ok after much procrastination here are some of my takes on the voices!!

and some little design notes below

Genuinely tragic to me that there's no truly happy ending with Nightmare. She gets free in almost all her routes, but she never gets understood. She's the Tender Heart. She's someone who was hurt, abandoned, left to save herself right in the moment she had hope that somebody could finally help her. We died of fright when we first saw her. She's convinced herself that she is fundamentally unlovable, and has committed herself to being a being of fear and torment. But she still initially approaches us with, at least somewhat, forgiveness. She's willing to put her hurt aside to be free, unlike Razor or Witch. Shifty straight up said that she desires only companionship. Which is why it frustrates me that there's no way to react to her with anything but fear and hatred. You can free her out of fear, or kill her and be possessed into freeing her, or kill her, be possessed, and then kill yourself to kill her with you, or you keep her trapped over and over again until she forces you to free her. She never receives kindness. She never receives understanding. She was damned the moment we set foot upon her route.

how it feels watching my friends play slay the princess

what if you stumble into a forest world wearing a forbidden "princess" tiara and a dangerous crow boy whose job it is to destroy princess becomes obsessed with you

I think a lot of you would fold in this scenario

Slaytober Day 6: The Fury

Fruits of today's livestream! Tony presented me with a Chapter 1 scenario and then challenged me to come up with Chapter 2 and 3 designs that would branch from it.

What if you went down unarmed and just told the Princess everything, and you managed to work together against the Narrator to get her out of the cabin earlier than any other route?

Similar to The Stranger, which would be its sister chapter, you are able to glean that she changes based on perception, where your own actions shape her. But instead of that going out of control like it does in The Stranger, you can try to work together to make her something that can tear the Narrator from your mind and free you both.

That leads to either The Horde or The Singularity, the latter of which is a fusion Princess with The Stranger. (Chat requested I draw her chibi form too, probably to torment me lmao) Many of the Chapter 3 princesses are meant to have echoes of the Shifting Mound, and I would say this one certainly does XD

This would also mean we would want to add a standalone Chapter 3 for The Stranger. So what if the Voice of the Contrarian was able to help you "put her back the way she was?" So you accidentally implode the cabin with you inside, everything goes dark, and you die. Waking to Chapter 3: The Cabin.

The whole cabin is Princesses now!

We aren't doing any more DLC for Slay the Princess, so these will remain as sketches :] But these were so fun!! I didn't know if I was going to be able to ideate a whole Princess line live and get anything good out of it, so I am happy with these.

Love that in Slay the Princess the Long Quiet is he/him and the Princess is she/her and they’re painted as enemies and fundamental opposites who cannot coexist without violence occurring but that’s actually all nonsense. This isn’t the way they’re meant to exist, they are one thing painfully broken into a false binary by a hubristic man trying to control them
