what time is it? it's 'missing my wife' o'clock

Lan Wangji found himself sinking into the darkness of missing Wei Wuxian every hour. Stubborn as he was, he could only admit that this longing felt way too close to an addiction. Their song kept looping in his head; his scars felt heavier than usual; Wei Wuxian’s scent lingered everywhere he turned. And all this over Wei Wuxian simply going out for a stroll with the juniors…

It’s no secret to anyone that Wei Wuxian is an easy-going person. As he charms everyone around him with his chatter and easy smile, you can always expect to find a very composed Lan Wangji nearby, standing rigidly, as still as a carved statue - and, did his brows just twitched? That’s probably the full range of expression anyone will ever see from Lan Wangji in their entire lives. Was he annoyed at Wei Wuxian? And if so, why did he keep hovering around Wei Wuxian like a fiercely loyal personal guard?

Lan Wangji woke that morning the same way he always did. He stepped out of the Jingshi with a clear purpose: he needed to find his brother and deliver the news. Urgent news. His memory from the previous night was hazy, but one thing he remembered with absolute clarity was Wei Ying removing his headband (and his own lack of resistance).

He went straight to Lan Xichen and said, without hesitation:

“Brother, Wei Ying touched my headband. I must marry him.”

Lan Xichen’s expression shifted in mere seconds, worry softening into gentle understanding. Hoping to ease his younger brother’s distress, he replied:

“You don’t actually have to—”

“No. I’m going to.”

Though life's circumstances had stolen years they might have shared, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian had a new start. Every single moment together now carried the weight of all the years they’d lost, as if love had bound them from the moment they met. Wei Wuxian made sure they spent every minute together, getting a little too happy and a little too at ease for GusuLan’s standards. Not that Lan Wangji cared. Seeing Wei Wuxian smiling because of him was all he ever needed.
