hi! i just wanted to say that you’re my all-time favorite steve writer. you’re so, so, so good!!! i think your perception of him is so beautiful and accurate, it’s honestly insane.

so i was wondering— and only if you’re willing to share about it—what was your writing process like when you first started writing for steve?

as a reader, i think one of the coolest things about fanfiction is when you can read a scene/dialogue and pratically see/hear the character, which happens a lot when i read your work.

and as a beginning writer, i feel like i struggle a lot coming up with steve’s dialogue/thoughts/mannerisms because i’m always afraid of accidentally mischaracterizing him (or making him just another victim of the tumblr-male-character-recipe, y’know?).

so, i always wondered how great, wonderful writers like you started their own writing processes.

i’m sorry if this question is inappropriate or if you already answered this!

i adore u <333 muah muah muah

hi lovely! this is such a sweet, wonderful question—not inappropriate at all! massive ramble incoming:

Yet another writing ask

  1. Which of your fics would you keep the basic plot of but rewrite completely?
  2. Anything that you'd like to write but feel like you're unable to?
  3. How would you describe your writing style?
  4. Do you have any OCs? Do you have a story for them?
  5. What's a tag you never want to use for your works even when it applies?
  6. What's your ratio for rating your works?
  7. Your favourite ao3 tag.
  8. How slow is a slow burn?
  9. Thoughts on cliffhangers.
  10. Top three favourite fic tropes.
  11. Three tropes that are fine but overrated.
  12. If you write in more than one language, what's the difference?
  13. Rate your worldbuilding skills from 1 to 10.
  14. Write and share the first sentence of a new fic. Just that.
  15. What's your favourite plotless fic you have written?
  16. Are one-shots really underrated?
  17. Past or present tense? Why?
  18. First, second, or third person?
  19. Share a snippet from a wip without giving any context for it.
  20. Do you work on a single project or many at the same time? How does that work for you?
  21. Can you accurately predict how long your fics are going to be? If you can, what's your secret?
  22. What is it about watching the same two idiots falling in love over and over again?
  23. Dialogue or description? Why is the other one so hard?
  24. Thoughts on flashbacks/flashforwards.
  25. Is writing the whole thing beforehand better or worse than writing it as you go?
  26. What would you describe as OOC?
  27. Do you agree that one shouldn't start a story with a piece of dialogue?
  28. Any writing advice that works for you and you feel like sharing?
  29. What's the hardest thing about writing?
  30. Describe a fic that almost happened, but then it didn't.
  31. What was the most difficult fic for you to write (but in the end you made it)?
  32. Do you have a word/expression that you always use in your writing?
  33. Give your writing a compliment.
  34. Do you write to improve? Or is that not a concern for you?
  35. Thoughts on writing challenges/contests.
  36. How do you come up with fic titles? What's the one you're most proud of?
  37. Do you research before writing or while you write? Is it fun or boring for you?
  38. "This never happened" fix-it fics or "this happened but" fix-it fics?
  39. Wildest AU scenario you have written?
  40. Write a 9-word fic.

Do you ever read a fic so interesting you want behind the scenes lore, ten pinterest moodboards and one of those fancy .gif edits but none of that exists bc it's a fanfic?

fun fact! most fanfic authors would be thrilled to provide behind the scenes lore! all you have to do is ask about it! they may even have a fic playlist or moodboard

Some of you on this site are so scared of writing fairly conventional anatomy-based sex porn because of the cringe-words and general discomfort with sex. It helps to have had sex, but that's not necessary. After the break, as it is somewhat explicit, here is all you need to do, and it is not a list of euphemisms for penis or vagina or xenoapparatus:

it is honestly amazing how much of writing and editing is just. logistics. like... do i use a name here or a pronoun? if i move this dialogue tag to the middle of this line and break it in half, does the end of the line hit harder that way? what if i move the tag to the front? what if i remove it entirely? ...wait, whose point of view am i in; can i reasonably say this character is appalled, or must i say they look or seem or sound appalled? is this a deliberate action or a step-removed one; is her hand closing on his shoulder, or is she closing her hand on his shoulder? environment environment environment, we need to break all this dialogue up with some narration, the scene is coming untethered. what! are! they doing! with! the rest of their bodies that are not hands! fuck fuck fuck FUCK i forgot we covered this two chapters ago and now i either need to cut this whole chunk or find a reason to reprise the conversation from earlier. name or pronoun? name or pronoun? name or pronoun? move this clause around in this sentence? oh i'll add this phrase-- nope, never mind, past!me added the same phrase two lines down. okay, if i add too much environmental narration it's going to take away from this bit, but not enough and it won't feel grounded. what if i move this to its own line? where the FUCK are their hands?

I love, love, LOVE it when I can tell a fic author has integrated their specialized knowledge in a fic. I was reading a fic that at some point included the character going to visit an art therapist, and it's so clear that the author is an art therapist themself, and the details included are just immaculate and I love it. I've previously read about a character doing fencing for no other reason than the author clearly wanting to write a sport they understood. A character being given a hyperfixation on bugs just so the author can infodump themselves.

I eat it up every time, it brings such a smile to my face

I got dust writer!

It's hard to combine air and earth, and you are the proof that impossible is just a word. You mix the patience behind the creation of long stories, with the lightness of air, and its force. Your prompts are the best, interesting, funny, and creating infinite possibilities and universes in front of them. Your words carry the reader in new and unexplored worlds, you give them wings and the whole sky. You can give a just taste and it's too good to stop. Your readers become your fans, because your writing gets them addicted. Your words can have an aftertaste of sadness sometimes, but mainly you like to show the feelings, like to let them really exist, without apologies. You're the writer that's born with the ability to touch the deepest floor of an abyss and, at the same time, smile while sitting on the clouds. Dust writers are a breathing miracle that make readers reach heights that others can only dream of.

Thanks @mothdruid and @topguncortez for the tags 💕✨

I see your open tag, bby!

Fire Writer

You burn. In the night, under the hot sun, you burn. You shine in the darkest nights, bringing to your readers an immortal fire. No one is able to portray feelings better than you. Emotions burn your characters, making them matches in dark rooms, lighting up everything, and burning from their own hands. Your best is shown in short stories, where the flames of your character’s souls can burn brighter than ever, and become ashes. Your stories hold the most passionate love, soft sighs whispered against a lover’s skin, and the neon lights of a night club. Pain is your second name, and you don’t mind it. Wars, betrayal, yearning, a/b/o and enemy to lovers are your favorite tropes. But when you decide to comfort, the fierce fire that burns in your soul becomes the warm hug of a blanket in a cold day. Established relationships, per-relationship fluff and medical fics are great at showing this softer side of you. Keep burning, and show everyone how hard a fire can burn, even in the coldest of the nights

I got Air Writer!

Exploring the darkness and light in the human soul is a delight, to you. You don't fear writing about MCD, Hanahaki or that suffocating angst. You are a master in flexibility, creating stories that can go from slice of life to mystery. You're the horror story that starts lightly, and the reader just can't stop reading. Before you know it, the air in the room has disappeared and the reader is choking on their tears, while an invisible hand dries them. Your style is simple, and really nice to read, a word takes you to the other, and then the other, and it's 3 in the morning and sleep is clinging on you, but you just can't stop. Your prompts are *chef's kiss*, the absolute perfection. You mix every emotion like colors on a palette, and paint the whole world with the bluest smiles, and the prettiest golden eyes. Your readers can't be other than allured in by you, and once in, they have no escape.

I'm tagging myself in this I'm sorry 🙈💕

And I got Water Writer 😍

Just like water, you carry your readers in a new world, and they just can’t do anything but follow. Your poetic writing allures the readers in with beautiful words, just for them to find themselves on the deepest oceans floors, where you make them taste pain in its sweetest form. Water writers are the gentlest liars, they show the readers a small stream, and no one can see the waterfall at the end. If you were a tag, you would definitely be ‘Everything is Beautiful But Everything Hurts’. Cliffhangers are one of your strong points that, mixed with your incredible versatility, make you a great writer. Your stories have a deep meaning, and never miss to leave traces on your readers hearts. You don’t limit yourself, you like to explore the deepest parts in the human soul, and that’s why readers can sometimes find MCD in your stories. Your endings tend to be sad or open, and your stories have the power to drag your readers with you, from the highest waves of a storm, and to the darkest secrets of the ocean.

Thank you for the tag💕 fits your writing very well, I think - besides the results being very kind - mine does too🥰

Jumping in because I found it so interesting and pretty accurate 😂

Earth Writer:

You have the patience it takes for flowers to grow, and break through the hard mountain floor. You writing is able to show an imagery not really anyone else can give. You gift your readers canvas painted with the most thought out shades anyone could imagine. You are the writer of those long stories that change the reader's life forever. You create whole universes with your words. Paint colorful worlds with words in black and white. Pains whole lives with ink. Your stories can hold the deepest meanings, but the majority of the time, your goal is not to teach anyone anything in particular, rather it's just to tell the story of someone, of how they grew, and faced their problems. Your favorite genres are fantasy, or mystery. You can also really love high school and college au. Your stories show universes never seen before, and building them can take a lot of time, but you don't easily give up. You have a great work ethic and, even if your sturdy foundations fall, you'll build new ones. Tropes that can be found in your fics include established relationships and canon

Oh my! That’s…not what I expected.

MAGMA WRITER

Molten rock that still has to surface. You're the perfect mix of fire and earth, and your story shows it, having the best of both worlds. You're the writer that holds fire on their fingertips and kisses their lovers goodbye in the most painful way. You're able to build long stories that burn on the inside. You break the human soul, touching with infinite grace the right cords. You are an artist of the elaborate pain and heavy angst only a constructed and long story can give. If i could see in your eyes, i would be looking at your soul dancing on an unstable floor, flames all around it, to protect it and to forge it. Your love burns hot and infinite inside of you, and sometimes, when it slips out, you're afraid that it could burn too much. But the right people will know how to love you, and every bright tongue of fire your soul is made of. Your stories are the ones that make the world change.

I got Storm Writer!

Writers of the storm, the rain, and the snow. Angst is your element. You mastered the art of making it hurt, in every way. That quiet hurt of a smile on a crying face. Your words whisper to the lonely ones that they’re not alone. You are able to show your readers a universe where everything’s okay, and even if it hurts it’s okay, because being sad is a feeling that deserves to be felt. Yells against the dark of the night. Screams of rage and hurt, tears running down soft cheeks and white knuckles. You are there, screaming with them. Angry at the unfairness, and fighting it, in the first place it attacks you. In the heart. And you’re the hand, offered to the hopeless. With a delicate smile on your lips, you help people stand up again. The storm writer, the one who knows how it feels, to be screaming in the void, and doesn’t want anyone else to live it too. You are the storm writer, but you’re able to build beautiful reigns of ice and snow, and offer comfort to the ones who seek it.

"You mastered the art of making it hurt, in every way."

...sounds about right 🥲
