LJ refugee and boring person.

You know when someone goes "Oh, you're autistic? You should meet my buddy Ronathon he's autistic you'll love him he's great" and you meet him and he's the fucking worst

And I should clarify the point Im making is not "I'm *special* and *different* and *better*" it's "Autism is not a defining personality trait"

It’s like the same as “oh, you’re gay? You should meet my buddy ronathon he’s gay you’ll love him he’s great” or “oh, you’re Hispanic? You should meet my friend ronathon he’s Hispanic you’ll love him he’s great” or “oh you’re a woman? You should meet my friend ronatha she’s also a woman you’ll love her she’s great” and then they’re always totally different from you. Like, people like to go, oh I know two people with this same weird thing about them so that means they’re the same they should be friends, but that never works because your descriptors don’t define your personality and it’s super annoying that people do that.

This is a good addition but I need to add that I am Delighted you continued to use fake name I pulled from my butt. Like ah shit it’s Ronathan

congrats to Ronatha on her transition, even if she's still the worst

I kinda love tiktoks for like middle schoolers that are like "POV: You and your ENEMY are roommates" as if like an ENEMY is a normal thing to have for most people

living with your parents

DO NOT CALL THE REGULAR POLICE.

they are not on your side.

Very explicitly, in the video, the regular police straight up lie to the couple, telling them they will go to jail for harboring a fugitive if they dont hand the doordasher over, and that it doesnt matter if ice has a warrant for her arrest. NEITHER OF THESE THINGS ARE TRUE. You CANNOT be harboring a fugitive if the person you are haboring doesnt have a warrant out for their arrest! The warrant is what makes them a fugitive!

If ice wants access to someone on your property, do NOT hand them over unless you are shown a warrant signed by a judge! Make as much noise as you can to attract bystanders - it was the fact that a crowd gathered and started yelling at them that made ice leave in the video. And DO NOT expect the regular police to help you - they are just another arm of the state and will only do or say whatever they think is necessary to make you comply.

And make sure you film everything so you have evidence of what really happened if ice tries to enter your property illegally.

really hilarious and unsexy when hetero romantasy authors refer to love interests as males and females. you sound like david attenborough narrating a special documentary on two turtles humping in the mud

i don't care if he's the king of the fae. if that man called me a desirable female i'd have him gelded

I remember encountering exactly this sentiment when reading up about women's haircuts/hairstyles. The essay started off with "There are many different face shapes, and that means that the same hairstyle will look different on different people," and went on to list and show examples of each different facial shape. I thought, oh cool! human variety is amazing and aesthetics are so complex! And then the essay went from that right into "of course there is only one GOOD facial shape, The Beauteous Oval, and the whole point of hairstyling is to try to disguise all the other awful ugly deviant facial shapes and make everyone look exactly the same <3"

they have been kidnapping and killing our neighbors. they show that they will kill you irregardless without remorse and post hoc call you a domestic terrorist. I am abhorred.

by the way guys, this deployment of ice to minnesota is largest ever. more agents than chicago. we are a much less dense state. we are being inundated.

It is the largest Department of Homeland Security operation in history. And yet Minnesota’s Somali population (this operation’s primary target) is upwards of 90% naturalized American citizens. It’s even more of a manufactured crisis than most DHS operations. Genuinely living in Minnesota now feels like we’re a small country on the brink of invasion.

I saw two ICE trucks yesterday on my way to give my friends back their house keys from when I was looking after their cats. I got home today and I heard whistles and honking from people chasing ICE, but by the time I got Matilda in the house they were gone so I couldn't join in the chase. I know there was a major attempt to steal my neighbors from just a few blocks away this morning while I was at work.

It doesn't feel like we're on the brink of invasion. It feels like we're being newly occupied by an invading force. Except that the invading force doesn't just want our total submission; they also want to rip half our neighbors out of our arms. They came for Hmong Minnesotans next, and they are also more than 90% citizens. We have a lot of minority populations who settled here because Minnesota prides itself on welcoming refugees; both populations have been here for more than thirty years.

Fuck this shit. It is terrorism.

Not just feels like, is. Feels like because is.

And for all the rest of us US occupants not in Minnesota, it's coming to us, too. Ohio is getting door-to-door ICE today, for instance, and I've seen multiple friends in other states posting photos of big ol' trucks, beds packed with ICE vehicles, rolling in to town.

We're still not quite two weeks into 2026. Get ready to plant your feet.

You guys know this reads like Anne Frank's fucking diary right? How the FUCK are you guys not in full blown rebellion already is beyond my comprehension.

— dearly, someone outside of US of hell.

We are in full blown rebellion, you ass. The goal here from the administration is to provoke us into violence so they can use the full weight of the military to make examples of us, probably by attempting to raze the city to the ground. We are civilians trying to resist using the laws that still exist to protect ourselves and save as many people as we can.

What the fuck else do you want us to do? Play right into Trump's hands? Fuck the hell off with your judgement if you aren't on the ground here. Go put some pressure on your own foreign dignitaries to pressure our government if you're feeling horrified, that might actually be of some use.

I bring sort of a 'peasants of the past were not as debased, uneducated and dirty as a lot of pesudo-medieval fiction makes them out to be but this new wave of attempting to sweep the very real indentured servitude, corporal ownership, poverty and lack of basic human rights under the rug isn't achieving what you think it's achieving' vibe to the party that people don't really like

When you try to talk about enshittification, it sounds like conspiracy theories. (I'm not crazy)

Amazon made their service worse, to force people to pay for Prime.

Nowadays, if you order from Amazon, there is a week long delay before your package is shipped. (on purpose)

I remember when orders would ship out the same day. (I remember - it was real)

YouTube didn't used to have ads. Now, ads play in the middle of videos. (it's worse than TV ever was)

The best can opener I have owned is over 40 years old. Modern ones just don't hold up as well. (The ones I bought new broke ages ago)

The bread machine my mom got for her wedding lasted 30 years. It's been replaced twice in the last 5 years. (How can you fuck this up?)

The cardboard tubes in the middle of toilet paper rolls have gotten larger. (This too?) Companies increasing the price of the product while selling you less. (REALLY?)

It sounds crazy. (it's the truth) When you talk about it, YOU sound crazy. (it's true)

Even when people believe you (do they really), all they can say is "it sucks". (it's too big) Because the problem is so big, so pervasive, what can we even DO about it???

To get the necessary laws written and passed, we need politicians, to get the politicians elected we need information campaigns, to fund campaigns we need money, and all the money is being hoarded by the people profiting from enshittification. (it sounds so fake)

So I talk about enshittification (it sounds crazy), so people don't forget that things have been made worse on purpose (it's true), even though I sound crazy. (maybe I am)

We also need more people willing to fucking vote.

"Republicans don't have consistent morals"

Yes they do. It's just that their morals are rooted in "protect the people and things closest to me at all costs". Their values are extreme tribalism. They also believe those outside the group are constantly threatening the safety and prosperity of the in-group.

This is why so much of what they do seems contradictory and hypocritical. Yes, they want prosperity for those they consider "like them", but they are also willing to do things that harm themselves if it harms the "enemy" more. And, they blame the enemy for that harm, not themselves.

It's literally "this is why we can't have nice things". It's your fault.

A conservative may think, "welfare might be nice, and it's true all my neighbors depend on it, but those welfare queens are stealing it, so we can't have it. Public pools might be nice, and they provide a safe place for my children to play, but people I consider unclean might use them, so we can't have them."

This is how a conservative woman can justify an abortion for herself, but not for others, even though anti-abortion laws make it harder for her to get that abortion in the first place.

What needs to be done will morph and change, external influences will change what they think are important values for the inside group to have to some degree, but at the core it's always about protecting their own.

When I was in highschool, I had a conversation that truly made me understand how conservatives think on a fundamental level. I was discussing with a conservative family friend an essay I was writing that was arguing for the decriminalization of sex work and I spent a while laying out my various arguments and why this issue was important and at the end she said to me "okay, but I don't want my daughter to think that is an acceptable thing to do".

I (being a teenager) was confused by this because this issue is so much larger than just her daughter. So I tried again to explain how many people are harmed by sex work criminalization and how decriminalization would decrease sex trafficking and she repeated again, with a smile on her face: "I don't want my daughter to do that and decriminalization would signal that that is an acceptable thing for her to do".

I was struck with a moment of realization that the way I see the world is the exact opposite of this woman. She fundamentally saw the world as centered on her and her loved ones as individuals, and was completely unconcerned with how it would affect society on a larger level. To her, the material harm that was caused to thousands of people is completely inconsequential when compared to the imagined possibility of it signaling something to her family that she personally disagrees with. That is, at it's core the conservative mindset.

tbh youre making it sound like the part of the brain that forecasts danger.... is extra active in conservatives brains?????????

like it just sounds like conservatives beliefs are based on fear of something hurting them & their family.

can trauma make u a conservative???????

I don’t think anyone here has said anything even close to that. We’ve basically said conservatives are selfish, actually.

And no, I don’t think trauma on its own can forcibly turn a leftist into a conservative. I think how a person was raised, who their friends and family are, what news they read, what social media sites they use, and what culture they are part of all have a much stronger influence than trauma alone.

David Frum just had a great take on this in The Atlantic (gift link if I saved it right):

MAGA is many things, but above all it’s a movement about redistributing respect away from those who command too much (overeducated coastal elites) to those who don’t have enough (white Americans without advanced degrees who feel left behind). You see that redistribution at work in the Trump administration’s project to devalue medical experts and empower wellness gurus and vaccine skeptics, and in its dismissal of “deep state” national-security professionals in favor of TV pundits.
Nowhere does the demand to redistribute respect come into starker view than when guns start firing. In Trump’s first term, Kyle Rittenhouse—who shot and killed two men and injured a third during protests against police brutality in Wisconsin in August 2020—became a MAGA hero largely because he was enforcing the MAGA vision of respect due. Many Americans saw him as a trigger-happy 17-year-old vigilante, but to the MAGA faithful he was a brave soldier in the larger war against MAGA enemies, real and imagined.
The ICE agent who killed Good is Trump’s second-term Kyle Rittenhouse. Of course the agent could have walked away and left everyone unharmed. By law, perhaps he should have walked away: It’s generally illegal for a law-enforcement officer to kill a civilian seeking to escape, more so if the civilian is unarmed, and even more so if the civilian is not a criminal suspect of any kind. But letting protesters drive off unscathed, without punishing them for their disrespect, would let them “get away with it.” And that would be an intolerable affront to the MAGA vision of who must submit to whom.

Essentially, it's in-group vs out-group taken to its most violent extreme. What we're seeing, particularly in white conservative spaces is that as soon as you express support for the out-group, you lose your proximity to whiteness. That's what happened to Renee Good.

Per Heather Cox Richardson:

David Marcus of Fox News warned that “organized gangs of wine moms” are using “Antifa tactics to harass and impede Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.” He claimed that those people organizing to protect their neighborhoods from ICE may be “criminal conspiracies.” He complained of “self-important White women” protesting “with a weird and disturbing glee.” He seemed to threaten them by warning: “if we simply allow these cosplaying would-be revolutionaries to do whatever they want…, Renee Good will not be the last to needlessly die.” On Monday, Will Cain of the Fox News Channel echoed Marcus, saying: “There’s a weird kind of smugness...in the way that some of these liberal white women interact with authority.”

Conservatives will look at this and excuse the violence because in their view, Renee Good was no longer one of their own (a white woman, the very type of person that conservatism is supposed to protect). We can and should argue that as a queer woman, Renee Good was never going to be considered one of their own, but that's a different post.

TLDR: it's hierarchical thinking (who deserves deference generally, who deserves my respect personally, and who owes me deference) and a morality and a voting interest road map that flies out the window as soon as someone in the perceived out-group starts to benefit.

side effect of the constant antisemitism on here is wondering which of my friends or friendquaintances are being indoctrinated by it. wondering if they see this shit and think it's real because they haven't spent their lives steeped in the knowledge of what antisemitism looks like. knowing that some of the mutuals on here who - while not quite friends, i do have a fondness for - are still mutuals with people i've blocked for antisemitism and wondering what kind of things they are "learning" from those people

my dad thinks the concept of shipping is hilarious. my parents are cool, they know about my online presence, it's fine. dad doesn't scroll my blog or anything, though--he's usually too busy watching dubiously homoerotic pro wrestling clips or playing valheim--so his idea of shipping culture is bizarre

damn near every time I mention im working on a fic or piece of fanart, he gasps in hopeful anticipation and asks "tamatoa and heihei?!" and he always acts bitterly disappointed

no, dad. i'm not writing or drawing anything where a 50 foot crab and a literal chicken have any kind of relationship at all. you've been asking me to make this ship happen for almost nine years now and the answer has always been no. it's a running gag, of course, but--why would you even think of that?! what kind of shit do you think happens on ao3?!

I have decided to make my dad's vision a reality

behold

happy holidays. My dad is threatening to print this on a shirt

Op did he like it or did he love it

he says he's gonna wear it to work

this reminds me i dreamt last night my mum found my tumblr and was judging me for not having a diverse enough selection of tw tags 😅

Reminder that the term Zio is a slur against Jews coined by former klan grand wizard David Duke. Imagine saying you're just anti-Zionist and calling people antisemitic slurs

““If books were roads, some would be made for driving quickly - details are scant, and what details there are appear drab - but the velocity and torque of the narrative is exhilarating. Some books, if seen as roads, would be make for walking - the trajectory of the road mattering far less than the vistas these roads might afford.”

— Peter Mendelsund, What We See When We Read

“reminder that x character did terrible things” spoken not in like a scoldy or judgemental way or that they need to repent for their sins or whatnot. but as in “i love my guy who sucks. why are you taking the sucks out of my guy. that’s literally the best part about them.”
