Hello! After years I rediscovered Phantomland and your art in general. Your art and comic skills even got better, it's really inspiring to see <3 Hope you're doing well!
Aww that's sweet of you to reach out, thank you!!
Happy to hear my stuff has developed... despite everything lol. I'm not super well but hoping to recover eventually
Ough. Good chapter. I don’t know how to say it without rambling but the pacing in phantomland is just sooooooooo good, the setups and payoffs and like? Punctuation? Of the story- it's so good. Love this comic so much! You're art is awesome!
That's sweet!! Thank you so much... rambling is always welcome though! I'm often tempted to ramble about my comic myself but I hold my tongue because I believe the work is supposed to speak for itself. But yeah. Pacing is difficult, I wrestle with it a lot, so I'm happy when readers find it enjoyable
Amber and Jon make me insane, i still remember her crying after saving his life in one of the earliest chapters plus the way she rolled up to the office after finding out he actually took on a trainee after all these years. Such a neat dynamic. This last update was so 🥺
Thank you so much :) Readers got surprisingly emotional about this one, I'm glad haha
Hopefully this isn't too annoying but recently I've been researching about plot structure for comics, and was wondering what do use to plan phantomland? Or if you have a writing tip specifically, this is so hard lol
Btw I'm very glad you are updating the comic, despite hardships. It's very inspiring
Plan? Uhhhh… I only have a pretty general outline in my head, there's a lot of holes that need to be filled in. But my pace is slow enough that I can usually figure them out as I go
Writing is just hard, full stop. This is a basic tip but your theme is the #1 thing you should keep in focus. What is your story ABOUT. What is your character ABOUT. What will they learn on this journey (or will they double down and get stupider?). But don't just pick a theme like "friendship" and then have it be about two pals taking turns affirming each other. Put a challenge to it. Write about a character who's besties with a wanted arsonist. Once you have an interesting hook the rest will be easier to figure out. Good luck!
I’m sorry if this is so random and weird to say but since I recently just discovered you and read through all your stuff like a manic lol. As a fellow comic creator it feels refreshing and reassuring to see someone just post announcements of a new page along with links on their social media’s. Usually the people I follow or see make webcomics not only do they post links but I see them post multiple artworks while posting pages as well. And for someone like me with a busy life I always felt terrible and ashamed that I couldn’t do the same thing they did too. But it’s nice seeing someone else’s media tab be exactly like mine while making small cute doodles whenever they can. But other than that weird confession keep up with the amazing work!!!
Hey thanks, I'm glad you enjoy my stuff!
For me it's not even a time problem, it's an energy problem. I don't even draw every day, and when I draw it's just for a couple hours before I'm too drained to continue. I really hope I can increase the hours once I get better...
My comics will never be popular because I can't work hard enough to achieve that, but that's alright because I despise the current sweatshop culture of webcomics anyway. Fuck webtoon lol. I don't want to read these sloppy comics filled with shitty 3D assets drawn by some overworked kid destroying their body earning poverty wages. It's the same problem with all media, actually. You can't make good stuff by rushing.
The important thing is to enjoy what you're drawing. That's all it boils down to. Keep it up anon, I'm proud of you!
