the mcgill brothers gotta have two of the worst divorce coping mechanisms i’ve ever seen… chuck decided he was literally allergic to the world around him and jimmy became the physical manifestation of a supercell tornado storm of trauma

“The show started as, you know, how is he gonna become Saul Goodman [and] why. And it became Kim Wexler and Jimmy together. And why are they together. And what’s driving them. And how is that gonna go awry. And in the end, I think the writers acknowledge, with the ending that they wrote, that it really is this relationship [that] was the real life of the show, inner life and outer life.” —Bob Odenkirk

“To have Kim leave Jimmy behind in a place that feels so punishing, so isolating, scary and sad was really, really hard. I hadn’t realised the way Bob-as-Jimmy was going to look at me, and it was so arresting. To me, it was so much about him letting her know, ‘I’m okay, the best of me that you always saw is alive and well,’ and I think she’s trying to let him know, ‘I see that.’ She still loves him. I always felt that was key. The entire series, these two people had all sorts of different masks they wear out in the world, and they only truly felt seen by each other. That’s what that last moment felt like to me.” – Rhea Seehorn

“And I think if you were to ask [Kim], the character, ‘Well, why are you getting married?’ she would say, ‘Because Jimmy told me that he lies so he can protect me from having to testify against him.’ Which is a very lawyerly reason. But I think they get married because they love each other. And there’s some beautiful symmetry on the show, that I find fun—these are two people who got a law office for love and got married for business.” -Peter Gould, The Ringer

“If they ever deluded themselves really that this is just for business, this proves… no, this is not a business arrangement. This is not a convenience to make it so that we don’t have to implicate each other legally. This is love. This is a deep connection and a deep commitment to one another.” -Gordon Smith, Entertainment Weekly

its so insane how. by making bcs. they made breaking bad not only feel like a sequel but also like Walt feel incidental. EVEN THOUGH bcs's insane goodness is 60% there BECAUSE it's a prequel. and yet it outmatches the actual original story to the point that that whole original story feels tangential. like this was the real story all along. jimmy lived the real story all along and it's like with Walt we just came in after the credits rolled like that's how the stories feel weighted to me. like it isn't AN ORIGIN STORY. do you understand. it isn't an origin story. it's the story. and it's not even like "everyone has a story" which is how prequels are born like no. this is THE story. everything else that happened after just happened after. anyway have you ever had insomnia wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy
