Empyrean Series: Fourth Wing/Iron Flame

Hi all who are still here! My last post was in 2022, so I'm very impressed if you're still around :) I only make lookbooks nowadays if I'm truly inspired and the time has finally come. 

I read the first two available books (Fourth Wing and Iron Flame) in the Empyrean series by Rebecca Yarros so quickly and am still so obsessed.  If you are a fan of fantasy and steamy content, I wholeheartedly recommend this series. I used a lot of harnesses/buckles in place of knife sheaths and video game outfit conversions for this lookbook and I look forward to dedicated cc once the Amazon Prime show debuts :)

Rocky Horror Picture Show Lookbook

This lookbook features most of the eccentric cast of Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). The cult classic follows newly engaged and innocent couple Janet (Susan Sarandon) and Brad (Barry Bostwick) who find themselves lost with a flat tire on a rainy night. Looking for a phone, the couple walks to a nearby castle where musical hijinks ensue.

The castle is hosting the 'Annual Transylvanian Convention' and they meet Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry) and his household staff: Riff Raff (Richard O'Brien), Magenta (Patricia Quinn) and Columbia (Nell Campbell). Dr. Frank-N-Furter soon reveals he has discovered "the secret to life itself " - his creation: a man  blonde hair, with a tan Rocky (Rayner Bourton). During the Rocky celebration, Eddie (Meatloaf) bursts out of the deep freeze on a motorcycle. I won't ruin the rest of the movie if you haven't seen it, but it is a ridiculous/scandalous time. 

The movie did not do well with critics initially, but it soon became a midnight movie in NYC in 1976. Actors dress as the cast act out the movie in front of the big screen, fans dress up, yell and throw things at appropriate times during the show. Midnight showings still happen all over and I went once in Santa Monica and Barry Bostwick was the special guest! There were also a pair of his movie tidy whities in plexiglass in the theatre lobby that he signed 😂

Two Tim Burton Duos Lookbook + Two Recolors!

I've been enjoying making movie recreations lately and since it's Simblreen, why not do some Tim Burton movies?! I created Jack Skellington and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and Lydia Deetz and Beetlejuice from Beetlejuice (1988).

Back when we were allowed to gather in large groups/go to concerts, I went to a live performance of the Nightmare Before Christmas at the Hollywood Bowl...where I dressed up as Beetlejuice. The movie plays on a projector, Danny Elfman conducts a full orchestra (and sings Jack!) and the original cast shows up to sing their songs...it's a fun time!

Moulin Rouge! Lookbook

I wanted to keep the Baz Luhrmann train going, so I present to you: Harold, Satine, Nini and Christian from Moulin Rouge! (2001)

The film tells the story of a young poet/writer, Christian (Ewan McGregor), who falls in love with the star of the Moulin Rouge, cabaret actress and courtesan Satine (Nicole Kidman) set in Paris in 1899.

Decade Lookbook: 1910's Part 2

Fashion from 1910 to 1919 in the Western world was characterized by great opulence in the first half of the decade-- a stark contrast with the somber practicality of garments worn during the Great War, or WWI.

Men's pants were worn cuffed to ankle-length and creased. Skirts rose from floor length to well above the ankle and women began to bob their hair.

Romeo + Juliet Lookbook

This lookbook is is based on Baz Luhrmann's 1996 Romeo + Juliet which featured a star-studded cast including Claire Danes, Leonardo DiCaprio, John Leguizamo and Harold Perrineau.

The movie kept the original Shakespeare text, but the Montagues and Capulets became warring mob families with legitimate business fronts, swords became guns, and fair Verona became Verona Beach, based on Venice Beach.

This soundtrack is still one of my favorite movie soundtracks but for some reason they left out my favorite song! 90's movies used to release basically mixtapes as soundtracks and they were amazing! (I also recommend the Cruel Intentions soundtrack....just the soundtrack; the movie hasn't aged well)

Brazilian Lookbook - Carnival

Before I went on a hiatus, I did a series of cultural lookbooks and someone requested a Brazilian lookbook that I never got around to. So for this lookbook I decided to focus on looks you'd see at the Carnival of Brazil.

Carnival is held annually between the Friday afternoon before Ash Wednesday at noon, which marks the beginning of Lent, the forty-day period before Easter. During Lent, Roman Catholics and some other Christians traditionally abstained from eating meat and poultry, hence the term "carnival", from carnelevare, "to remove (literally, "raise") meat. Carnival is the most popular holiday in Brazil and has become an event of huge proportions. The country unifies completely for almost a week and festivities are intense, day and night, mainly in coastal cities. Rio de Janeiro's carnival alone drew 4.9 million people in 2011, with 400,000 being foreigners.

Decades Lookbook: 1990's Part 2

This 1990's lookbook focuses on the styles that dominated the decade: preppy, hip hop, grunge and raver/punk.

I took major inspiration from 90's icons Mel B of the Spice Girls and Aaliyah, as well as Gwyneth Paltrow, the Chanel Spring 1995 Collection, and fictional icons: Angela Chase and Jordan Catalano from My So-Called Life and Cher Horowitz from Clueless.

Decades Lookbook: 1920's Part 2

Twenties fashion is often remembered for its glitz and glamour, though underlying this was a move toward simplicity in dress. For women, this meant shorter skirts and simple shapes, while men enjoyed casual suits.

This is my 2nd 1920's lookbook and my first one is one of my favorite lookbooks to date! I tried not to reuse cc but some shoes and accessories maaaay have been recycled.

Decades Lookbook: 1980's Part 2

The 1980's were the decade for designer denim, sweaters, work out attire, power suits, big hair, and color-coordinating accessories. For those who strayed from the mainstream, the 80's also featured a post-punk gothic style that carried on from the 70′s which featured jean/leather jackets attached with safety pins, patches, buttons and odd pieces of fabric.

Private Dancer - Tina Turner Lookbook

I saw this dress and obviously had to create a quick Tina Turner!

Tina Turner is known as the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll and rose to fame as part of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue before her successful career as a solo performer. She is known for her energetic stage presence, powerful vocals, trademark legs(!), and career longevity. Some of her notable songs with Ike Turner are River Deep – Mountain High and Creedence Clearwater Revival cover Proud Mary and solo: What's Love Got to Do With It and Private Dancer.

Tina debuted this dress in the early 70's with Proud Mary but continued to wear it into the 80's, hence the big hair choice.

Decades Lookbook: The 1890's

The 1890′s were a transitional decade from the stiff Victorian Era to a brand new century. Urban centers were growing, and new technologies, such as the introduction of electricity into clothing manufacturing, produced a boom in the ready-to-wear market.

The “New Woman” of the era was an intellectual young woman who worked, cycled, and played sports. She wore skirts that were bell shaped and large sleeves called leg-o-mutton or gigot sleeves. Around 1897, the silhouette began to slowly shift with the introduction of the straight-front corset.

This lookbook is basically an homage to @vintagesimstress and @gilded-ghosts with a liiiittle @linzlu sprinkled on top. If you've wanted to start the decade challenge, look no further than these amazing creators!

Decades Lookbook: 1950's Part 2

Halfway through the 20th century, the social climate in the United States of America was oddly conservative and rebellious at the same time.

Fashion trends for women included tea length swing dresses with petticoats, slim sheath dresses, pencil and circle skirts (poodle skirts for teens), Capri pants, high-waisted jeans, and Peter Pan collar blouses. These outfits were worn with kitten or stiletto heels or saddle shoes and accessorized with small hats, scarves, hair flowers, pearls, gloves and/or brooches.

Masculine fashion trends included Letterman jackets, blue jeans, bowling shirts, slim fitting suits, skinny ties and leather jackets.

Two of my sims were based on Lucille Ball/Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Page/fictional Wanda Woodward from 'Cry Baby'.

To be honest, I'm not super happy with my first 1950's lookbook...but I really like this one and I hope ya'll do too!

Hamilton: The American Musical Lookbook

Like a lot of people, I was pretty obsessed with Hamilton in 2016. I was fortunate to see the show live in Los Angeles in 2017 (Emmy Raver-Lampman played Angelica!) and have watched it probably 7 times since the film dropped. I didn’t create the full cast because this lookbook is gigantic already, but you can easily make Aaron Burr, John Laurens/Philip, and Hercules Mulligan/James Madison out of these outfits too. For George Washington, just add a sash and a hat to the 18th Century Army uniform, as seen on Lafayette.
