Fallout Concept Art

Official Concept art for the Fallout series NOTHING POSTED HERE IS FAN ART

Hello, as there seems to be a semi-reoccuring issue with folks confused about artist credits on this blog I wanted to clarify a few things.

First, please note that on my other blogs, almost every concept art piece or 3D render from game developnent has artist credits listed. I work very hard confirming artist attribution (if known) for everything that gets posted here and the other blogs I run.

This blog (unfortunately) usually does not have artist credits listed under most posts.

Why is that you may ask?

Unfortunately, FromSoftware doesn't seem to like to credit artists directly for most concept art from their games. To be fair, most of their artists seem private as well and dont seem to post much of anything online about specific pieces they worked on.

The best we can get for giving actual artist attribution is the hope Miyazaki or one of the other game leads mentioning in interviews that "X person" worked on the demons etc. This is how we know Hiroshi Nakamura made alot of the Demons for Dark Souls 1, since Miyazaki directly mentions them as being responsible for those designs.

Alternatively if the artist (eg. Michael Chang for Dark Souls 1 and 2) posts their art directly to their Artstation portfolio (This is rare and Michael Chang is also no longer with FromSoft)

Most things posted on this blog come from scans of the games' artbooks already.

Simply labeling the artbook as the artist does not qualify as crediting the artist. The artbooks dont credit specific artists for anything beyond generic credits like "Environmental artist" and "Character artist" etc. They do not list artist credits under any of the pieces, they just generically list artists on the credits pages.

I encourage you all to check the artbooks for Fromsoft games, they dont specifically credit individual artists for pieces, so we cant rely on them for credits beyond generically listing things like "art lead" and "environment artist".

Neither of those credits tell us *what* was worked on and by *who* specifically. That is why for Fromsoft games we often have to cite "artist Unknown" since Fromsoft usually doesn't give specific credit for anything nor do they seem very interested in doing so.

Fromsoft is a very closed and private company so we fans often have to dig and scrounge for evidence of who did what

Even for some designs, when im 80% certain a certain piece was done by a specific artist, im still cautious in listing them definitively as the credited creator.

In such cases I write "Art likely by X" but this should be viewed with caution. Misattributing artist credits is absolutely not something I want or try to do
