so, did Gast move between Banora and Nibelheim for both projects and after G fell through he just stayed in Nibelheim? or was it he originally stayed in Banora then after G fell through he stayed in Nibelheim??? might be a very stupid question but I always though both projects started at the same time so idk

I also wonder if Genesis's parents (or at least one of them) was a scientist working on Project G or if they just paid someone, idk

another thing, do we even know what Project S stands for?? is it Project Sephiroth or something like that???

Project G came first, failed, and Gast moved on to Project S—Genesis is older than Seph by at least a year. EC has stated that Angeal is also older than Seph, which is a retcon from the timeline established in CC, but gives us a timeframe nonetheless. Gast probably did some traveling back and forth between the two locations during the overlapping end of G and beginning of S, leaving the majority of breakdown and setup (respectively) to his research assistants on the two projects. This is what research assistants are for, to be fair, and the differing methods between the two wings of the project were conceptualized by those same assistants—Project G was Gillian's brainchild and Project S was Hojo's, with Hollander and Lucrecia serving as secondaries.

My theory on Genesis' parentage is that he was the result of more careful breeding than the other two, which was seen as maybe being part of the issue. We know he got genes from Gillian (not cells, the word used is analogous with "genes" even in Japanese), but she's not technically his mother; Hollander indicates that this extra degree of separation was assumed to be why he was born "normal" and thus dubbed a failure, while Angeal is Gillian's biological son and is the closest thing to a true duplicate of Jenova itself that anyone has ever seen.

Based on real-world scientific methods, Genesis was probably originally produced in a test tube and then transplanted into a host mother to gestate; my headcanon has always been that said host mother was the same person who gave birth to Weiss and Nero, given that Usher refers to her in Dirge PlayOnline as having been "a fantastic producer," which I don't think would really be appropriate to say of someone who successfully had a total of two science project babies. My Genesis' biological father is Veld of the Turks, although he never finds out and wasn't actually personally involved—samples were taken during a "routine physical examination" so Gast that could use him as breeding stock. (My headcanon also says this was the same thing he intended to do with Vincent, but things didn't end up going that way because What The Fuck Lucrecia.)

As for Project S, we don't actually know what the S stands for! However, going by the previous Jenova Project being Project Gillian, with Gillian serving as the lead assistant, we can assume this is the first initial of Hojo's given name.

so I am LOSING my mind over the whole timeline involving Gast, Jenova, Sephiroth, Genesis, and Angeal. (I have so many tabs open trying to figure this out it's not even funny) and I noticed you seem to have a good grasp on these things, so do you think you could tell me the timeline (and dates if possible) from the founding of Jenova to the birth of the 3 Firsts?? if not then dw just thought I'd ask

Sorry I'm getting to this so late, I fell into PowerWash Simulator 2 and Pokemon Legends ZA at the same time and was pretty much off tumblr save for random spurts late at night.

There are multiple "official" timelines according to meta, but in-game we have...two? Well, one, with a recent retcon, but we can work with it. (I don't subscribe to that particularly retcon in my fanfic etc., but it is mentioned directly in-game so it's undeniable at this point.)

The in-canon timeline as relevant to this topic goes something like this:

  • 1959: Jenova discovered*
  • 1967: Jenova interred in the first mako reactor, on Mt. Nibel
  • 1975-1976: Grimoire Valentine and Lucrecia Crescent take Chaos from the Nibel mountain range, Grimoire theorizes about using foreign energetic material to create something greater than human but chooses not to carry out the project, Grimoire dies in a lab accident caused by Lucrecia, Gast uses his theories to launch the Jenova Project
  • 1976: Genesis born, Jenova Project G declared a failure, Gast moves from the Howling Fang to Shinra Manor, Lucrecia transferred to Jenova Project S, Gillian leaves the company, Angeal born
  • 1977 (Fall-Winter): Vincent Valentine killed while working security on Project S
  • 1977 (Winter): Sephiroth born (probably on Christmas)
  • 1977 (Winter): Project Zero gets underway in what will eventually become DeepGround
  • 1983: Gast learns the truth about Jenova and flees the company
  • 1984: Hojo gets control of the department, Lucrecia flees to the mountains, Vincent interred under Shinra Manor
  • 1985 (February 7): Aerith born
  • 1985 (February 9): Gast killed by Hojo, Ifalna and infant Aerith taken into Shinra custody
  • 1985: Project Zero becomes SOLDIER thanks to Ifalna's "help," DeepGround proper comes into being
  • 1992: Ifalna dies escaping Shinra, Aerith taken in by Elmyra, Sephiroth starts field operations, the island nation of Rhadore is destroyed
  • 1992 (September): Sephiroth meets Angeal, acquires Masamune
  • 1997: Kalm burned down, Hojo experiments on survivors
  • 1997-1998: Zack enlists
  • 1999: Genesis injured
  • 2000: Genesis defects, Fort Tamblin assault takes place, Cloud enlists, Wutai War ends, calendar change takes place at the end of this year
  • 0001: Angeal dies in Modeoheim
  • 0002 (October): Nibelheim Incident takes place, Hojo experiments on survivors
  • 0006 (Winter): Zack and Cloud escape Nibelheim
  • 0007 (Fall): Genesis cured, Zack dies, Cloud reaches Midgar, Sephiroth starts calling for Reunion, Genesis taken to DeepGround and enters stasis
  • 0007 (Winter): The Crisis takes place, Aerith dies, Sephiroth returns to the world
  • 0008 (January 21): Meteorfall
  • 0009: The Remnant incident
  • 0010: The Omega incident, Genesis wakes up

Sometimes, the only way to expose how badly damaged things really are is by doing even more damage. This applies to both architecture and people.

The RTGT version of Shinra Manor! Not really to scale, but this is all four original levels, plus the roof. This time we've got the basement, and I think everything important is labeled clearly? I didn't label the staircases etc. on the third floor since it's pretty obvious where they go. These are all on the same backdrop, so you can click through and see how each level interacts with the ones below it.

Vincent's "office" is the biggest guest room on the ground floor, and the only one with a fireplace, but Cloud actually ends up in the guest room reserved for the biggest of bigwigs—that room has an attached space for an attendant, it's right next to a private dining room (with a skylight!) and is closest to the dumbwaiter to allow for food and other things to be sent up and down easily and often.

I tried to make it obvious that the path from the elevator to the basement space is "new" construction, it's got cleaner lines and sharper angles because it was carved out in the 1950s rather than being dug out around the late 19th century when the rest of the house was built.

First draft of the aboveground floorplan of Shinra Manor as it appears in RTGT, along with notes on two other fics that feature the facility.

I know this isn't what it looks like in-canon, but there are four different canonical floorplans for the thing and none of them are actually designed in a way that makes sense if it was originally designed for human habitation. The rooms are titled as what they were originally meant for when the building was a house rather than a research facility, rather than how they were actually used at most recently.

Obviously that's not actually how the shingle layout would look on the roof of a building this size, but I spent too long on it as it is so I'm done with that for now.

I forgot to label the laundry chute and didn't actually show the hidden door in the "storage room" that has basement access, but whatever. First draft is first draft. This also doesn't include the grounds or the basement, so it is what it is.

EDIT: I did this entirely freehand in CSP using vector layers.

Vincent and Cloud learn a little more about one another's pasts, and stumble upon two very different kinds of ghost.
