I love when a character wants to be someone's dog so so bad. Dont mean it in a sexual way (although that can also be a part of it) I mean like. Let me be your loyal companion let me stay by your side give me a purpose in exchange for endless unconditional love let me stop being a person love me like it's my only use. Love me like that's the only thing I was made for. As you can tell. I'm normal.
oh man i agreed with your post, but i saw you had to close it to reblogs. the pitt fandom is pretty intense, i wouldn't be surprised if there were takes about how it's robby's fault langdon got addicted in the first place. i love the series and all the characters in it, and i don't really feel the need to protect any of them. i think langdon's actions were very serious in s1, and that doesn't negate that addiction is an illness. the langdon-robby tension is very interesting and i can't wait to see it unfold/explode!
yeah people were getting annoying and I didn’t make that post to pretend like one character is Jesus Christ and the other is Judas so I just went ahead and turned off reblogs. plus I find it pretty insulting that I was being accused of thinking that addiction is a choice by a total stranger so. reblogs are now off lol.
anyway!! all of these characters are fantastic and the show really makes you feel for all of them, even if you’re simultaneously frustrated with them. Like, yes, Robby absolutely has every right to be angry with Frank for what happened because he put sooo much at risk by stealing those meds, and Frank does know that—but also you can tell that Frank is genuinely trying and comes in wanting to make amends and it’s sad that Robby is being snippy and keeping him at arm’s length, but as someone with family members who have had/still have various addictions it is so hard to trust them once they’ve hurt you, especially if while doing that they put you, themsellves, or others in danger.
Robby isn’t in the wrong for not wanting to let Frank back in without some lingering anger, and Frank isn’t in the wrong for being hurt about the way Robby’s treated him because they’re both very human, very flawed people. Same with Santos and Mel and Javadi and everyone else.
I just think people are very attached to particular characters and see themselves in those characters, so a post talking about the negative aspects of that character and the negative impacts of what they’ve done can be seen as a personal attack—which is a shame, because it takes away from what could be a very nuanced conversation about these characters with a lot of depth.
Dr. Al-Hashimi: Did you get a chance to read over the packet Gloria sent?
Robby, who thought leaving on sabbatical would get him out of reading the packet:
One of my big breaks with star wars canon is that I fully think that, even with hyperlanes, they should need several weeks to get from the outer rim to Coruscant. I will write that trip as taking Forever unless people are using restricted tech (military) or breaking the law (Han Solo).
I can accept a midpoint btw. The military can take a few days but the freight travel should be weeks.
But like... it should take as long to get a superfreighter from Tatooine to Coruscant as it does to get a container ship from Japan to Ireland (48 days).
I want to imagine that they (the cargo ships) are also more dangerous at FTL speeds so they have dedicated slow lanes. Extra wide for safety, with really long "exit ramps" so they can accel/decel out without hitting anyone. We want to avoid an accidental Holdo Maneuver.
There are also emergency lanes that are kept clear for, well, emergencies. It's not like you can DODGE in a hyperlane. You can't pull over to let the emergency ships speed past you.
So. Service lanes.
So you have the extra slow lanes for freight/cargo/other huge liners.
"Normal" lanes for personal or small group transports.
And emergency lanes for the military, relief aid, political officials, etc.
So the military gets there in two days (ftl equivalent of Mach speeds), solo travelers get there in anywhere from one to three weeks (you can pay for the faster lanes, but it's restricted for safety; bounty hunters usually pay for the faster lane).
And the giant cargo ship is going to take two months. Because fuck you, transportation is such a crucial element of SO MANY TRADE ISSUES, you can't just whittle it down. It needs to be a pain in the ass. You gotta make it suck.
#I totally agree #the interesting thing about galactic level trade is its sheer scale too #hyperlanes don’t connect every single planet- it’s totally feasible that to get from planet A to planet B #you’ll have to drop out of hyperspace like 4 times to pick up another lane #like how you have to change highways to get from city A to city B #I like to think that each time the freighters drop out of hyperspace they have to go through planetary customs too #like how trucks on the road have to periodically pull over for weigh in stations #so a trip you could make in a week gets an extra day and a half worth of time #spent waiting in lines for customs and whatnot (via @katrina-loves-birds)
You get it!
In this vein... who here has spent hours upon hours watching logistics videos by Wendover Productions?
