Today's polish was one I wasn't expecting to love as much as I did. It has a muted purple base with a blue to purple shimmer. The base color is so dusty and grey and the shimmer is so bright. The contrast ended up being really pretty on the nails. I was also feeling especially wintery today so I threw a white speckled topper on it. Is it better with or without the topper? I feel like I could go either way. This is Snow Angel from Cirque Colors over Skooma 2.0 from Bee's Knees Lacquer.
Today's manicure was a lot of work, but I think it was worth it...? 🤔😅 This is a magnetic polish and a topper from the same collection. The magnetic polish has an indigo-blue base, cyan shimmer and a pink to gold shifting magnetic pigment. The topper has silver holo star glitters and scattered silver holo glitter. What made it so time consuming is that not only did I have to magnetize the magnetic polish but I also had to magnetize after the topper, the glitter smoothing topcoat and the quick dry topcoat. So altogether 5 coats that needed to be magnetized plus glitter placement for many of the stars. I think it turned out great though. Great enough to do it again? That's a maybe. lol This is Shooting Star Taco over Off the Grid, both from Holo Taco.
Today's polish is a gorgeous wintery green. It has green/blue/teal multichrome base with black holographic microglitter and holographic microflakes. I REALLY loved the base in this polish. I've never seen a green to teal multichrome so seeing this one shift to teal (like in the top left picture) was such a nice surprise. Most of the time though, it just looked like a cool-toned forest green, which I also enjoyed. And you know I loved the sparkle from the holo glitter and flakes. This is Not Yellow Enough, I Think from Garden Path Lacquer.
The Draw Drarry Badly Challenge returns on January 20! The DDBC is the Drarry fandom’s uniquely goofy, chaotically inclusive art fest inviting every fandom member to draw our boys badly. Authors, readers, reccers, and artists are all warmly bidden to make imperfect art, because the fun of making fanart is for everyone! Fandom is better with more people making art of the characters we love, so grab the nearest pen and draw something gloriously jank. Make it fluffy, make it smutty, but above all make it fast and silly! The DDBC was established by @l0vegl0wsinthedark in 2018. With her blessing, I’ve hosted it since. For y’all new to the fandom, hi, I’m Jules! I have MS and my hands don’t work very well. I make fanart by cutting paper blocks with a straightedge paper cutter. The first DDBC was my gateway to becoming a fandom artist, and I’m here to hold the banner for everyone’s right to make art, no matter what. No experience? No fancy art supplies? No dexterity? Excellent. Make it cheap, make it unpolished, make it shaky, but make that art. Especially given the way generative AI is being forced on us, making deliberately lopsided and lumpy art is gorgeously human. Scrawl a pair of stick figures with a ballpoint pen and it will be better art than anything that could ever come out of AI, and you didn’t have to waste any water to do it! The Rules: — Draw a piece of Drarry art. — Draw it as badly as possible. — Post your terrible art and tag anyone you want to do it too! — Tag it "draw drarry badly challenge" so it can be found with the rest of the fest. — Please tag me, @julcheninred, directly in the post so I don’t miss it! It’s my joy to reblog everyone’s wonderful bad art! If you’re already known as a skilled artist here, draw with your non-dominant hand, or in the dark, or with your foot! If this is your first DDBC, please do jump in! Many of the pillars of the fandom have made something exuberantly inelegant for DDBC. Have a look through past years’ submissions under the Draw Drarry Badly Challenge tag. Pick a scene from a fic, or a favorite trope. Break open a box of crayons and have at it! 2026’s DDBC will be from January 20 - February 14, to get some bad Valentine’s art in here. There will be another post to officially begin the party. Meanwhile, who are the newcomers? Who’s been around for a while but has never drawn Drarry badly in a previous year? Tag them in! I look forward to seeing everyone’s Bad Drarry Art! 🙌
Today's polish is another extremely unique and funky magnetic. It's got a dark purple base with pink to yellow shifting metallic flakes and blue magnetic pigment. My first thought when I got this on my nails was that it reminded me of 80s glam rock. Like Twisted Sister would rock the hell out of this polish and I mean that in the best way possible. 🤩 This is Thundersnow from Clionadh Cosmetics.
Today's polish is a thermal! 😱 I got this collection as an Xmas present and was so excited to have a couple of thermals to try cause I hardly ever get them. It's a gray (when cold) to white (when warm) thermal with a blue shimmer. I wish there was a touch more contrast between the cold and warm states, but my hands were super cold when I was taking these pictures so it might have just been me. Other than that I liked this one a lot! This is Breath of Wind from Mooncat.
Esquie my beloved... I hope your day is a balance of Whee-Whoo-Whee-Whoo!
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE WHOOOOOO
unfortunately very true. Doing Better does not always mean never being upset or never being triggered or never having trouble. often Doing Better means experiencing those things and being able to keep going/cope healthily/move on. if you’re in a bubble with no sensation, if you’re numbing yourself out, that’s not what recovering really is. it won’t help you have a happier life it’ll just make your world smaller and smaller until you can’t fit anywhere anymore. gotta learn to make peace with the hard stuff too, that’s the only way to keep going
Today's polish is ✨MAGIC✨. ♥️😍♥️ It has a deep violet base with violet and fuscia holo micro glitter. In the shade, it almost looks like a creme polish. But step in the sun and the sparkle on this one will blind you. 🤩 Holo microglitter is one of my all time favorite finishes, and polishes like this are the reason why. This is Electric Lights On Strings from Kathleen & Co.
Today's polish was the base for my first attempt at a new style of nail art. 😁 My Secret Santa at work got me a nail foil set and after finishing painting my nails, I thought I would give the nail foils a try. Considering I've never done this before, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. The base polish itself is a purple with a red to orange shifting shimmer. On its own it's so soft and ethereal, which I really enjoyed. This is Wanna Woohoo? from LynBDesigns.
Today's polish is WILD. This polish has a blue base with red to orange to yellow aurora shimmer and then within that is a light blue to purple magnetic pigment. I also saw magenta in the magnetic pigment as a well. It felt like every way I turned my nails I saw a different color. And the color combinations were so funky and unique. Yeah, I want more magnetic polishes from this maker. This is Experience from Cadillacquer.
Today's polish is full of flakes! More specifically, it's got a blurple base with green, pink and magenta glass flakes. I was shocked by how smooth and opaque the formula was. I only needed two coats to get full opacity, although I did have to do some strategic flakey placement on a couple spots after the second coat. That's pretty normal with polishes like this though. I love how the finished manicure looked and the sun even made a brief appearance so I could get a picture of this one in direct light. 🌤️ This is Twinkling Vibes from Rogue Lacquer.
Today's polish is a super saturated and gorgeous purple. 💜😍💜 It has a cool-toned violet jelly base with a red to orange shimmer. I found that at extreme angles, the shimmer would turn yellow and green as well. I'm still stuck with super overcast skies, so no direct sun pictures today. I love all of this rain we've been getting, but I wouldn't be mad at some sunny days too. 😂 This is To the Force and Pressure of Time from Lurid Lacquer.
You won't find me being this much of a Pollyanna again so here it goes:
In these difficult times, interaction with the arts, even on the Internet, is a good thing that keeps it alive and reminds us that art is beyond the art market, beyond critics, and independent of the hyperbole of social media. It's an essential but neglected part of our society that many would try to censor or dismiss to irrelevancy. We must continue to create things that have meaning to us and support others that do so as well.
I hope all of you do a painting this year, write a song, read something you learn from or see something that expands your vision . This is part of the way people have shared their sense of the world with others. Communication is a human need. We need to remind ourselves how personal art is and strip it of the idea that it is simply a commodity to be traded. It's not a ticket to stardom or part of a plan for world domination. People drew on cave walls. They wanted to know themselves. You can do it too. There's art and love and not much else. Let's do things and save each other's lives.
Thank you to the first home of this blog, which is Tumblr and all the people that interact. Happy New Year
Today's polish was the best I could do. 😂 I wanted nothing more than to slap on a super sparkly polish to ring in the new year, but I am still stuck with day after day of completely overcast sky and rain. 🌧️ So instead of something super blingy, I went with a polish that gave a new year vibe but would look good in the shade and this is what I landed on. It has a navy base with silver foil flakes. I had a feeling this one would look good with a matte topcoat on it so I put one on this morning (middle picture) and I think I like it matte more than glossy. This is Silent Library from Holo Taco. Happy New Year! 🥳🍾🎊
Today's polish was SO fun! It has a green jelly base with with iridescent flakies that shift from green to yellow to orange. It has the same formula as Dragon Scales with the color of Approachable Asshole. It was such a funky shade, which I absolutely loved. We are HUGE Avatar the Last Airbender fans in our house, so when my kiddo saw this one he had to put it on too. 😁 This is My Cabbages! from Mooncat.

This is SUCH a stunning mani. 😍😍😍 The stamping polish looks like an exact match of Glinda. At first I thought you'd stamped with Glinda! And the two polishes look so beautiful together! I really love this one!
