don't feel like that is really the best use of our time right now. That's like... something to be hashed out after the dust has settled, you know?

I'm gonna try and be as sensitive as I can because I don't want to jump the gun and be aggressive.

On a level, yes, I can understand feeling like that when the tragedy is still so fresh. To some, it can seem stifling and annoying and restrictive when people seem to be policing language regarding something so awful.

But I think feeling annoyance and frustration on that stuff is a bearable issue, and is one that, for lack of better words, you're best just enduring.

You're aware of why the hashtag and saying exists. Hell, the fact that anyone across the nation is aware of Good's name or even what happened in Minnesota is proof of an instance that just is not afforded to Black women when these types of tragedies happen to them at an exponentially higher rate. You have more sensitivity and awareness than a lot of others as it is.

So again, just endure it. People are expressing frustration at very entrenched systemic issues and people's comparable lack of fucks to give when Black women specifically are the victimized party. It's policies and centuries of oppression and abuse towards Black people and other minorities that led to the death of Renee Good. Moments like these where people feel forced to look at the destruction, are moments that must be used to bring clarity and reality, and that includes the mechanisms at play and the people in power who perpetuate them.

And I'd try not to claim it's manufactured. It's not, trust me. We really are upset that things we use to spread awareness to counter a racist media sphere get co-opted, even as we recognize the tragedies themselves. It's not because we want special treatment or attention or want to demoralize anyone; what we want is the humanity that we never feel afforded to have in this country and others, when compared to other citizens.

It’s been a rough couple days here in the real world and I don’t see it getting any better; how are you holding up?

I just had one of my regular therapy appointments, and what it came down to when I brought up world events is to not let it consume the entirety of my life, as it would be despairing and eroding to my mental state.

And that's partly because my personal life has been very, very good. Between work and now starting my last semester of school, as well as other achievements, I'm in a very good spot. So part of me was like "should I feel good about myself when others are suffering so much"

Venting those feelings allows me to come to the conclusion that people are multifaceted, and I don't have to shrink my joy to recognize and bring awareness to tragedy.

Thanks for the ask!

I know no one really votes for Fates characters anymore but with CYL 10 coming can we please try and get Brave Azura? I don't have a meta reason I just like Azura. Or Brave Heroes!Anna so she's less shit? Or Brave Heroes!Anna to match the other two :).

Of course knowing this fandom we're going to somehow meme our way into Brave Rune or Brave Fimbulvetr but like por que no los dos

Azura was third last year, even above Ivy, so while I wouldn't be complacenet, I think she's a pretty safe bet!

I'd like to see her win too, it's been almost 2 years since she got anything.

As a sapphic I think gacha games are a double-edged swords. You are right in alot of your criticisms but at the same time its also one of the few mediums in which female characters dominate and make-centrism is less prevalent. Especially in Hoyo where there is alot of sapphic subtext and a strong emphasis on female relationships. This is something that does not really exist in most other genres where screen presence and importance is mostla distributed to men. Its also why I cringe when people make a lack of male characters their biggest issue in gacha. There is already a plenty of other games that center men. For all the baggage and sexualization these games come with, maybe its good to have less male characters for once. there is a reason for alot of sapphics being drawn to gachas.

That's a good argument! I'd counter with the idea that female characters are often more present in order to appeal to a certain subsection of men, but your point is undeniable that there is just plainly more women present in gacha games than men. And it's a consistent disparity that I hope will become more of a positive awareness than anything seedy or cheap going forward.

re: Fates story / supports dialogue, is there any chance that examining the files manually in Paragon could be a viable alternative to F*ndom?

Speaking as an (extremely) amateur Fates modder, basically, what needs to be done would be:

  • Unpacking and uploading the roms to a computer (if you already have a legitimate copy on a 3DS) / finding the rom somewhere on the high seas (if you catch my drift). For the latter, JP, NA, EU and Taiwan versions are all out there somewhere. (I'd provide clearer directions, but the site I got the files from has already been taken down at least once and I'd rather not risk drawing attention to it again.)
  • Extract the romfs - for emulators, Citra has that functionality if you right click the game. Meanwhile I'm 99% sure there are guides on how to dump files from an actual 3DS out there, because Fates modding was already a thing since before the international release (e.g. the unofficial translation mod). IIRC ctrtool is needed, there are step by step guides out there that explain the process better than I ever could.
  • Install Citra on your computer and create a new project using the extracted romfs, they support multiple languages so pick whichever one applies to your game.
  • Inside Citra, under Core Data, the Chapter tab allows you to edit chapter dialogue along with a whole bunch of other stuff. Which means viewing all the dialogue, including for paralogues and even the amiibo battles. It doesn't include the DLC content at base unfortunately, you'll have to hunt that down yourself.
  • For supports / My Castle dialogue, go to the Character tab instead. There should be a subtab for supports and another for MC / Event lines.
  • As a note, the dialogue is formatted with all the required commands within the tab, so it's definitely not as readable as, say, someone copying the visible text ingame out, but it should be pretty obvious what's part of the dialogue and what isn't.
  • There's even a Portraits tab if you want to rip the official portraits for any given reason, the kids' and Corrin's hair colours can even be customised.

Basically Paragon is the GOAT. It's the foundation for the vast majority of Fates mods, such as UGF and Playable Lilith, albeit usually it needs to be supplemented with other tools if changes to the code / new material e.g. textures, models are needed. But for someone who just wants to look at vanilla game files, it gives you practically everything you could ask for. (Except the DLC, but that one's probably harder to work in.)

Also, any comprehensive alternative to Fandom is always a blessing. Fuck Fandom.

(Admittedly this anon knows nothing about the creator Thane's personal politics and would prefer it stay that way, so IDK if they're problematic. Either way, they still created an incredibly useful tool that is very, very much appreciated by anyone trying to get into modding Fates. We're already here talking about Fates and examining it as a labour of love, we of all people should be used to dealing with insanely problematic shit and finding something to love in it.)

More power to you if that's the case!

I don't have the space on my computer currently, but maybe someday I'll do some upgrades
