GITM is a sub-fandom of a sub-fandom, yet remains one of the most active creative hubs I’ve ever seen in relation to its size. There are just over a thousand people in the server, most of which are lurking, yet the chats are constantly in use. There’s usually at least a handful of people in the VCs at all times. It’s rarely quiet.
This includes the creative spaces. The art channels have new content every day. Drabbles and fanfics are often written and uploaded for others to enjoy. There’s even channels specifically for animations, videos, voice recordings, music, crafts, cosplays, theories, character studies, and more. It is a massive archive of creative endeavors over years worth of time, from people who love their craft and the writing it was based on. GITM itself is still being actively created, with new chapters being uploaded usually monthly.
There is absolutely no reason, under any circumstance, that AI should ever be needed in a space like this.
If something cannot create, it should not be allowed in creative spaces. AI does not have that ability. When you put other people’s writing into an AI, it is not creating something new from that input. What it’s doing is using that writing with other writing and mashing it together. That’s not creation, it’s regurgitation. In most cases, all the art used to “teach” an AI is stolen and used without the knowledge or consent of the creator. You are stealing.
It’s a violation of trust, plain and simple. Artists and authors should not have to constantly ask their communities to not steal from them. No one should have to ask that, it’s basic respect.
If you are that desperate for content, you have got to learn to create it yourself. It doesn’t matter how poor quality you think it is, learning is a step everyone goes through. If you are not proud of your skills in something, the best thing to do is teach yourself. AI will never be able to teach you something it can’t do itself.
The GITM community is also one of the best places to do so. It is incredibly welcoming and kind. Advice is easily accessible and progression is often praised. If you have a question about a character or chapter, it’s usually answered quickly. Qwille often answers them themself. It doesn’t matter what your medium is, there is always someone who will enjoy what you make.
Going to an AI to show interest in something instead of an already existing community is just baffling, especially when said community is vocally against it. Please, respect people’s boundaries. Stop using AI.
