ares gets bored during joint practice and asks athena if he could play with some of the boys. athena poses ares a challenge to block just One of diomedes’ spike, to which ares is like “thats such an easy win ill do it duhh”
diomedes needs a setter so he drags odysseus into this (as usual) and ares serves first and this is kinda what happens:
but yeah but basically ares got beef cause he lost and it hurts his pride </3 (its ok he needed to be humbled a bit)

i feel like odysseus falls in love first. odysseus watches the way diomedes carries himself, how he effortlessly exudes confidence, and doesn’t need petty words to prove his strength. how diomedes fights on the battlefield, almost as if bloodshed is second nature to him, as if it was easy as breathing. and how could odysseus not fall for that?
(he conveniently ignores the voice in the back of his head telling him that diomedes reminds him so much of penelope)
however, he’s doubtful anything could come from it. odysseus is willing to just keep everything under wraps and lie to himself if it meant not getting attached - can’t get hurt if you don’t get close, right?
but diomedes would be the one to make a move first because diomedes is so intrigued by odysseus. the king of ithaca wears his heart on his sleeve, but he’s also a mystery. a mystery diomedes is ready to ignore. but he watches the way odysseus enters a room, easily capturing the attention of everyone in it, and he hates that. he wants odysseus just for himself, so he makes the move first.
