So! Unfortunately I don't think I have a specific song for swap au Owen, but what I do have is a song that I think could work for both canon and swap curtwen?
I think there's a chance that the end might fit swap curtwen ever so slightly better? :
Then for splatoon Owen I have one canon Off the Hook song with fanlyrics I really like and one song where you kind of have to be a bit insane about totkau Owen for it to work. Off the Hook song first:
If Sally Strings has no fans, I am dead. I think her Acid Hues lyrics are so so fun and cute, and I love them both as a canon pearlina song and for splatoon curtwen (plus the idea of Curt doing Pearl's raps in this is amusing to me. Go, you funky squid boy)
And then the slightly stranger but more Owen-centric one:
Okay now this is one of those situations where you add a song from a musical to a character playlist because it works if you just ignore all that incredibly specific stuff about the plot of the show. We're going off vibes we're having people sing to very different people stay with me here. We're uh. We're going to have to ignore everything about fatherhood here. Basically the idea of this is that The Tide Is Comin' In is about building a happy and fulfilling life with the people you love, but knowing that you're lying to them about a specific secret the whole time, and feeling that it's only a matter of time until they see through you and the truth comes out. Hence Splatoon Owen.
In the AMV in my head we're pretending this bit (above) is about writing a song or something.
The crucial bit is really towards the end though (but we get bits of this throughout the song!):
I imagine that the male strangers' part here could be Owen's own voice, but it's crucial to me that the female strangers' part is Tatiana's voice: the voice in the back of Owen's mind that reminds him of what he's hiding, of how fast things fall apart, of how quickly someone can disappear, is the voice of his lifelong best friend who he left behind.
I'm imagining the brief little instrumental after this as the two of them getting ready to go onstage, checking in with each other, hyping each other up, Owen acting like everything's fine, but there being a brief little shot of Curt looking concerned behind Owen's back - because he's really starting to notice there's something bothering him.
Then the final chorus coming back in is them performing on stage, the audience singing along, having a great time - and the final refrain where the music drops out is as they finish the song and the audience is cheering and applauding, but even in such a happy moment, Owen can't stop thinking of everything that's going to go wrong.
