I liked the first knives out. I honestly barely remember the second movie but I know I thought some parts were fun even though it had that netflix stink. this third one was just bizarre. it was somehow both didactic with all these caricatures of far-right assholes but also had no meaningful commentary to offer about any of them, and the rube goldberg-ass mystery was not worth two hours' worth of setup!!

i literally cant stop thinking of this screenshot like i never considered this 2 be something that happens it rlly changed my perspective

I do love feeling #humbled when I learn more about some tiny complex thing that I've been taking for granted my whole life... one of our window latches is kinda fucked up and I pinched my thumb trying to wrestle it back into place, but in the process I learned how this type of sliding window latch even works (or is supposed to work when it's not busted) and I'm like, this is a miracle of engineering and design. pinched thumb or otherwise

all of these people drinking methylene blue:

There is a glut of petroleum, snd electrification has rendered it increasingly a stranded asset. Insofar as the US is committing an imperial expedition for oil, they are engaging in cargo-cult imperialism, out of touch with current economic interests

This has been frustrating me every time I've seen that argument for years now, about Venezuela and Gaza and Iran and everywhere else people have brought up oil as a key motivating feature of imperialist violence. Oil is still very important, obviously, but it is no longer the singular defining commodity of global power it once was, that bubble has been shrinking and faltering for many years now, and if I know that then the actual economists and politicians and warmongers making these decisions sure as hell know it.

As an earlier post put it, suggesting that the material benefits of taking the oil are the sole motivating factor is an overly rigid kind of materialism which neglects the political value of the action in itself, propaganda of the deed on an international scale. The oil is a symbol, they're not just taking it because they want it in itself (although of course they very much do), it's a trophy - this has always been Spectacle for the US, we knew that from the first televised drone murder, a performance of imperialist power to maintain the image of dominance, they don't just want the oil but to demonstrate that they can take it with impunity, what that control represents being just as important as the control itself.

Where'd The Cum Go?

the world may never know...

brother’s friend’s kid came up to me and asked if I’ve ever played smash bros. nah never let’s play it on your switch little guy

still getting through heated rivalry. the two main boys are going at it, finish, and then noelle turns to me and utters the scariest words I've ever heard her say, which are: Where'd The Cum Go?

the show I’ve actually been sucked into lately is deadwood which might be why I have a harsher eye than usual towards like plot and character shit lol. going from a show that’s tightly-written but definitely not sparse and has a huge ensemble cast is lowering my patience for any writing where half of it is just characters saying “I’m mad at you” to each other. (I don’t think pluribus was an offender in that department but you know what I mean.) and ironically I think the original show was a great example of not having characters address each other by name all the time unless it’s for a plausible or interesting reason, but then the movie (which we just watched last night lol) was totally doing the name thing at parts. and I get it because you’ll have new viewers who don’t know who these characters are, and half of them look old as shit compared to the show so explicitly putting names to faces doesn’t hurt. but still. I can’t stop noticing it now…

more television posting: my annoying bitch opinion is that pluribus was good but not great (I think it would've been better if it were like seven episodes instead of nine) but I'm also kinda chafing at these viewer interpretations that try to locate a really cut-and-dry central metaphor or like, idk, moral assessment of the whole situation. partly because I think this just might not be that kind of story but mostly because it's clearly not over yet. maybe It Depends and/or Why Don't We Wait and See
