The Golden Rule (Fallout AU)

The alarm ripped you out of sleep like a claw to the throat. Red light flooded your apartment, harsh and blinking, painting the familiar metal walls in warning. The vault’s calm hum twisted into something shrill and urgent as the intercom crackled to life overhead.

“Attention all residents. Security breach detected. Please remain—”

You were already moving. You pulled on your boots, fingers fumbling with the zipper of your vault suit as the words ‘security breach’ echoed in your head. Your Pip-Boy blinked awake on your wrist, diagnostics scrolling too fast for your sleepy brain to process.

You stepped into the corridor, face pale and eyes wide. Then you heard it. Laughter. Not panicked. Not afraid.

Delighted.

Very Busy

His office was quiet as you entered, nothing but the sound of rustling papers every so often and the muffled bass of the club music emanating from the floor below. You closed the door behind you, then strode up to his desk with your hands clasped behind your back in false innocence.

“Hi, Silco,” you purred.

“Hello, darling,” he hummed, not looking up from his files. His voice was guarded. Fond, but distant. You knew better than to disturb him while he was working.

But right now, you just couldn't help it.

Right now, you needed him.

Home for Christmas (Part 2)

Things are bleak, the Christmas of your dreams fading away as each minute passes.

You try to do what Vi has instructed you to do. You sit on the couch with a chipped mug of hot cocoa, warming your hands. Home Alone plays on the TV only after Jinx has played Last Christmas on loop enough times that the opening synth makes your eye twitch, and yet Vi’s absence still lingers like a shadow stretched across the room.

It clings to the empty space beside you on the couch, to the jacket still hanging by the door, to the dent in the cushion where she always drops herself down after a long day. You can’t shake it. Can’t lose yourself in the movie, or the cocoa, or even Jinx’s running commentary about how she could “definitely booby-trap a house better than that kid.”
