it’s the holidays🎉🎉🎉 which means an excuse for me to whip my fic arsenal out and shamelessly self-promote a bit!! something something this holiday season is all about giving and all that so like if anyone wants to give and of these a read and leave a comment……….

She Waits In Ruin — Carpenter & the Cairn Maiden fic about grief, death and persistence of life<3 (written for tsv big bang!! check it out)

She Danced Until She Didn’t — a short fic about Val’s last moments (written for the absolutely gorgeous tsv zine)

Dead Star Daughter — another short one for Val lovers, this time about her creation. yay to the birth day of a dead girl:)

When the Tide Comes Home — Sibling Rane's doubt-ridden nightmare sequence featuring a family dinner with normal and regular household dynamics and body horror

Good Hunting — a fun gory slasher with Mercer&Gage's co-dependent siblingship at it's highest + a healthy helping of ptsd

Sacred and Terrible Tides — Carpenter character study with her grief-filled doomed siblingship with Faulkner

Sisters and Sacrifices — Faulkner having a normal one in his guilt-ridden nightmarescape (the sisters and sacrifices in question are Thurrocks and Carpenter)

Ranefall collection (17 whole fics!! yes i may have a problem so what… the menu has unhealthy relationship (spanning from blinding adoration to crippling resentment yayy), normal and regular power dynamics&struggles, and just so much religious imagery (everyone give it up for dehumanizing deification!!)

Scalpel, Body, Altar — a little departure from my tsvfiction—instead, a gospel of haven fic w religiously and erotically charged surgery!!

if i think for too long about how VAL's introduction to both the characters and the audience is a scene where she's demonstrably proven to be capable of using the power of a god to force people to believe her lies, and therefore it's reasonable to conclude that you shouldn't believe a word she says and consider yourself lucky if you can still exercise that judgement, rendering her with effectively zero nonviolent or noninvasive options to convince people to listen to her, i start to feel so sick i can't move. here's the power to make anyone believe you, which means that no one will ever actually believe you!

Hey. Stop for a second. Take this moment to appreciate that you don't have to write a paper right now. No one is asking you to write a paper. You don't have to think about the paper or plan your time around the paper. You have the freedom to think about whatever you want. Everything is going to be okay. At least you don't have to write a paper right now

so fascinated by those injuries where it’s better to leave a bullet where it’s lodged internally and let the body scar around it than risk doing more damage removing it. Romance

literally so important to have friends where you can be like "can i be insane for a second" and then you get to be insane. and they still like you afterwards

"If you saw somebody drowning, would you throw them a life preserver? Of course you would. You wouldn't think, you wouldn't wait, you wouldn't try to get consensus on it. You'd just throw it."

"So now I'm drowning?"

"You just don't know it."

some people still seem to be surprised by it (which is fair ngl), but Carpenter is not middle aged!! she is literally in her early thirties!!

She is 18 years old when she is working with Vaughan and meets Mason for the first time.

Vaughan leaves for college and then Mallory continues to work at Hoagies and consistently meet up with Mason for their talks.

It's not mentioned precisely how much time passes between their meeting and Mason's offer for Mallory to leave with him. I personally think she'd be around 18-19, maybe 20, when rejoining the Parish. Can't really imagine Mason sticking around in the city for much longer than that since he still had to rebuild the Gulch and all that.

Then Carpenter spends 13 years in the Parish (as she tells Faulkner in chapter 8).

Which should make her about 31-33 years old when the show starts.

thanks for coming to my ted talk o777 class adjourned
