For the Love of Horses

Hey I'm Noelle! I have a JD in Environmental Law and will soon be launching a flower farm. This blog is a combo of cute horsey pictures & information I find interesting. I also post pictures of my plants and pets. Amba is an 8 year old Arabian mare, Hadie & Toby are a mother/son pair of senior chihuahuas, & Stellina is a senior chihuahua mix.

We are living through the heaviest days of my life. I watch my children’s every breath with a heart shattered by fear. A ruthless virus is ravaging their small bodies, and we are left with nothing but patience and prayers amidst these merciless conditions.

My eldest son is suffering from severe inflammation and acute anemia. His frail body can no longer fight back. Meanwhile, my little daughter’s lungs can no longer endure the smoke from the fires we are forced to light for warmth; it has triggered chronic respiratory distress, making her a frequent patient in the hospital.

We live in a tent that offers no protection from the biting cold or our mounting pain. With a winter storm approaching, my fear grows that the freezing temperatures will claim what is left of their strength. I feel utterly helpless watching my children wither away, and all I seek is to provide them with the medicine and warmth they need before the illness and cold take them from me.

hyperlinked to some of the text above is Amal's family's fundraiser. it can also be found linked below:

PLEASE HELP ME TO REBUILD MY LIFE AND DREAM

Hello my friends,I am Ayoush from Gaza. You have supported me in the past to help my family, and support for my family is still available and ongoing, as they are in urgent need of your help and assistance.

But I also need your support to build a brighter future for myself.

During the war, I lost my job and my home. I lost my work as a crochet artist and my job as a teacher, so I am now in need of your help. Donations have become extremely limited, and I need to rely on myself and open a small, simple project that reflects who I am and my identity—

which is the art of crochet.I now need your support, and as an initial step, we need around $3,000 to $4,000 to start this project.

We need to build my dream together, hand in hand. You are the helping hand for me and for building my dream.

He’s cute, but he’s very pushy on the ground. Also he chomped 2 of my fingers when I pulled a crosstie out of his mouth. I think he was curious about one of my rings. 🙄 Next rainy day we’ll do some groundwork. I’m not sure if he’s just forgotten manners, or wasn’t really taught in the first place. He needs work with backing up, too. He gets away with a lot due to his size.

@reallydangerouscowboy probably not. He does have his hind right fetlock a little dropped, but it's been like that for over a decade and hasn't gotten progressively worse, and he receives no treatment or special shoeing for it. Titan was previously a rescue so his exact history is unknown, but it is most likely from a birth defect or old injury. I'd personally lean towards old injury because he has a way of lurching into a walk and trot from a standstill that is consistent with draft horses that do pulling competitions with very heavy weights, and a fetlock injury would not be surprising with that type of high strain activity.

When I first started riding him and asked if he had any limitations, the barn owner said none. In fact, she used to do hunter paces with him. I was quite surprised to hear that but they're apparently his favorite activity! He's not much of ring horse but he's happy to trot and canter while hacking, and has showed no soundness issues. I have some videos of him under saddle and you can see that he does not have the hip wobbling or stickiness usually seen in DSLD.

Russian Dons

Source: facebook.com

This is either an amazing example of a wild bay or a chestnut with an unnaturally dark mane n' tail. I'm not sure if the wild gene appears in Russian dons.

I tagged this horse as a chestnut, but perhaps it could also be a red dun if there’s a dorsal stripe the picture is hiding. I believe a wild bay would still have a dash of black on the tips of the ears and patterns/fetlocks. Chestnut seems to be the most common color of Russians Dons though, so I wouldn’t rule it out. The breed often has interesting sheens and tones to their coat due to the Akhal-Teke ancestry.

I believe true dun doesn't exist in Russian dons (tho my knowledge of the breeds is low, so anyone more in the know feel free to correct me), and even for a dun that would be extremely dark.

Their connection to Akhal-teke could make wild bay possible, as the gene is found in that breed (tho again I don't know if that has passed onto this one).

The wild gene does minimize black points, and in some cases can almost disappear completely with the help of pangaré (and that's another gene I'm unsure if it's carried by the breed or not).

They do come in red dun, but it is the rarest color.

Had a dream that I rescued a Clydesdale with DSLD named “Dallas” from a bad horse summer camp owner. 😆
