Source: Revenge guidebook of the time limited maid
I love this so much due to fl aka bel trying to hold her tears back seeing her daughter aka rita in that state and she wants to help her alot. While rita copes bel aka fl who is her mother’s death in a bad way as revenge is her reason to live. Not to mention, the comic shows us that revenge is not always the good choice as we see it affects people mentally when grieving for something. This shows how that revenge someone’s mental health entirely wanting to get back at those who cause the death of their loved one
That's the first manhwa I have seen that did something like this. Every single time the fl wants to take revenge so badly she doesn't even care who gets hurt or even killed, the only thing that matters is seeing the people she hates suffer.
This is a unique twist of the "Revenge Power Fantasy" and I love how the comic studies the affects revenge can have on people
Title aka source: This is how to get revenge
I genuinely love that the fl aka grace’s servants are her found family when grace’s parents passed away. They were the ones who discipline her, educate her, cherished her and even helped her when she was at her lowest moment. And in return, grace never ever mistreat them because she knows they work really hard to raise her
So glad to see a manhwa where the fl doesn't abuse the stuff, especially the maids. Found family is one of my favourite tropes and seeing it in a Oİ makes me happy
People trying to justify Navier doing absolutely nothing about slavery in her own empire will always make me mad.
There are many shitty excuses I have seen but the two most common ones are: "Navier wasn't born a royal, she married into royalty so she doesn't have the same power as her husband does" and "the church had more power than the emperor so she couldn't do anything because the church would never allow it". These people love to claim that since Remarried Empress is a historical manhwa it is also realistic and historically accurate but that's just bullshit.
Remarried Empress is not realistic or historically accurate in the slightest. If it was then Navier, Heinrey and their allies wouldn't be able to get away with any of the things they did.
If Remarried Empress was realistic and historically accurate then Navier wouldn't be able to marry again so soon after her divorce and she wouldn't be able to marry the king of the enemy empire, the priest would never bless such marriage. And even if she did she would have faced extreme backlash from her new people and the people of her previous empire.
The locals would treat her just how real life people treated Marie Antoinette when she first came to France, with scorn and suspicion. The people would be even more mad that their lovable queen was replaced by a foreign one, who used to be their enemy, they wouldn't accept Navier. The people would also be suspicious after Krista's death and if word came out of what Heinrey does to people who doubt Navier then there would be an uproar.
And speaking of Heinrey his mass murder wouldn't just be forgotten. People would eventually notice that an entire Duchy has been slaughtered and the consequences would be massive. Power vacuums, economical collapse, destabilisation of the empire, public unrest just to name a few. Nothing of that happens because God forbid Navier and Heinrey face any consequences.
There are also other things that have happened throughout the comic that would realistically lead to heavy consequences for Navier and her allies but nothing happened. Kosair poisoning a pregnant woman and trying to force a miscarriage (said woman being the emperor's wife), Kauffman passing around rape drugs, Heinrey kidnapping children and stealing their magic, Ergi ruining women's lives because of his mommy issues. There are way more but if I tried to put everything we'll be here forever.
Long story short: If Navier wanted to ban slavery she would be able to without facing any consequences. She is a Mary Sue and the whole universe bends to her will, not to mention that Heinrey and the rest of her simps would get rid of anyone who opposed of her decision.
It doesn't matter if Navier doesn't hold the same power as men do, she got everything she wanted and she barely lifted a finger, I am pretty sure she could have ended slavery without any problems.
I know that in a previous post I said that I don't want Dottore to die but now I am rethinking it. I obviously don't want him dead but in order for him to survive, and probably be playable, he has to become a traveler simp and that's a fate worse than death. It almost ruined Arlecchino for me and I don't think I can survive another one of my favourite Harbingers getting a rushed and shifty redemption arc.
The way Otome Isekai Manhwa authors write maids, slaves and poor people in general is pretty gross.
They present these unfortunate and unprivileged people as greedy and selfish pigs who only think of themselves and would throw anyone under the bus if it means they'll get what they want.
More often than not maids are bullies who will do anything in order to make the fl's life miserable. They will steal from her, ruin her clothes, serve her spoiled or rotten food and so much more just to see her suffer. Realistically this wouldn't fly. Maids and servants weren't even allowed to look their masters in the eye, especially the slaves, much less stand close to them, the moment a maid stepped out of line she could be executed. No maid would risk death or unemployment just to piss off a noble they don't like.
I haven't seen much of the male servants acting out of line so I can't really speak on the matter but they are presented as greedy very often.
The way slaves are treated is even worse. Just take a look at Remarried Empress, Villains are Destined to Die and Divorcing my Tyrant Husband. In all these cases slaves are either demonized or are used as plot devices or both.
The Koreans have a very classist and elitist mindset and it clearly shows in the manhwa they're writing. The way they demonize the ones less fortunate and the poor is absolutely disgusting! This is why I'm glad "This Isekai Maid is Forming a Union" exists. I will glaze that webtoon until the day I die!
A lot of people started to realise that TROTSH was bad during season 3. Some started to realise it at the beginning if season 2. Others noticed how bad The Shield Hero was during the first season at different times.
Some noticed when the first season ended, others realised it after Raphtalia made the pregnant comment during the hot springs scene, some people realised it after Raphtalia willingly put herself back into slavery while others noticed it when Filo turned into a naked child sleeping on Naofumi's side. I on the other hand noticed how bad TROTSH was way earlier.
The moment I saw that Raphtalia had aged up I immediately knew where the story was going. I tried to gaslight myself by saying that The Shield Hero was not like the other isekai and that Naofumi sees Raphtalia as a daughter but the more I watched the more I realised that TROTSH was going to be just another garbage isekai and I was right.
As much I like Demon Slayer I have to admit that the writing is pretty mid and that extends to the ships as well. Now, Demon Slayer couples aren't as bad as other shonen anime, "cough" Naruto "cough", but they're still not very good (in my opinion).
1) Obamitsu
It's sad to say this considering that Obamitsu is one of my favourite kny ships but this pairing isn't very well written.
It does have the foundations to be good but the author fumbled the bag. Mitsuri and Iguro have a good reason to like one another but the author didn't really show us anything. They have cute moments but that's about it.
Mitsuri falling for Iguro because he loves her despite her appearance and inhumane strength, while Iguro falling for Mitsuri because she is bubbly and kind and nothing like those nasty women he grew up with is the perfect setup for a couple and yet we get nothing with these two. The most we got is a flashback in which Iguro gave Mitsuri her socks so that she'll feel less exposed and some moments they got in the Infinity Castle but that's about it.
It doesn't help that Iguro is extremely jealous of almost everyone who breaths the same air as Mitsuri and is hella annoying. They're not even together and Iguro himself says that he'll never be with Mitsuri so he won't "taint" her, so what the hell is he mad about? Great premise, bad execution.
As much as I clown on everyone who thinks and presents Gakuhou as this pure evil man who hates and abuses his son, I can understand why people think like this. Because the anime did an absolute shit job with his character.
I don't know what is happening in the manga or in the light novel (if Assassination Classroom has one) but the anime did such a bad job with Gakuhou's character it's no wonder that some people see him as an abusive greedy asshole who doesn't care about Gakushu
Before we continue I want to say this:
Gakuhou is a pretty ok antagonist (I won't call him a villain because I don't see him as one) but the thing that prevents him from being great is the fact that the anime didn't spend much time on his backstory. They gave us his motivation but not the reason behind it, it took a while for the reason to appear and that happened without any proper build-up. If Gakuhou was supposed to be pure evil then it wouldn't be a a problem but Yusei Matsui clearly didn't write him as pure evil. He wrote Gakuhou as a man who is afraid that the tragedy of his previous student will repeat itself and so he did everything in his power to prevent that. It is not an excuse for Gakuhou's actions but it's definitely an explanation.
The problem is that despite Gakuhou's role as the main antagonist we don't see much of him. This isn't bad per say but it would have been a better if we got to see more of him. It would have been better if we got to see him alone, having a vulnerable moment or hear his thoughts. They did it with Gakushu and his popularity skyrocketed. A lot of people disliked and even hated Gakushu in the beginning but they started to warm up to him because Gakushu had a lot of moments when we got to hear his thoughts, to understand him as a person, to see his motivations and where he stands as person. Gakuhou needed that in order for people to understand him as a character. His backstory would have made more sense as well, giving us some clues and slowly building up to the backstory reveal would have been better. As it is, Gakuhou's backstory feels a little underwhelming because there was no build-up to it. I guess the moment where he chastised that one teacher for using violence and firing him proved that Gakuhou wasn't all that bad, but it wasn't enough.
It also doesn't help that Gakuhou magically changed his mind after his conversation with Koro Sensei. Bro had his whole philosophy crumble and he said "Oh ok, gg". We also should have seen at least one moment of what Gakuhou really thinks about his son. We see how Gakushu views his father but not visa versa.
Remember that this is my opinion so if you disagree it's fine but I would personally loved for Gakuhou to have more screen time, especially alone
Here's where I have to voice my massive disagreement on this.
You seem to believe that Gakuhou's character was disserviced by Seiji Kishi's direction in the anime casting him in a much darker, more villainous light even when compared to the manga, and you go on to say "I won't call him a villain because I don't see him as one."
"don't see him as one"
Gakuhou Asano is an authoritarian headmaster who systematically oppresses and abuses middle school children, encourages those who fall behind and seem to "have no future" be ostracized and bullied by their peers, makes behind-the-scene deals with the government's defense ministry that enables a threat to the planet gets to teach a class in his school and in exchange he solicits government funds to be put into strenghtening his control over kids' educations, abuses and even threatens his own son, has no qualms with getting middle schoolers physically hurt, ruins people's lives by driving them into gambling addictions just out of a desire for petty and personal revenge, tries to knock over a building and transfer its students to military school and kill their teacher when he's sore about losing, and even has some highly unethical and illegal means of assaulting, warping, and controlling the human mind to get people to obey him. I'm sorry but that right there is a fucking VILLAIN. Yes, he's not an entirely unsalvagable monster, but he's still got all the hallmarks of a high functioning psychopath. That's his character.
They sort of did give us the basic inkling of a reason behind his motivation even before we got to see his backstory and the tragedy that sparked that reason - he wants his educational system to breed strong and exceptional students who can secure good futures, and for that purpose he believes a demonstration of failure, of what happens when you don't do well and thus don't have a future ahead of them, is necessary to motivate them and propel them forward to success so that they don't end up like the "lesser ants". It's a very extreme right-wing mentality and it's wrong, but it was his sincerest belief. And yeah, he had sincere standards such as not approving of Takaoka's brute violence and cowardly means of attempting to gain respect and fear from students he ultimately held no real power over, but that shows he's not a sadistic and soulless thug like Takaoka.
And Gakuhou still appears the most out of any villain in the anime. If anything, the anime took out scenes where he did more evil stuff, even at a time where he was on Korosensei and E Class's side!
On the other hand, the manga did give us more of him w/ his son.
Thanks for your input, it's nice to see people disagreeing with me in such a respectful manner.
However there's one thing that I must make clear: I never said that Gakuhou isn't a villain, I said that I personally can't see him as one because I personally have different views and standards as what character classifies as a villain or antagonist. Of course said views aren't really correct but I still stand by what I think.
Maybe I got some things wrong, after all it's been years since I've seen Assassination Classroom (I was in my early teens when I first watched the show and now I am a university student) so my memory of the show isn't the best. Thank you for giving me more information that I forgot or have missed.
But I still stand by my point that we should have seen a little bit more of Gakuhou especially in the end. If they showed us that he is trying to make amends and fix his mistakes (apologising to his son, apologising to the E-class, admitting his wrongdoings) then his redemption would have been more satisfying and actually earned. I still think he is well written and I love him still despite him being low-key a psycho.
Also, the link at the bottom was really helpful, thank you
Although I am not in the Assassination Classroom fandom anymore there are still things that are going around in regards to Gakuhou that piss me off.
Aside from a massive disagreement about Gakuhou's portrayal in the anime (more on that later), you nail everything about Gakuhou's character motivations for doing the things he did and how he views every student under his care, including and especially his son, all tied to the past tragedy with Ikeda that he was unable to prevent and somewhat blames himself for (well, in practice he's actually victim-blaming Ikeda for being "weak", but it's something he feels is his own fault for not building up Ikeda's physical, mental and emotional fortitude for the trials of life beyond junior high school.)
We don't really know much about Past Gakuhou in terms of his childhood or how he was before he got into teaching, so I can't say for certain there was nothing wrong with him even though he does appear to be what we'd classify as a normal person with a normal life. What is most certain is that he was the sort of person who was living his adult life relatively carefree and completely unprepared for a traumatic, tragic event like one of his students taking his own life. More self-secure and (ironically) educated men with a deeper and clearer understanding of life and the human heart and mind might cope with their grief differently, but Gakuhou showed in this moment that he was not such a man. Something in him just snapped. Beneath his well groomed, well dressed and calm exterior lies a very broken man who, no matter how much internal patching up he'll do, can never quite "fix" himself so that he can be who he used to be.
I don't think he ever felt he'd "taught his students weaknesses", at least not directly. He felt he failed to teach them strength. He even ponders to himself at Ikeda's wake "does teaching students to get good grades and succeed only at school make them stronger and prepare them for the world beyond school? Does giving them basic edcuation really make them better students and stronger people?" Which is why he now drives his students to excel and strive to be the best they can possibly be at everything that will matter to them as people going forward in life, no matter the strain it puts on them.
And I love Gakuhou's character and the way he's written, so with that prefacing this, I just wanna say that I could never let the man off the hook for being a fucking authoritarian. "Cruelty = strength" is such textbook authoritarian thinking, and we see what it brings about on a daily basis. That's why it's so important that Korosensei shows him not only that his refusal to indulge in such cruelty can triumph over his methods but it even saves his life, forcing Gakuhou to rethink everything he thought he'd learned and knew, and adapt accordingly.
I am so glad to see people interacting with my posts and putting their own thoughts on top of my own, gives me a new perspective every time.
Although I love Gakuhou (he is my favourite characters for some reason) I wish we got to see more of him. I wish we could have seen his backstory and why he seemed to snap so badly at Ikeda's death. I still think he is well written but I personally hoped to see more of him and bis thought process
You have no idea how much I despise fanon Yoriichi
Ok so, the Demon Slayer movie just came out in my country and of course I had to watch it. Don't get me wrong it was peak but there was one thing that really bothered me and that was Kaigaku.
For someone who plays such an important role in Zenitsu's backstory and is even the reason Zenitsu finally locked in he was extremely underwhelming.
The anime didn't bother building him up as a character, it didn't even bother building up his relationship and conflict with Zenitsu. He just appears in one flashback throughout the whole series, without his face showing, and I am suppose to hate him and remember who he is? That's just bad writing plain and simple. And no, Himejima's flashback doesn't count since that incident had nothing to do with Zenitsu or his story.
His battle with Zenitsu was also a huge letdown. Not only was the battle extremely short, Kaigaku got his ass handed to him so badly that people believe his is a fraud who isn't even on lower moon level. The battle looked cool but it lacked the emotional depth and high stakes the other battles had.
In the end I felt absolutely nothing. I felt nothing when Kaigaku got beheaded and Zenitsu was victorious. I felt nothing when Zenitsu was lamenting the fact that he had to kill his brother and how he could never get along with Kaigaku. The scene with Jigoro was sweet but I didn't really care because again there were no emotional stakes.
Don't get me wrong, I don't expect evey single character in KNY to be three dimensional and have the depth of the Mariana Trench but god dammit, I was expecting something more from Kaigaku, considering his importance in Zenitsu's life, even if he was just a tool to give Zenitsu character development.
I would argue that Douma was also nothing but a tool to give Kanao and Inosuke as well as Shinobu some character development but at least he was interesting and well written. We got his backstory way before he died, we got to see how he affected Shinobu and later on Kanao and Inosuke, we got to see him interacting with his fellow uppermoons and the fight with Kanao and Inosuke gave him more depth and helped us understand him more as a character. We got to see him both in a flashback and during the uppermoon meeting which gave us a small insight into his character and made us excited to see him in the future.
Kaigaku got none of that. He just appeared out of nowhere and we were expected to remember who he was and to hate him even though there was no buildup to his character. If you want me to hate a character and be happy at their defeat then actually bother to write and establish the character before throwing them on my face and killing them off before they could accomplish anything.
