I think I’ve reblogged this before but I was thinking about it while I was watching the most recent episodes and I realized that the way that the hivemind converses with carol is SOOO much like AI. The way that it just recites truths and other peoples former thoughts, it’s so devoid of any true humanity or emotion. Because it can’t anymore. All they have is the data of the minds of everyone on earth, which is human-like but they’re not capable of creating anything new anymore.

It also made me think about art and how if everyone shares the same overall consciousness, then art loses all its meaning. You can’t make something personal and original if you no longer have personality and originality. Art is central to the human experience, and now that they’re devoid of that there’s so much novelty in Carol’s work. She’s the last artist. I’m still deliberating if it’s sincere or not, but they did seem genuinely excited that Carol started writing a new book, when there’s no opportunity for new books to be written ever because there’s no need to write information when everyone on the planet automatically knows it as soon as it comes to be, the idea of something NEW and CREATIVE would be so special. They could just be manipulating her into forgetting about her ultimate goal of reversing humanity back to how it was or whatever, but if I was the last person on earth and I knew everything there was to know, I too would be excited about the new instalment of a romantasy series.
