Payneland, Orm/Patrick Wilson, RDJ Holmes, Twin Peaks, Beatles, Crochet and more!

Two canonical superpowers we generally forget/don’t notice the boys have:

Charles: superstrength.

Multiple times Charles is shown using a single (1) hand to throw a full-sized human across a table (Edwin in the pilot and Twitchy Richie in Two Dead Dragons). Given the two people he does this to we know it is neither a ghosts-are-weightless thing nor a weird ghosts-can-throw-the-living thing. Also seen sometimes when he hits stuff (even without his magic bat), etc.

Edwin: telekinesis.

This is only really clearly shown once that I can recall, but when Charles cuts off the WWI ghost’s mask, Edwin thwoops it across the room into his own hand. I think folks generally assume that Charles threw it, but I replayed it several times and a) Charles’s hands are not actually on the mask at the time, b) the angle makes no sense for a throw, c) there’s a magic sound effect. (It’s still possible this is just a major editing fail, and of course very possible that they decided to retcon telekinesis after the pilot, but. It’s there!)

I've read a number of payneland fics recently, and while I understand why they took the routes they took, I do feel like a number of them would have been improved by letting Charles commit arson.

Prolonged threats to Edwin and his wellbeing? Let him set their house on fire.

Emotionally torturing the bestie who's already going through it? Spray paint a warning in the villain's office a la "Blame x for what happens next" Then casually set off small bombs.

Just, Charles being unhinged and brutal when it comes to Edwin's safety. Let him light things on fire.

When you learn how to crochet/ knit or really any type of fiber arts, there will be a voice in your head that tells you that you should make something for everyone for the holidays.

Do not listen to that voice, for it is the devil.

suffering from demon-induced amnesia in a town where nobody knows her, crystal starts working at a magic shop. it all goes pearshaped from there, between harbouring fugitives from hellhounds, her expanding psychic powers and entering a magic bond with a shapeshifter. but at least there is niko, amidst the chaos.

“Jenny has a date,” Niko responds, and suddenly her dreamy state makes sense. It hadn’t taken long to find out that her roommate is an incurable romantic, absolutely obsessed with heart-motifs and convoluted love stories. The fact that it’s Jenny of all people stumps Crystal for a moment. “I’ll be so real, did not expect that. I thought she was a proud spinster.” Niko tuts. “Nonsense, she’s just always been too busy catastrophising to open herself up for it. But then Maxine, the librarian, came into the shop with a rose and asked her out and I made sure Jenny’s shop looked date-appropriate.” “Wait, hang on. Maxine?” Niko nods enthusiastically. “Yep, she’s lovely, always remembers what series I’m reading at the moment.” Crystal groans. “Oh my god, why can’t any part of my life be free from this shop?” “What do you mean?” Niko’s eyes are wide, curious, so damn lovely. Crystal sighs and stares down at the lollipop. “Maxine came in earlier this week as a client. Mick gave her a confidence charm.” The look on Niko’s face can only be described as ecstatic. “Oh my gosh that’s amazing! When this all goes well, we have to invite Jenny here so she can thank Mick herself.” Crystal laughs at the image of Jenny standing in the shop, glaring at every item like it’s personally offended her and her family business. “Now that I’d love to see.”
