Okay so this is a big deal

To me, and to a significant subset of Sir Terry's fans (including most of you who've found this by the tags), his writing is serious commentary on the human condition - politics, prejudice, self-control, revenge vs. justice, religion, idealism, faith in people vs. cynicism, and more - dressed up with fantasy settings and a hefty leavening of humor to make it fun to read. And it is WILDLY fun to read, actual laugh-out-loud or at least a snicker averaging about every page.

But there's this common idea among the "important literature" people that fun and funny books are not also worthwhile or important in the same way.

This is a Discworld book being released WITH ACADEMIC COMMENTARY and AS A PENGUIN CLASSIC. That's a HUGE amount of recognition.

no but like why are the prosecutors' muscles like that. how thin and tight are their uniforms??

i'm so intrigued by ryuu's collapsible tophat in that one escapade

i committed to ryuu in a top hat + outtake:

The Secret of Sherlock Holmes play with Jeremy Brett & Edward Hardwicke, 1988/1989

  • audio bootleg on SoundCloud, restored by Alison Carter (Act 1) (Act 2)
  • the play script (x) (x)
  • the program (x)
  • info about cast, crew, tour dates, pictures, etc. on The Arthur Conan Doyle Encyclopedia (x)
  • fan site with lots of links (x)

Finding out that this play existed was one of the best days ever. I can't believe this is a thing that actually happened, I literally think about it daily, what a cool thing. This one is up at the top of my time machine list (the one where I discover time travel and only use it to go see shows and concerts in the past) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just thinking about Jeremy Brett's voice (as Holmes !) booming across a theater that I am sitting in gives me chills.

I know I'm not the first person to post about this play, but if even one Granada Holmes fan sees this post and gets to discover this play, I think that would be pretty neat.

COME LOOK AT THIS!

Well, heck! That's really cool!

‘twist villain’ is always good of course but i’m such a sucker for ‘twist hero’. specifically as in they write a character to be as suspicious and unnerving as possible without really actually doing anything wrong yet but you just KNOW something is wrong but then surprise. they’re fine actually. all the alleged wrongdoings were either lies harmless or taken out of context. it’s even better if the suspicious aspects of their personality don’t go away after the reveal that they’re a good guy. they just act and look and talk like that for fun. they’re just a little silly

"Hey, what do you want for Ch-"

I don't know, as soon as you started the question, I somehow momentarily was struck with such a lack of desire for any material goods that there's now a school of thought in Buddhism who reveres my ADHD riddled brain as a potential speedrun to enlightment.

So from everything I've read, Maximilien Robespierre was likely what we would today call asexual. He was also a lawyer before getting into government.

So you could say he was an Ace Attorney
