I've received a lot of good suggestions for more variants but can't keep up with them all, so here are some resources to make it easier to make your own.
PSD for easily editable text (there is a color fill layer for adding a bit of white where the stroke doesn't cover small holes. I recommend cropping excess empty space out before exporting as PNG)
and here are PNGs of the kudos button for any other editing needs, with and without white stroke:
Use your favorite image host, copy the direct image link, insert it between the quotation marks in the code, add alt text, and you're ready!

And throughout it all was the constant, heated flirting. The circular ebb and flow of their tidal teasing, stopping just as they got too close and retreating again.

Scully arched an eyebrow at him.
"You know it's true,"he said placidly.
Post-Tithonus Scully, war-torn and discouraged, joins Mulder and other FBI teams to halt a suspected paramilitary group.
There were true believers. There were Max Fenigs and Cassandra Spenders. Tremulous and fragile, susceptible to being sucked into cults.
There were conspiracists. Underground groups operating on the fringes that communicated via mimeographed pamphlets and old school mailing lists.
The New Spartans were neither.
AU-- A retelling of Season 5's events leading up to The Pine Bluff Variant: Scully wants her own answers, and Mulder is pulled away through forced secrecy.
The prisoners were shoved without ceremony into the backseat of one of the Taurus pursuit vehicles. Their cuffs were tied with clothesline to each other's and then their seatbelts were used to fasten them into their seats.
"Y' think the Assistant Director'll dock our pay when we don't show up at that stupid meeting tomorrow morning?" Mulder asked his partner.
She sighed, knowing what he was trying to do. "Probably," she agreed. "Not that I'll be sorry to miss another budget meeting."
"That goes without saying," he agreed.
AU-- Post-S. R. 819 Mulder and Scully discover a black oil cult while on Kersh detail.
Wiping at her cheeks furiously, Scully blinked rapidly to clear her vision, to make sure what she was seeing was real. To her relief and dismay, the man under the stairs, the person whose breathing was unnatural to the point of frightening, was Mulder.
His face was turned towards the light from her flashlight but his eyes stayed closed. He was naked except for his boxers, but his torso was so covered in mud and dirt and (Scully flinched upon noticing) blood, that she could barely make out his skin beneath. His hands were tied in front of his body with a thin, crude-looking rope, as were his ankles. A gash cut across his forehead.
She couldn’t remember ever seeing him look so . . . lifeless.
S6 Mulder vanishes into the woods; and Scully, a non-believer in his supernatural cult theory, treks out to find him.

The irony of “Dead Dove: Don’t Eat” becoming a widely known tag is that people have started using it without also tagging what specifically to expect. It’s become shorthand for “dark shit” but the vagueness is the opposite of what the tag is meant for. You have put an unmarked brown bag in front of me with a wink and a nudge, and you’re about to get real defensive when I open it and start complaining about contents that were not written out in plain text
Exactly! "dead dove do not eat" did not come into existence to mean “dark”, it came into existence to mean “read the warnings and take them seriously.”
You can put whatever you want in the tin, but you need to MARK THOSE INGREDIENTS ON THE TIN, that is the whole point!
