Sam. Sam. Sigh.
"How can I be running from something when I'm racing toward it?"
"Kinda your thing."
Sam. Selecting rocks to throw at u. Dean reacts to this remark with a hurt and disbelieving scoff. Sam actually takes notes of that.
"You said you let Michael in, then bang, you're back in a blink...."
Sam. You don't know how long it felt like for Him. You don't!
Sam is narrativising by just making things up to fill in the blanks here. If Dean would do him the service of journaling every single moment of his trauma and unendingly sharing it, THEN he'd know what narrative to pick. Then he'd have control here. That's what he's scrambling for. Then he can decide what he wants to say to Dean. What narrative Dean needs to be TOLD.
"...But for me...you were gone for weeks. I didn't know if you were alive. I...I just need you to talk to me. Just slow down so I can catch up."
See. This is surprisingly honest and open for Sam, rite? But it's because he's trying to get Dean to do what he wants. He wants Dean to talk. Because he can't process. So he talks instead. A bid for reciprocity sharing. Which Dean might usually respond to. (He's also just sharing which is fine. I'm just saying it has layers).
But he can't let it be. Dean hasn't exactly been secretive. Just last scene was Dean barelling towards a solution even tho it means digging into his memories of possession. He's been sharing any info he remembers with Sam and Cas. He's even been extremely emotionally honest. "Ofc I'm not ok.", "Hey. Still ok.", etc. (ik those sound contradicting but Dean's talking abt different things there. U get it). He IS taking seriously how his possession would have affected his family. (Dean assuring him every couple of seconds also makes me think Sam must have pressed Dean to talk even on their drive back home. Ouch).
Sam is like, you won't even talk about it.
But Dean IS. He's just talking about the things he Can talk about. He's talking about things that are important to Him. Not Sam. Obviously.
And Sam can't handle it.
Telling your brother who just got back home from being traumatized, "Why can't you process in a way that's convenient to ME?" pretty explicitly is...unfair.
For Me it was weeks. For Me it was terrifying.
Why would it be less traumatising for Dean, who's the one actually going through all this? (To save Sam and Cas btw).
This is also exactly how Sam reacted when Dean came back from his demon arc. When Dean came back from Hell. (Idr the purgatory one need to look back).
Sam always wants the details. Coz those details are how he builds a narrative. He needs to have a narrative to feel like he's in control. This insecurity is also why he'll often insist on things being entirely his choice (when they're not) or things being entirely out of his control (even when he had choices). He needs to pick the narrative. THAT'S the real control he wants. Feels like he needs. He's so spun out without it.
And he just doesn't see the voyuerism-as-processing thing he falls into.
He often DOES see that this problem is causing issues and hurts in his relationships, particularly Dean. But he doesn't want to do anything about that. Because then he'd have to admit that he doesn't need control over the narrative. And he can't let go of that. It's too unbearable.
All well and good to analyse. But omg constantly being on the other end of it is quite the nightmare esp when ur JUST back from being horribly violated. Oof.

jared insulting is "funny" but if Misha makes a harmless joke they call him every disgusting name under the sun, the double standard. And what "jealousy" I didnt know giving honest opinion is "jealousy" they are projecting actually, because Misha and Jensen get praised even now but every one I see even in the general audience, can't stop talking about how bad of a actor jared is, maybe they shouldnt have chosen jared as their fave wouldnt be this miserable all the freaking time
First off, blooper or not, we all know he is the type to seriously make fun of someone going to drama school because he’s a natural jerk and insecure (he’s called himself insecure btw, so that’s a fact)
Secondly, you’re absolutely right nonnie…what could anyone be jealous of him for? Sure as hell not his acting 😂
a true story is that i told my brother, an actor, that i was watching supernatural and spent a few minutes gushing about jensen ackles' acting, and he, unprompted added, "well but that other guy can't act," and i was like, "what, jared?" and then i tried to explain that he's not like, the best, but he has some really strong moments, but particularly in comparison to jensen it's a tough spot to be in but he tries (literally out here defending jared, a thing i try to avoid) and he was like, "no I mean, I've seen Walker, and that was not good acting"
and having now watched some of walker, i can't say that i don't see his point
I can honestly say that the two times I felt he did a good and broke my heart; When he was in the mental facility and being tortured by Lucifer and in S15 when Dean was taking human bomb Jack to destroy Chuck and Sam gave him the “everything goes back” speech.
yeah those were both really great heartbreaking moments, but in terms of craft, i personally love soulless sam, i think that's a very challenging thing to have to play and he did a great job
In terms of characters, I do prefer soulless Sam to regular Sam. I don’t particularly consider that a challenging acting choice, but I did find SS less performative than regular Sam.
The only times I ever liked Jareds acting was the 2 scenes above that mentioned
But the trials ending in season 8, jared being like well that. I get it
But that scene where Dean has given up and Sam in season 14 punching Dean then hugging him. The way he goes at him it broke me to pieces.
I haven't seen Jared in anything other than Supernatural [I absolutely hate Gilmore Girls sorry but true.] So I cant say much else
But its sad when you can only think of 4 times that Jareds acting you can remember it
All the other times I was meh or laughing at the lily sunders episode mainly because he expressed what we all were feeling with the aggressive hand face rub
I think he's pretty good at comedy. I liked him in The French Mistake and as Justin in 14x15 Peace of Mind.

There will never be another like him….
14.07 Unhuman Nature

MISHA COLLINS as CASTIEL SUPERNATURAL, FUNERALIA
I love their budding siblingism so much
CAS: Hello, Michael. You've been through a terrible ordeal... and I'm reaching out because we need to support each other.
///
MICHAEL: >:C
LAST TIME WHY WERE YOU SO MEAN TO ME, CASTIEL?
//
WTF?!!!!
//
I THOUGHT YOU WERE APOLOGIZING FOR YOUR PART IN MY TERRIBLE ORDEAL!!!
//
CAS: ...
//////
Later:
MICHAEL: NO DON'T YOU DARE TALK TO ME, 'GUY WHO DOOMED ME'
CAS: Michael—
MICHAEL: —I SAID NO TALKING, 'GUY WHO DOOMED ME!'
//////
Many minutes later...
ADAM: I'd give it a rest, guys. He's sulking not listening.
//////
Many more minutes later still...
SIBLINGISM RETURNS
.................
LMAO this is not even proper angelic battle prowess or a threat of smiting (SEE: How Michael handled Lilith in the diner)
Instead we get THEEEE most petty playground-stick-fighting
IMMATURE fighting
OMG THESE TWO ARE BEING ABSOLUTE CHILDREN—
AND GOD FUCKING DAMMIT—
TRAPPED AGAIN
MICHAEL: oh no What if I am stupid??? just a stupid assbutt???? Stupider than Lucifer????
//////
Adam's helpful summary: "I told you, Michael. Castiel is the kind of guy who WILL challenge you to arm wrestle with a thumbtack hidden in his palm. Ya gotta learn to listen to me, man."
//////
Many moons later still...
MICHAEL: Where is Castiel? I think we became friends last time. I was hoping he'd be here to antagonize me... <=) ???
the scene where they choke each other reminds me of the scene from stepbrothers
I keep thinking about how adaptive and resilient Cas is. Can you imagine being Chrysler building sized force of nature that can teleport from here to Saturn nebula in a moment and then losing all of that? How he took a bus to fight pestilence, stepped over a demon when he couldn’t smite her. He learned how to use a shotgun and learned how to drive when he lost his wings. When he was powerless homeless and his friends abandoned him he got a job and tried his best. No matter how much he lost he kept pushing forward and never once complained to anyone becuse he didn’t want to burden people with his issues.

6.15 The French Mistake Written by Ben Edlund Directed by Charles Beeson Original Air Date: February 25, 2011
rewatching spnsf from 2024, as one does, and was really struck on this watch through how Misha, when he talks about the tone being set on set, really does give the entirety of the credit to Jensen
Misha says, "Typically in our industry, when people are given the keys to power in Hollywood, on set they turn into, uh, self-serving primadonnas." He names Jensen as being opposite to this trend, but not other actors on the show.
He goes on to say "He [Jensen] took control of the set…and Jensen, you for sure carried the torch of that tone [of respect]."
In other words, a certain #1 on the call sheet was.... not... doing that.... Jensen was.
we know these things, but sometimes it really does startle me how much we like, Know These Things
